I am loving this fredmeyer! Fredmeyers is new for me, I had only been in one a couple times about 15 years ago. So this one really set a good example for me, and my babies! Their prices have been surprisingly good and today my 2 year old had a blast! The staff was so nice and didn't mind her running around. She was late to walking, being a preemie and all so any chance to run free is nice haha they loved her and some one from the bakery department came and told us she can have a free cookie!!!! Which she was so happy about and said it was yummy. And another staff member came up just to say hi to the babies which was really nice. Everyone was friendly but not in a fake way or overbearing way. The pharmacy was amazing too. I asked someone if they could help with some questions and the woman had 1% knowledge & spent most of the time standing there saying nothing. Whenever I have a difficult time finding items, I can usually find an associate and they are always so helpful in locating what I want and then guiding me to where it is. One knock I have is having to purchase Covid kits in the pharmacy. It would be nice to buy them when I check out everything else. A separate wait in the pharmacy line can be lengthy. read more

I came here mainly to get my COVID booster shot, but while I was waiting for my appointment, I did a little shopping. Speaking of COVID, I noticed a good 50/50 split between maskless and maskers... so, if you are trying to be safe, this might not be the store for you. I know this has nothing to do with the store or how it operates, but thought I'd add it for those of us taking the pandemic seriously. This place looked kinda run down inside. I noticed several ceiling tiles were askew in their slots, and the floors seemed like they hadn't been mopped in a while. Overall, the place seemed disorganized. When I was passing through the clothing section, I noticed several piles of clothes that were just flung over the middle of a rack. Maybe they're understaffed? Not sure why the store was in such bad shape, but it definitely made me not want to stay there for very long. The pharmacy staff was excellent, however! They saw me standing aside from the usual prescription line, and immediately asked me if I was there for a vaccine. I got checked in, and got my shot in about 5 minutes! Quick and easy! I made the appointment online, and they still took me even though I had forgotten my vaccine card. Super professional, and fast! If I lived in Salem, maybe I'd shop here... maybe not. I don't know what the other grocery stores are like. However, since I live in Portland, its very unlikely that I'll be back to this location. It might be one of the most run down Fred Meyers that I've ever seen. read more

Fred Meyer is practically an Oregon institution. Most locations, as well as this one, are typically quite good with just about everything. To call it a department store would be wrong and to suggest that it's a supermarket doesn't quite nail it down either. Could it just simply be a super store? It's really all of the above. I've come here for all sorts of random reasons: groceries for the week, random gift for a friend, furniture shopping with others, flowers for the sick, a quick snack at the deli, food catering, and even to kill some time while waiting to meet folks in the area. The one thing that I find that makes Fred Meyer stand out amongst all local stores is the fantastic customer service. Countless times I've had a random employee help me in a situation where they clearly went out of their way for my happiness. I'm not the only one -- I've heard of many stories from people who have become loyalists to Fred Meyer for this alone. Is it the cheapest place to find certain things? Not in the least bit. Is it a little antiquated looking? Absolutely. Can the parking during the afternoons be a bit of a disaster? Sure. However in the end, Fred Meyer has won over a lot of folks by simply being nice, professional, and helpful. In a world where service has ceased to exist, it's great to know Fred Meyer still makes that a priority. read more

Yeah, i don't think I'll be back. It was a busy Saturday and of course, like most retail stores (and I don't give a flying fuck about the COVID excuse) they didn't have enough cashiers. After inquiring, we were also told that this location stopped selling Sports Cards. Ok, well that's lame. We purchased a couple of Boar's Head sandwiches because, although spendy, they are typically "safe". Got everything else we needed and got out. I was surprised to find some items priced reasonably, so I picked up more than I had on my list. I scanned my Rewards card, and proceeded to checkout. BUT the prices at the register were much different, twice the advertised (tags in store) price. So, I left the store and found my items at Trader Joe's, where you get the price on the tag, you know what you'll pay and there is lways a friendly checker open to greet you and get you on your way. I have childhood memories of Fred Meyer, My Tee Fine products, a well-stocked produce and meat department, fresh and best in town. Kroger is the largest supermarket by revenue, operating in 35 states, I am afraid to say that our food supply is controlled by greed. Never going back. read more

