The bakery had round cakes on sale but only had flavors I didn't want so we asked if we could order one for the next day. I had decided to just buy one for my sons birthday instead of making one (he's 23 so don't really make a fuss over it anymore) and was surprised that getting him a cake ordered at the last minute would work. I didn't give them much direction to go with except flavors and what to write. Since it was last minute I didn't want to push it. Long story short she did a wonderful job of creating a simple birthday cake for my son. A wonderful blue ombré look was on the the side and a really nice glittery look on top. Above and beyond my expectations, again I didn't really give her much to go on. I wish I would've took a pic first but son has already tucked in and loved it. This is my most frequented Fred Meyer because it's close to home. As much as I love their selection of produce, breads and deli, I cannot get over how slow and ridiculous their check out staff is. Pretty much every single time I have gone I am stuck waiting AT LEAST TEN minutes. There are maybe 3 checkers that I am SUPER grateful to get if they are working. They are fast and efficient and move their line well. But the rest just space out and almost over talk too much to their customers and the line just grows and grows. If you have little kids with you who want to touch EVERYTHING at the checkout, go somewhere else! Sucks to have to discipline Johnny for getting antsy when you're standing in line for 20 mins waiting on the slow poke cashier to get you out of there. I want to love my store but it seems every time I regret going there. They have a family friendly line. What does that mean exactly? That they will tolerate my kiddos? Not quite sure. They should have at least 2 quick check out stands for people with 10 to 15 items or less! More qualified (fast and focused) checkers and less push for self checkout. I mean, where's the customer service in that? You're spending your money in their store, but you have to ring yourself up, AND bag your own crap! And then if you are going to even think about checking your self out with a cart full of crap and two little kids, forget about having produce! That will likely need store assistance to get you checked out any way! The one time I DID try to check myself out their system glitched and I got stuck having to wait for someone. None of the employees nearby so much as glanced up in my direction. Fred Meyer needs to get an overhaul on getting in and getting OUT! read more

Check the expiration dates of food you buy at the South Salem Fred Meyers. Last week we bought a frozen dinner where the expiration date was 6 months ago! The dinner tasted horrible and then we saw the expiration date was November 2019. I admit we were careless in not checking the date when we bought it, but we thought Fred Meyers was a legit, reliable business. We took the rotten food back and Fred Meyers acted like they were doing us a favor by giving us a refund. If one of us gets sick they will hear from a lawyer next. read more

This is a really nice little store well it's not quite little garden department does a nice job clothing department it's okay. I've never used a pharmacy but the rest of the store doesn't nice job employees are quite friendly. I've had some fairly rotten experiences on my last few outings to the South Commercial Fred Meyer. It wasn't limited to one department either, I'm seeing the same trend in multiple areas of the store. When I attempted to purchase a recliner, the time to locate a store associate for assistance was approx 10-20 min. Some simple maintenance to my wristwatch took Fred Meyer Jewelers over a week. When I tried to use the drive-thru pharmacy, I was in line for 25 minutes. While it may seem convenient to have everything under one roof, I believe you'll find both cheaper and quicker options elsewhere. read more

I admit. It is nice having a one stop store at Madrona and Commerical. On the other hand, plan on spending an extra 5-10 min wandering around trying to find things. The layout of this FM makes no sense, and the employees, who seem to be enthusiastic only about avoiding customers at all costs, are no help. I've been going here since I got a job in south Salem about 6 months ago, and I can't remember EVER being greeted or asked if I needed help. Lots of stuff. Abysmal customer service. read more

Fred Meyers is my favorite place to shop because its a one stop shop. We loving coming here early in the morning to beat the normal rush hour. They have a great selection of Steaks and if your not sure how to cook it just ask the butcher. read more

I really like having a store where I can get much of what I need, and Fred Meyer fits that description very well. Prices are usually average, but the specials can be good. They have a decent selection of natural/organic products, and the deli section is nice. Surprisingly (to me at least), they have really good sales on CD/DVD media and other electronics/games. read more

Good selection of "natural" products... I like the fact that I can get a number of random things in one store. They have a little of everything here.. Clothing is good quality as well as home products. The prices are a little higher than you'd find somewhere else, but if you watch ads and use their coupons you can get pretty good deals. read more

Wide selection of products. Store is easier to navigate the more times you go. Not enough checkers, especially earlier in the day. Customer service line is always a joke (long). Produce is good. The service at the deli used to be REAL BAD, but lately its gotten better. The Starbucks inside has the best staff in town, always friendly. read more

