This location offered a wide variety of food options, including ready-made meals, hot foods, deli selections, and more, making it a convenient stop for quick bites or grocery shopping. What stood out most was the handcrafted sushi selection from Zenshi. There was an impressive variety of rolls to choose from, including California Rolls, Spicy California Rolls, Crunchy Rolls, Rainbow Rolls, Crunchy Shrimp Tempura Rolls, and Seaside Combos. They also offered additional items like Summer Rolls, Big Wave Poke Bowls, Spam Norimaki, and Calamari Salad, which added to the overall selection. I decided to try two Rainbow Rolls. The quality of the sushi was decent; not bad, but not particularly outstanding either. The taste was tolerable enough, especially considering the fairly reasonable price point. This store needs some help. Shopping here on a Monday around 2:00. Went to bakery, most of shelves were empty. Asked employee if they had anything else in back, she said yes, but never came back out with anything else. I could see racks of baked goods in the back, but maybe didn't have them ready to bring to floor? I gave up & left. Then the checkout line, self checkout was backed up at least 10 people deep. And regular checkout, one line was another 10 people deep all the way to back of store. Finally another checker opened up a second lane. Where was the store manager? Was able to get most of what I needed, except muffins & mango which I couldn't find. But it took longer to checkout then it did to shop. If you go, put someone in line waiting while you grab a few things if you will be there forever. read more

This store is close to our condo so we could walk there. We wanted to get some staples for our condo. It was clean and well stocked. Lots of chickens to dodge in the parking lot. Prices were a little higher than at home but it is Kauai. When looking for some fresh fish we couldn't find any Ono or Mahi Mahi but there was a large selection of Poke. We also looked for some fresh pineapple and mango but couldn't find any. Surprised since we were in Hawaii. They had a good selection of wines and spirits. read more

Rating feels about right. It's a Safeway lol. Does have local Hawaiian items. They were out of the banana apples completely which was the main reason I stopped. They had Rosalia ice cream for $14.99 for half a gallon but didn't have my favorite flavor of Aloha Cherry Truffle. Store was tidy and easy to get in and out. Parking lot was maddness and almost was hit multiple times by people driving insanely. Used self check out smoothly. read more

I actually think Safeway has the best poke in Kauai all things considered. Wide selection, fresh, good authentic flavors. $9/lb. Given that there's now only one Foodland on Kauai there's not a lot of competition. Times market is decent but selection is smaller and its $14/lb. And many mom and pop shops but they run out quickly and usually $20+/lb. Lihue Costco disappointingly only has the usual prepackaged poke trays you can get on the mainland and at the same price. read more

The delivery service is currently horrible. We have ordered flash delivery twice this month and waited hours past the promised time. We have been trying to get assistance on our current delivery for 2 hours. Everyone we speak to says they can't do anything, and our order was abandoned. I cannot recommend this store. read more

Cashiers don't know store policies, which gets super frustrating. Last month, I got $200 cash back and she gave me two $100 bills. Without moving, I instantly told her I needed one broken into $20s and she said they are no longer allowed to break big bills because of issues with counterfeits. I pointed out that she had literally just handed it to me. She still refused and sent me to wait for someone to bother showing up at the customer service desk. He did eventually break it for me but kept reiterating that they can't do it anymore, even though I explained multiple times that she had just handed it to me. If that is their policy, they need to ask before giving someone hundreds. This month, the cashier thought they could only give up to $100 in cash back, even though I was previously told $300 and obviously got $200 last month. There have been other examples, these were just the final two. It happens often enough that it has to be a training or communication problem, not just the cashiers. read more

I came to this store every day for a week as I was staying nearby. It had everything I needed for making meals. Lots of convenient options, including prepared fried chicken and sides on the even when I was too lazy. During other evenings, they had oven ready meals that can be warmed up in your condo. Ok I'll admit that when chilling in Paradise going to the grocery store isn't my favorite activity. It's shocking when you see the 40 and fifty percent price differences over the mainland. Everyone hears about how expensive Hawaii is, and it makes sense given that everything literally needs to be flown or shipped in since it's an island. We popped into this grocery store on our first day to grab snacks for hiking and our room, and it was really an eye-opener to see the "regular" grocery prices here - think $4/lb for regular navel oranges, $8 as a sale price for hummus, etc. Wish I'd thought to check meat and dairy prices, but we were just there for snacks and lunch type items. We didn't check any bags, so buying reef-safe sunblock was a must, and we found a good selection here ($12/bottle). Pro tip: check the prepared foods area for half-off stickers, especially if you visit in the morning. read more

They need to hire more checkers and quit making customers essentially be employees without giving us a discount. Also, I bought a kegerator and have not had a keg in it for over 3 years because the lady I have to order through is so incompetent that we would go in, literally spend 20 minutes helping her figure everything out and in the end, she would not submit the order. My husband bought me pink roses and when taking them out of the plastic wrap to place them into a vase-a couple of the roses just fell apart. Not sure if the decorating team is inexperienced or what, but this is what I picked up, w-t-f. We found this Safeway just a few minutes from our condo so it is super-convenient for us. Safeway seems to be the main grocery chain on the islands so this one is pretty similar to the others. It's a full service grocery store--prescriptions, deli, liquor, fresh fish and meat over the counter, plus all the other departments you would expect. The store is clean and well-kept. Isles are easy to navigate. Private parking lot. Prices are high by mainland standards but normal for Hawaii. It really helps to have a Safeway card. Fruit and vegetables are expensive. You will find several oddities. Bananas are $1.19 a pound, imported from Mexico. Why are bananas imported? Almost all the eggs are imported from the mainland, yet, everywhere you go you see chickens running loose outside. So, Kauai or Hawaii does not have any chicken farms? My one significant criticism is the cashiers are not very friendly. They seem not to like their job or customers, which is an attitude you don't find too frequently on the islands. read more

I was sort of surprised by the Safeway. Grocery stores in Hawaii are notorious for being terrible. They usually have extremely high prices and very limited selection (Maybe it's just Foodland that does that). This one is 24/7 since the Foodland went out of business but still they try really hard. That's somewhat surprising because the staff is unionized so you wouldn't expect that they would be very helpful. i've been there on a daily basis for the last week and I have been satisfied each time. One small issue I guess is that literally every morning there is a line about five customers deep because the self-service is not opened. read more
