I came in for…read moreanti-acids (my husband wasn't feeling good) Shortly after entering, one of the older females (she had grey/white hair) employees makes a beeline to me (ignoring all other customers) and asks in a tone that was condescending and accusingly, "CAN I HELP YOU?" I say, "No. I'm right here trying to choose what I want". Then she goes to the back and gets a much BIGGER (over 6' tall and seriously overweight) male employee to go out and come straight to me and ask the same thing, but ruder "CAN I HELP YOU"? I say to this guy, "NO! I'm right in front of what I'm TRYING to buy". Why am I making a BIG deal about this? It's because of my nationality and because I'm physically brown (possibly because I'm from Hawaii). I'm making a pretty good assumption that these horrible employees thought I was going to steal merchandise. However, the younger, male cashier was very kind and accommodating, even asking if I had a Kingsoopers card so I could get reward points (he was the exact opposite of the other two rude employees). My husband and his family is from the town of Fowler. I have never received this kind of reception before today from anyone in this town and I've been going there sporadically for 17 years.

The clerks have been courteous every time I've been in. However -- in the spring of 2020, the store removed all of its ice cream and other freezer items and did not replace them for several months. They offer Dippin' Dots, prepackaged in six flavors, at prices much higher than cartons of ice cream would be. Update: I was told, and have now verified, as of September 2020, that the store has replaced or repaired the big freezer, so all ice cream and other frozen products are as they were before this past spring. I know that I was not the only person who had given up going in there to look for ice cream, so I hope this review will make others aware that all is now well.

WELL, because it's a little slice of fast paced heaven for me. Everywhere I've been to in town has a slow and old school feel to it. From the parks to the liquor stores, nothing says small town like, well, everything IN the 4 block radius we currently call home. The good folks at the Loaf make me feel like there IS an active and high energy civilization outside these city limits. They gotta red box out front, a good sized convenient store area inside, quick eats you'd find @ a 7-11, and even a subway with an eating area attached. Yee-haww, your dang skippy I like this place! The lighting is bright and the place is cleaner then other places around. Sure it's all junk food and calorie ridden drinks but it gives me sanity. I've just been once and you bet your lucky sand dollar that I'll be here more often. Even though I'm not a fan, I guess a subway sammie is in order. Hey, I might even start to like 'em again! The Loaf... is where it's at. =)

As luck had it, we found some fresh flowers, and was able to pick up a couple of bundles very fresh. The grocery store, was small, with all the name brands, and some off brands, prices were cheap considering they were the only one in town. But nothing around but farms, so I guess the prices had to be controlled. Even had some nice looking fresh fruits and veggies.

Maybe the prices are a little higher than chain stores but during the growing season the produce is local; as in from the fields outside of town to the produce department! Numerous times I have called them and asked them to slice up some roasts for beef jerky and they always have it ready when we come down to visit family. So you can't get some of the things that you can get at larger stores...but you can get whatever you need and want to make great meals from a local source!

Modest Meals After a…read moretrip to Wal-Mart, I was bummed that they didn't have very many health food products. While running additional errands this cozy little store caught our eye. As we passed by this hidden treasure we decided to stop by on our way back from the bank. It's not your typical place to grab food nor is it the cheapest place to get essential ingredients, but I did find what I needed here! They have natural vitamins, gluten free & dairy free products, and even a soft serve area that whips up sugar free treats that's sweetened with fruit. I quickly walked around and found some nutritional yeast (yeast flakes) and saffron that I needed for my vegan recipes. Score! The owner was present and very helpful. I was also impressed to see a good amount of patrons during my short visit here. As I checked out I had a chance to have a quick gab with the owner Jeanne Love. She offered her services since she is an RN & a nutritionist. She was a phone call away, she mentioned. How sweet of her! Sure, this place doesn't have inventory upon inventory and so what if you'll find a variety of goodies pre-packed in zip lock baggies. The ingredients are somewhat hard to find in this area and I'm thankful that I have this place to go to for all my unique needs.