With regard to the pharmacy only. The pharmacists themselves are first-rate, and have been very proactive about warning me about side effects and allergies. With regard to what is company policy or this particular office culture, the pharmacy has NOT been proactive about advising me of cheaper generics nor, in one case, of a med available over the counter at about half of what the pharmacy was charging me. As I have been with them 20 years, I figure this might have cost me in four figures, and I am feeling betrayed. There's constant turnover in the counter staff. Maybe three and a half stars, or three, for long-term civility in this area. One at the moment has me about to write a letter to management. I came to the Commercial St location because although I live near Market St, like all poor district stores it lacks an ample supply of organic food and fresh veggies, as well as being overly noisy. Today, in Commercial St I was faced with hostile employees who treated me like I was in the way. I wanted to get organic almond milk n non dairy cheese, only to be blocked by an employee stocking shelves who only moved when there were 2 of us waiting. I put coffee in the grinder n turned my back when ANOTHER employee stopped the grinder to use that area as her work space. Fred Meyer is the WORSTgrocery store I have ever been to for customer service. I don't care if I have to spend an extra $50, I will go to Safeway on Center St and Natural Grocers in Commercial, where the employees value customers and actually help you find the products you want. read more

I so so so love this store but the reason for 1 Star is due to the constant pricing errors. I will see a sticker price for $2.99 but the register rings it up at $3.99 for example. We went & bought halloween items at 20-40% and the register didn't take off any discounts. I took the receipt to the customer service desk & the pricing errors were fixed with a $45.00 credit back to my card. This is happened numerous times. I have brought this to attention to the 800#. They discriminate me from the moment I walked through the doors. Security as usual stands by the door, and I notice he begins to follow me and my boyfriend. We only wanted to see if there was any new hot wheels since we collect them. However we notice as we are looking at the hot wheels that they sent a worker to keep an eye on us the whole time. They didn't even try to hide it, I grabbed some flashcards that I needed for school. When we headed to go checkout at self checkout, an old lady approached us and notice we got a discount for the flashcards, and she asked if we were members or hard a Fred meter card. We said no and she attempted to try to take off the discount and said we shouldn't be having that. Of course we didn't let her and inserted the card to pay before she tried to take off the items. We walked out and the security followed us basically to our car. We felt discriminated and it's not the first time it happens in that store where we get followed. read more

I asked my wife to come in and bring me a diaper as she was follow by the cashier Anna and told do not go into the female's restroom never again to do that and next time ask another lady to bring me the diapers after she. After she left, Anna came in to the handicap stall where I was changing my son to investigate the situation. I feel this was extremely inappropriate humiliating discriminatory and I would like to escalate it further . I went to the manager who just apologized and that's all. I am consulting my attorney as of now. I have reached out to your Kroger.com and still no response I consulted my attorney who is going to raise his further. I would like Anna to be reprimanded, if not terminated and receive special training as well as compensated for the humiliation Inappropriate and discriminatory humiliation that she caused. Everything from auto parts to biscuits, jewelry to fishing poles, clothing to plants, or televisions to prescription drugs. (And much more) I have found this location in particular very well organized, well stocked and clean. The staff helpful, friendly and professional. I wish there were a Fred Meyer in my area. I would give this store a minus grade if that were possible! The last time I got sandwiches from deli case they had hair in them, and not just one single strand but 4 hairs. Today I shopped and had a very chatty cashier. So much so that all my grapes and strawberries are missing. Not sure what is going on at the East Salem location. Every time they do a remodel, all of the departments seem smaller and have fewer items. Hardware, auto, and garden departments barely exist anymore. So where is all that space going to? The food section doesn't seem any larger. They have nice meat, deli, and bakery sections. What really bugs me are those idiotic commercials with the cartoon characters. None of them are wearing masks. If they are supposed to represent real shoppers, they should give the impression that masks are mandatory. I know, I know, get off my lawn!! read more

Not enough cashiers, and the ones they have are slow as turtles. If they took half the cashiers and made them baggers that would help. Or if we as customers would help with the bagging, that would help. No other Kroger chain is without baggers. read more

I typically preface my review with I'm not a foodie, but a customer service snob but this is not about food, it's about Fred Meyer, a long time department store known in Oregon. If 0 stars were an option, I would give them. Indeed, in all my years, it's a rare moment to have had such a poor customer service experience. This tops the bottom, and I dealt with the garbage company. I was given incorrect information by three people. Indeed, the information I was given was so bad I actually lost $43 because of it. And I don't mean "I didn't ask the right questions and thus got screwed", I mean I asked the right questions, was told incorrect and false information and thus got screwed. And when the Customer Service people acknowledged this, they STILL could not help me. So let me recap, I was given incorrect information, I asked a different person who also gave me incorrect information. After two trips and a third person, I was still not given correct information. One might think this was an attempt to defraud me, but the lack of will (lazy) makes me feel this was ineptitude. I expect to sometimes ask questions that Customer Service people don't know. I read all the signs, I read all the documentation and I come to the web to research. When i ask a question, it's not going to be an easy response. Recall, I expect HIGH customer service, and sometimes that means asking more than people are capable of doing. What I don't expect is being given the wrong information repeatedly. I would rather hear, "I don't know, let's find out" or "let me ask someone who might know the answer to that" long before being told with (unenthusiastic) confidence wrong information, thrice. So, this is chalked up to the worst experience I have had in years. Congratulations Fred Myers for sucking so bad. We'll never go there, or any Kroger/Meyers again. read more

