Wtf is the sense of having a self checkout that's closed before 7pm? I guess you guys think we like waiting in line

I never used to go to Safeway because they are always so much more expensive than Times, or Foodland. However, since they started the Just for U program, this is the only place I go. Simply go online and add the deals to your card. There are a bunch of different screens you need to go to to get all the deals: deal match, personalized deals, coupon center, etc. The work is worth it though. I can just go to one store to get all my meat/produce/beer for a decent price. One piece of advice: check your receipt! More times than not, I need to go to customer service to correct them on something. It's usually because some of the coupons that you put on your card doesn't go through. All in all, i'll put up with the work and hassle to make my shopping trip cheaper. Random note: I actually like purchasing new DVD's here. They are usually cheeper than Best Buy and other stores (on the first release week), and you get a bunch of snacks for free with the DVD. read more

Expensiiiiiiive as all get out! Had sticker shock at first. But the produce was fresh and the meat is good if you can afford it. $21.00 for a pack of one cut up chicken? Over $7.00 for a loaf of multi-grain bread and more than $5.00 for eggs. $6.49 for 4 ounces of feta cheese? Over $5.00 for el-cheapo Kraft salad dressing? Hubba hubba. Something had to give or I could not feed my crazy group of friends and family this weekend as promised. I had a few coupons, but knew they alone would not put a huge dent in my checkout bill. Their cashiers are wonderful, friendly and helpful and a sweetheart helped me sign up for the "For U" plan to save large. I saved 45% today and can feed a party of more than 10 this weekend all for $58.00. That's 3 packs of meat, fresh veggies, dressing, cheese, bread and all. Do your homework because they deal match local stores too and use your sunday paper/coupon website coupons! Don't be shamed or shy to do that. It's 2012, every penny counts. Other reviewers are correct. The layout is wonky and there is no rhyme or reason to shelf stocking and product placement. The lighting is hazy. The place is like a maze. Some voodoo marketing tactics to make you walk every isle like a shopping zombie. Props to the Kaneohe Safeway team for being so helpful and friendly! read more

I'm here right now and it finally just turned 10pm. Been standing here for about 5-10 mins. All the lanes were closed but lights on and ringing others. Workers just stare at you and don't tell you what's going on. One guy finally told us and a few others to start forming new lines and put our stuffs down. They have to shut down and restart their registers. Like really? There's about 20-25 people waiting. This lady next to us told us that this happened a few times the other night too. After a long day we just want to grab groceries,pay and leave not stand around waiting to pay. Two stars because only one worker is speaking while the rest is mute I guess and the store is packed with variety of merchandise, no empty shelf. He just now notifies us that this happens every night and the lady who is doing it is slow as always according to him. Also they left lots of carts and stock stuff out blocking the aisles making customers having to squeeze through the small space to get to what they need. Maybe they should come up with a better plan to resolve this situation. I saw some customers putting back things and leaving since they didn't want to wait any longer for registers to restart up. read more

Wanna get seriously ripped off? Then definitely go to Safeway. Boy, for some reason, Safeway on the islands costs SO much more than the other grocery stores such as Foodland or even Times. The ONLY reason why I'm even writing about this particular Safeway is because the guy who makes the poki (not sure if he's still there though but poki is still good) at the deli won the Sam Choy's poki contest a few years back. His poke concoction is some of the best I've ever tasted and best of all, they let you sample everything before you buy it. Needless to say, I sampled every single poki selection they had before deciding. On my top 5 of poki places on Oahu. read more

Safeway - A daily problem - Grocery Near Me - Kaneohe, Hawaii

Horrible deli department. no customer service. Very unpleasant experience each and every trip to the deli. I asked them for chicken wings in the wings bar and the girl told me that she's not going to make until she's done with her lunch. WTH!!! On another trip to the deli, the sandwich girl tawny/tanny was higher than a kite. I didn't know safeway hired druggies. They should make more chicken wings because the demand is high and the people working there have so much excuses as to why they don't want to make more chicken. They are completely lazy.... I love Safeway. They would definitely get the five stars if they had more registers open during peak hours, but they don't. I suggest you go during the day if you can because it's less crowded then, while people are still at work. Most of the workers are super friendly at this location and will usually take time to help if you need it. A few of the workers (Alex and Sam) go out of their way to go above and beyond, and I appreciate that. read more

I really love Safeway... but I also really hate Safeway, especially this location in particular. Pros: I love the products Safeway offers, mostly because I can't find some of my favorites at Foodland and Times. For some reason, it's really hard to find salmon poke and quinoa at other places! Parking isn't too bad here, unless it's a Saturday afternoon. Cons: The whole layout really doesn't make sense at all, and it's very easy to get lost. It was so hard for me to find my quinoa here since there was no marked isle for grains or rice. I found it in the baking section... The employees seem unknowledgeable of the products Safeway carries. I asked one of the clerks where the quinoa was and she didn't even know they sold it. Overall: Meh... go to Wholefoods. read more

ONE clerk on register when the store is busy and a line going down the aisle for the self checkout, which most people don't even know how to use, then handed bags and told to bag your own overpriced groceries. Stay away from the Fried Chicken in the Deli! Today is the second time I have tried to have Fried Chicken for lunch. I have to travel 20 miles to get to this Safeway. So, when I purchase something for my family for lunch I have to drive home to eat. Today I purchased Three Chicken Breasts, fried. I got home and in the bag were three Chicken Backs with tails on them. They were dried out and there was a strange Pink residue inside what meat was there. Last time I tried to purchase Fried Chicken, I got home with Three Breasts but they were like Jerky! Do Not Buy their Fried Chicken! read more

