This is the worst Safeway ever. It's due completely to customer service issues.
Two examples: I waited in line (i was third); the woman being checked out was having issues. They brought over a manager and we all waited nearly ten minutes. The other 2 lanes that were open (2 lanes open at 7pm on a FRIDAY night!) had about five people in them, so it was best to remain where i was. The manager couldn't figure out the problem, so he had a cashier take the woman to a new lane and checked her out there. He then told the rest of us we'd have to get in another lane--all of which now had about 15 people in them. We were all naturally upset, but this manager just ignored us, and continued closing the lane down. Ridiculous.
Second example: Saturday morning (another very busy grocery time) and I'm in one of two lanes with about 12 people in them. Next to our lane are two Express Lanes with a cashier in each, just standing there staring off into space. I leaned over and suggested perhaps they open to help with the crazy crowd lines in the only two lanes open. "No, this if for 10 items or less only". I said "So it's better to have two people stand there with their thumb up their butt rather than help customers? Where's the manager?" He said "I'm an assistant manager". Well that explains it, the problems are at the top working their way down.
So glad that Waremart will be opening soon. With no other options in town, Safeway has been the laziest place around...and they don't care because there is nowhere else to shop. That will soon be changing and they will wish they had improved when they had the chance. When people prefer to shop at 7-11 instead of stepping foot in your grocery store, that suggests huge problems. And these problems are customer service oriented--the easiest of all problems to fix. Adios Safeway, you suck. read more
