An ABC store is always a must when visiting Hawaii! They have so many things from souvenirs, to Hawaiian coffee or rum, and all the essentials you may have forgotten while packing. I came here a few times and the store manager David was so friendly. This manager is a complete liar and an embarrassment to this establishment. Sharlene swore that she accepts refund policies on snorkeling gear which was the whole reason why we bought these items.(the Mexican woman in the burgandy polo is the manager) is having her workers lie, promising customers that there is a refund policy when in fact there is not. The gear that we got was defective and was not usable and when we came back to return the items the next day with the reciept she said that we aren't allowed to return those items??? read more

Surprisingly, one of the few ABC Store locations on Kauai! Parking is limited, but the inside is just as big and well stocked as any other location! I have lived on Kauai for over 12 years, and I love the genuine warmth and friendliness that so many people living on this island absolutely proves that there is so much Aloha Spirit...that it's as if everyone you meet has been a dear friend for years. I have to say that if you want to meet some people who absolutely embody the Aloha Spirit...go to the ABC Store #58 (I had to look this up to make sure I had the correct store). The first time I went into this ABC Store, the cashier Ana, had the biggest most beautiful smile, and warmly welcomed me, was so genuinely joyful that she beamed with radiance...and I ain't kidding!! I'm physically disabled and have difficulty walking, and every time I go into that ABC store Ana is always beaming with Aloha Spirit...she is the ultimate embodiment of joy! You might think, well that's her job...but nope...that's all her! She even introduced me to the stores "HI-Chew expert" and he told me the secret to making the ultimate HI-Chew rainbow of flavors rope...and that was more impressive than I can even explain...and I'm not giving that secret away...you will have to ask him yourself. Everyone who I have met at ABC Store #58...have all been so helpful and so friendly...that this type of review would generally be for a small "Mom and Pop" store and not a large franchise. We stopped in here to look for Hawaiian shirts for me. There was a good selection, but not exactly what I was looking for so I passed. But this store has tons of souvenirs, t-shirts, snacks and food. Wow, mahalo, ABC. Following a poor experience with a faulty electronic accessory I purchased at this store -- which I was told was non-refundable -- I did what any frustrated consumer would do, I penned a review. The company immediately responded and asked that I call the store and ask for the manager, Leann. It took me a couple of calls, but I did indeed speak with Leann, who was apologetic and kind, and immediately refunded the cost of the purchase, tax included. She even thanked me, stating that if I hadn't written the review, they wouldn't have been aware of the problem. So here's hoping Leann trains staff to state that faulty accessories can be returned, and here's a couple more stars for the great follow-up. read more

Update: I was contacted in comments below with info that I may have the wrong ABC store. I have reached out to them and am looking into the correct one at which time I will be erasing this review and putting it in the right place! 5 stars for the store itself, 1 star for the coffee place. So we were just in Kauai for a few days staying at the Kauai Shores just around the corner. The first day I got a very tasty ice blended. It was awesome! The next day I ordered a large mocha latte w 1/2 the sugar. It was really, really bad. It was very watery, like a thinned out drip coffee. It was not okay enough to drink it so my friend convinced me to go back in and let them know. While I stood in line I thought, how can I remedy this?! I figured I would ask for the drink I got the day before in a smaller size so it was actually less money than the large latte. I walked up and let the guy behind the counter know that I was hoping to exchange it. He gave me that look of "OH GOD IT'S ONE OF THEM". He said he didn't know that they could do that and called over someone who I assume was the manager. She said "you asked for 1/2 the sugar so I can put more syrup in if that's what you want". The issue wasn't that it wasn't sugary though.. it's that it was meant to be coffee and it was crazy watery (I really don't think it was espresso but that's neither here nor there at this point). I said thank you, no, I didn't want more syrup, I would just prefer a different coffee and I had a great one the day before. She walked away and the guy said they could not do it. I thought I must be mis-hearing so I reiterated that I was not asking for my money back, I was looking for an exchange for a lessor valued coffee, and he said no. So I just left the coffee on the counter and we eventually found a coffee shop on our travels. There area few issues here. #1, the way I was made to feel by asking. #2, the fact that they said no. You could see how watery it was when I took the top off (although at 1st I tried to avoid saying why I wanted to exchange as I didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings). Seems like bad business to not do an equal or lessor value exchange. #3, that they seemed unconcerned about helping me out when the coffee was EIGHT DOLLARS. Full disclosure, it was a large and I used soy which adds $ but for my coffee and my friend's it was a $16 and change. We all know things are expensive in this market but for something like an $8 coffee it was really disappointing that they didn't help me out at all and had serious attitude about it. The attitude made me wonder if maybe people from the mainland are just jerks (as they seemed to be assuming I fell into that category)? I don't know. But it was a bummer. The store itself is cute and full or touristy stuff I fully admit I fell pray to buying lol. ... In case anyone from the store is reading this and wants to know who I am talking about, this was the morning of December the 3rd. read more

