I asked if this was the shop that had been on North Academy and she made an appalled sound and said, "Penzey's?!!! Absolutely NOT!" I was so taken aback. She acted completely offended I would even consider the comparison. WTF?! I purchased a few items and she later said, "thanks for taking my ribbing earlier." REALLY?! All I wanted to do was check out your store. Not sure what offense I had made, but you may want to think about projecting your issues with competitors on to your customers. I will not be visiting this store again. There are plenty of places to get spices.

I came for cinnamon and was surprised to see so many different varieties! Thankfully they have testers so you can smell the different spices which can help you make a decision. A nice employee named Sandy was very helpful and welcoming. She helped me to join the free spice rewards program and I can't wait for my birthday month to receive my complementary spice! I really like how sustainable this shop is-if you bring in your empty spice jar, they're refill it and give you a small incentive discount! Plus, they have samples of all of their tantalizing jams. What's not to love?!

When we walked in, a couple tables was already taken and there was a few to-go orders too. The place looked clean inside and the staff greeted us nicely and was very courteous. After we ordered, our food came out in like 5 minutes, so the service was very quick. We got the Egg Drop soup which was very tasty, and I loved the big crispy noodles they served with it. Then we had the Shanghai pork, shrimp, and veggie Spring rolls .. so crispy on the outside and flavorful inside, pretty much a perfect combo. Then the Kung pao shrimp - was savory with huge crispy shrimps and veggies cooked just right. Then Thai basil chicken stir fry - was slightly sweet and mildly spiced for my liking but still balanced well with lots of veggies and chicken, and it tasted even better with the chili oil, just a burst of flavors. The pricing felt more like a big city like KC from main dishes ranging from $14 and upwards but the portion sizes really made up for it, so honestly I had nothing to complain about. To conclude, Food was prepared fresh and was excellent. We left with our stomachs full and then drove straight to Salina. A complete 10/10 place and highly recommended!

Modest Meals After a…read moretrip to Wal-Mart, I was bummed that they didn't have very many health food products. While running additional errands this cozy little store caught our eye. As we passed by this hidden treasure we decided to stop by on our way back from the bank. It's not your typical place to grab food nor is it the cheapest place to get essential ingredients, but I did find what I needed here! They have natural vitamins, gluten free & dairy free products, and even a soft serve area that whips up sugar free treats that's sweetened with fruit. I quickly walked around and found some nutritional yeast (yeast flakes) and saffron that I needed for my vegan recipes. Score! The owner was present and very helpful. I was also impressed to see a good amount of patrons during my short visit here. As I checked out I had a chance to have a quick gab with the owner Jeanne Love. She offered her services since she is an RN & a nutritionist. She was a phone call away, she mentioned. How sweet of her! Sure, this place doesn't have inventory upon inventory and so what if you'll find a variety of goodies pre-packed in zip lock baggies. The ingredients are somewhat hard to find in this area and I'm thankful that I have this place to go to for all my unique needs.

I absolutely love how we break up into groups, each group is responsible for cooking one dish, and at the end we all share the dishes and eat together. Courtney and David are absolute gems and have a wealth of knowledge they happily share with you. I can't recommend enough. The only thing is that the classes sell out so quick! There are a lot of repeat goers which is a great sign of course, but can be a bit intense when you want to get into a class. You can be put on a wait list and they send out emails when they have cancellations which is pretty awesome. Side note...the tamale class was my absolute favorite and a must do.

So far, I have learned to make macarons, learned about bivalves (mussels and clams), make vichychoisse in French Bistro class, and last night got the low-down on knife sharpening. Check their website for schedules, or just come into the shop! They have local honey, Sawatch butter and cheese, and a fabulous spice shop. Dave males and sells black garlic (check it out) and there's always something new and interesting for sale. It's a great place to find gifts for people who already have everything! They even have gift cards for their classes! #thankyouthursday2021