Pharmacy experience: I'm on a road trip, how long to get my prescription for my Ill wife? ' twenty minutes" Next visit to the counter, I'm told another twenty minutes . Next visit " ten more minutes, sorry" Next visit "what was your name again? "Oh yeah ten more minutes" Why not just say an hour and a half up front??? Now I'm eAting lunch in their shitty deli and wait twenty minutes to get someone to stop carving some lunch meat.... I get a medium drink, there's no ice in the machine and " non available". None available?? Try your giant freezer of ice!!!!Nothing worse than a warm soda. I go back to get my prescription and I'm told with a liquid smile, " what is your name again? almost done!" I'm a great fan of choices, options, variety -- and convenience. Those would be the 4 stars. The lost star is for highest quality -- and while there are some examples of really high quality stuff on the aisles here -- there are also a lot of places where real quality has been omitted in favor of bargain-basement offerings. Which is fine -- I understand that they are selling to all budgets and tastes. But it means they really aren't "one stop shopping" -- at least not for me. I have to hit at least 3 stores every time I really go out to re-stock the pantry -- plus an online trip to Amazon, and another to the Cabot Creamery in Vermont. But this Fred Meyer is bigger than any I've been in (wear your walking shoes) -- so it's not shelf space that limits their stock. It's just imagination and store policy. What we got there was fresh (bananas just one day from ripe, and no serious bruises!); the stock appears to be rotated and kept in good condition (fresh, unbroken eggs with a date 4 weeks away! and our favorite Organic Valley dairy products with 3-4 weeks on their dates as well!). Frozen foods were not freezer burned or previously thawed and tuned to ice crystals (yummy choices of Graeter's Ice Creams were/are rich and creamy as the day they were born!) The floors were clean, and the fresh food and meat departments were full of good looking choices. The place was free of screaming toddlers and long lines -- which is always a plus. So no major complaints. That's enough to make this a solid 4-star (yay! I'm a fan) -- and one of the main markets we will visit whenever we're in Salem on other business. read more

Oh Fred Meyer, you terrible, wonderful place. My husband is obsessed with this store. This is the first place he goes to if he needs groceries, tools, furniture, clothes, etc. I like a little variety in my shopping, but he would prefer to get everything done at this place- one stop shopping for sure! Bought a very good quality Schwinn bike from Fred's a few months ago. The manager gave us a discount as we mentioned that we had seen some scratches on the bike. The guy gave us 20% off of everything we bought that day. The natural section is pretty decent, but I wouldn't mind a few more choices. I mostly stick around the organic area, as they have the best prices in town. But more selections in terms of natural foods would be nice. The staff are always friendly and helpful too, which is a plus. I also suggest the Starbucks there, those baristas are always smiling. read more

Best store ever. I love how the managers say hello and how are you and pay attention to you. I love how most of the employees are really nice and helpful. I love the Starbucks manager and I see her for coffee nearly every morning. I love the fresh produce selection, the meat...everything! The only bad thing? The deli wenches. I don't know how hard the deli is on a persons soul, but by the way these girls act, it must be hell. They are so rude and impolite. I just called the main line and the pharmacy did not even answer their phone. So, I called customer service, they transferred me to the pharmacy. And the lady on the phone is very rude. I closed my eyes on everything and gave her all the information regardless. Then she said even though she has all my information if she doesn't have the medication names she is not going to help me. While I was giving her my medication names, she put me on hold and then hand up on me. read more

Went to the fuel stop today, towing my trailer. There were maybe 2 other cars there- none for diesel. The attendant told me I had to turn around, even though I was lined up with the pump on the correct side of the vehicle. If it had been busy, that's one thing but it wasn't. And the kid wasn't real nice either. I've also purchased fuel there, at that pump, pointed that direction in the past. So I did turn around- and left for another fuel station that had a lower price anyway. Better square your business away Fred Meyer or you'll lose a frequent customer forever. read more

This is for the pharmacy only... Initally we were told only 1/2 hr-wow, that was great. But when we came back, that 1/2hr turned into an hour and now an hour and a half. This is ridiculous-I had prescription cough syrup and medihaler....the pharmacy technican got testy and said we are short staffed and only have 1 pharmacist. Ok, whatever, but (1) my prescription was not complicated-nothing hardcore (2) why the hell weren't they just upfront initially-there's a big difference between 1/2 hr and 1.5hr This is why I hate going to drs and going to the pharmacy. read more