ABC Stores are rarer in Kauai than on other Islands. I was pleased to see that there was a location within walking distance from where I was staying at. This ABC Store is located next to Starbucks, and shares the same plaza as Safeway and Longs Drugs. ABC Stores tend to carry a range of items from food and drinks, alcohol, souvenirs (shot glasses, key chains, t-shirts, hats, etc.), sandals/flip flops, sunscreen, tanning lotion, and more! I would recommend going to the ABC Store over Longs Drugs for souvenirs because the prices are more affordable, and they have a better variety of products. On a side note, if you are looking to buy chocolate covered macadamias/souvenirs in BULK... I recommend going to Costco instead! This location was clean, well stocked, and not overly crowded. The cashier was friendly and always reminded me to save my receipts. You get to choose a free gift if you purchase more than $100. read more

Here is a good acceptable standard to look for your essentials in terms of prices (be wary that there are lower prices but this is the max I think one should pay): 1) Boogie Boards: $15 - $17 2) Hawaiian chocolate covered nuts and gift packs: $3 to $6 depending on size. 3) Snorkel gear: $6 cheaper $10 higher quality. 4) Aqua shoes: $8 to $10 5) Goggles: $5 to $9 6) Board shorts: $20 7) Tee shirts/tank tops: $5 to $10. 8) Sandals: $6-7 9) Beach Mats: $2 max! How could I have forgotten this store from the last time we visited Kauai. This is the place to find some good finds for souvenirs. You can find great prices and cool things here, I even bought a couple things for myself! I found some Hershey's Macadamia Nut Kisses that I brought back for my work to share and for the chocolate lover's in the family. I'll have to remember this place when I return to Kauai. Great prices and cool finds. As mentioned from the other Yelper's, the employees are very friendly. I love ABC stores. It wouldn't be a good trip to HI without a stop off at an ABC store. Anything you could possibly want to bring back to family and friends, you'll find at an ABC store. Aloha shirts, hats, chocolate covered macadamia nuts (a must for the office upon return, they go nuts over those! :)) Forgot some toiletries? ABC has you covered. Need some liquor? ABC's got you. Forgot your ibuprofen for the day after cocktails? ABC has you covered. We stopped on this particular trip to pick up some trucker hats. A friend of a friend recommended we should do it so, what the hell. We each got one or three. Warning: read the writing on the hats to ensure Kauai is spelled correctly, one hat read "Rauai." OOPS. One thing you must pick up at an ABC store is a melona bar. It's a creamy Popsicle bar that is simply heaven in each bite, in my humble opinion. Some ABC stores sell spam musobi, not my favorite place to get this. We got everything we needed, plus a whole lot more! The ladies at the checkout counter were super sweet. ABC Stores are a Hawaiian Convenience Store chain that strikes me as a cross between 7-11 and a tourist souvenir shop. The prices are nice too and they're open long hours. I stopped in several times during our recent Kauai stay for wine, snacks, toiletries, reading material, and several things I've already forgotten about. We are staying within walking distance, and they have Hawaiian bottled water for a better price than the grocery stores. They open fairly early and close fairly late. Local rum is only $1 more than Safeway, and there are lots of (relatively) cheap things in there. The employees are really nice. Like everyone says, they carry a little bit of everything. Once you spend $100 total ("save your receipts" they tell you), you get a free thing, either a mug, a shopping bag (including Hello Kitty for those fans), or something else I forget.