They are a very busy pharmacy so at times there may be a line. I always receive top notch service from the entire staff. I am on the automated refill system and never run short of any medication. If there is ever any problems the staff will go out of their way to make things right. Everyone is friendly and professional. Never had any mistakes with the filling of orders. read more

when i went up to order my drink the one taking my order was really mean right away and her attitude was showing right away, i understand these are hard times but we're all going through it but some niceness would make anybodies day and i didn't get that here. my drink ended up being wrong and when i told the one making my drink her and the one that took my order were arguing with me about the drink that i ordered. i've gotten the drink that i ordered many times and i know when its not made wrong so i was just simply saying that they made it wrong but they were just arguing with me. hope they find better baristas at this location. read more

For a large company grocery & department store, this is the boiler-plate example. Most prices for food, produce and meat are usually better than most places in the area. The parking lot can be over-crowded and complicated to navigate on the weekend, as is leaving the parking lot back onto Commercial St. The recycling area is usually well kept and running smoothly. They do have a hopper can recycler for mass dumping of cans, which I find to be a real timer saver. The reason I go back week after week to this location is the Wine department. This is the best selection discount wine department within 25 miles, bar none. The wine steward recommended wines have always been very good quality-to-price wines usually never above $10-12. Best place to stock up on local (Willamette Valley) wines. Like many supermarkets, they have a buy 6 (any) bottles, get 10% off offer all the time. Also, if they don't have something you are interested in (especially local area wines) they can most likely get it for you, and you can get 10% for 6 bottles as well for custom orders. read more

Fred Meyer is a convenient place to shop for clothes, food, medicine, and much more. Although customer service isn't always that great, it is a store where you can find pretty much anything all in one spot. But at the same time, most things are a bit highly priced. read more

Can't think of another store that has such a wide variety of items. It's also especially nice to have this store so convenient to the downtown residential area. On Friday, December 7th, I had gone to the new gas station at this location. While my window was rolled down, a female gas attendant had asked me if I was being helped. In the middle of answering her, she ignored me and walked away. Not nearly a full minute later, I believe it was a manager or a PIC (person in charge) had hollered at me, interrupting my conversation with his coworker. When I hadn't answered, because I was talking to someone else, he raised his voice even more and I had told him I was being helped. As I waited, there was a group of 3 or 4 attendants standing around in a circle talking poorly of their customers. Each time a car pulled up, they would groan and complain about having to help customers. They laughed and insulted customers while talking about a certain lady that comes through the gas station they "hate" helping because she's older. I found this appalling that ALL of the workers were talking this way as if they had no self control of their actions and thoughts. I pulled forward to get my car to a pump, and the attendant did NOT wait for my car to even stop moving before he put the nozzle in my tank. My car was still running when I pulled up. (My girlfriend filled both our cars, her's first, then mine right after in order to use our 20 points off on each car, so we had to use the same pump, that's also why my gas cap was off and ready to fill) The pump shut off and the attendant helping me had hit on my back window with his hand, instead of walking to my driver window to ask if my tank was full. He wasn't holding the pump with his hands to begin with, so it wasn't like he couldn't walk over and be respectful and talk to me where I could hear him. I was really confused as to why he hit my window repeatedly, so I didn't say anything. Then he hit my window harder, and yelled at me and used a thumbs up and thumbs down signal, asking if my tank was full or not. I nodded saying yes. And left extremely unhappy. I was there not even a full 10 minutes and hated every second of it. Even though there are a handful of workers, they stand around talking inappropriately. At one point, a guy finally realized someone had been waiting for a while and apologized for "the wait". But I noticed them just hanging out and could hear their conversations. I honestly don't want to go here anymore, due to being talked about when I leave. Every time I go, I get gas dripped down the side of my car, disrespected and they hit my back windows for my attention when my driver's window is open! I LOVE THE DELI!!!!! I live out of state & was planing a party to be hosted Albany, OR. Online, the deli trays look amazing in the brochure, but when I called the 1-877 number [btw, the Call Center was HUGELY non-helpful & a total waste of time] the Albany store was unable to create 4 of the 6 trays I wanted. I then called the South Salem store & not only were they able to make the trays, they made a couple of adjustments for me & they were BEAUTIFUL!!! In fact, several of our guests were surprised when we told them where we got the food from! The trays were very affordable and SO tasty!!! The Manager On Duty that day was very helpful & friendly as she brought me the trays & rung me up. Additionally, the lady who took my order was extremely bubbly & friendly...!!! Ordering over the phone with photos up on the web can be a scary experience & it was such a relief when I saw the trays look EXACTLY as I had expected! Thank you S. Salem Freddy's!!! read more