I enjoy going to this Safeway for a few reasons. Firstly, there is a very beautiful Samoan girl who works there. Secondly, their meats and fruits are fresh. This Safeway is notorious for having THE longest lines at checkout. I've literally been standing here for 15 min and am still 4 deep. The signs say they'll open more lines if there are more than 3 in line......either someone can't count or the sign is bogus. Absolutely ridiculous. read more

My review is of the bakery. One lady in particular.. it was my daughter's 10th birthday and I was running behind. I needed to pick up a cake so I stopped in. There was a lady at the register and one back working on a cake as it looked like someone else asked for writing. After a minute the lady asked what I need. I told her just writing of Happy Birthday. She turns and says she's finishing another one and will be with you in a minute. The lady in the back says I can't help you I am on over time I was supposed to get off at 7pm. I look at my phone and it is 7:02!!! I said whatever and if I wasn't already so late would have taken it up with the manager. So instead of making my bad night better by taking a couple of minutes to write it.. forget it. Horrible customer service lady!! read more

Huge Safeway in Hawaii, and you can purchase anything that you might have forgotten to pack on the mainland. Or any snacks you're interested in. However, there seemed to be less items on sale, and the regular prices were on the high side. At least there is a large parking lot so you don't have to circle. read more

Nice big parking lot. Went in to grab some milk then happened to check out the bakery section, ahem. Yeah right I went there on a mission to pick a piece of cake to satisfy my sweet tooth! Circled the cake area a couple times geez everything looked good! Settled on a chocolate w/white buttercream. I love the fact they have individual slices. The only thing that would make it perfect is if they stuck in a fork so I wouldnt have to stare at that cake on the drive home! LOL The only problem I have is not enough checkout lines. Today wasnt too bad, but that's not usually the case. Finally got home and the cake was awesome! Had to eat it in two sessions, really big piece. Never disappointed with their desserts! read more

Stopped in to pick up a birthday card and a few other items. Cashier bagged everything except my card, and I already left Kaneohe to head to the birthday party. Called the store 3x and was on hold could not reach ANYONE for over 30 mins. I hope when I take the receipt back and dispute charges for an item I didn't receive, I don't get hassled. read more

I looked at the online ad before walking into the store. My first hint should have been the butter that was twice the amount the ad stated. I go all around looking for $5 Fridays signs because I'm finally off on a Friday and I can shop early. If I shop after work, everything is gone. I wait my turn in selecting donuts. The bakery confirmed it was $5 even though no sign (not the first time no sign, so I believe). Get to the register and the donuts ring full price. I tell them I don't want the donuts and I'm met with not the nicest stare back. I get that they probably are taking a loss, but they need to get that I feel like I'm in a bait and switch thing at this point. I ask what is on sale for $5 Friday and I'm told they don't have $5 Fridays. I check my phone back in the car and find out I had the right dated ad, just it's a California ad and not Hawaii. Good luck at finding a Hawaii ad online- when I try to bring it up it just has popular selling products and not the ad I clicked on. I'm disappointed to say the least that the $5 Fridays have disappeared or at least aren't there on a day that I can go. I get that they have additional shipping costs to get to Hawaii, but it still is disheartening to see an ad for another state that is so cheap and has $5 Fridays still. This supermarket is easy find next to the mall in Kaneohe. Just like any grocery store everything is where it should be. I'm giving it a 4 star because the cashier was very friendly and they even have someone to help you carry groceries to your car without having to ask. read more

Can you believe Kaneohe Safeway had the nerve to sell a sandwich for $3.99 and use the butt of the bread?? That's okay if you do that at home especially if you like the ends of the bread. If it's a sandwich for sale, no one is expecting to pay money for the end slice!! This is my second bad experience. The first was a sandwich made to order. :( read more

IMPRESSIVE. I'm a super fan of Safeway shopping. Best prices and good customer service. In the deli department, I was promptly greeted by a young man soft spoken man named Nick. Prepared my order well and smiled, now that's something sometimes you don't see in grocery stores. It took some getting used to going around the store as I absolutely adore the Safeway on Beretania, but all in all, service and this location served my needs for the moment. My check out clerk, Betty, was the absolute best! Smiles, jokes and happiness, now this is a lady who clearly enjoys her job. Well done! read more

This single star would be a zero if possible and this only applies to Safeway Corporate and local management. Staff are pleasant and helpful and I do appreciate them. People, I avoid this place as much as possible and go to the Target in Kailua. They have basic produce, meat...but..Rotel tomatoes $2.69 Safeway -vs-$1.19 Target...worth the trip. Prices, quality of Safeway brands, awful baked goods, wait time in line, and no stock for Friday specials!!! Arrived today at 7:30am for two particular items...neither available. Covid-19 has made this place a nightmare. They have closed the restrooms to customers so customers can not use the bathroom or wash their hands....yet allow people in the store without wearing face masks! Go all in or go home! As a shopper at this store-- I was disappointed they would not let me use the restroom. I watched employees restocking soups but not 6 ft away, many sustainers without face masks and empty shelves and long lines. I was going to leave my filled cart because the lines were so long and I couldn't wait--- some was n you Safeway .. even when asked. I called ahead, and asked the bakery if they did custom cookie cakes. They told me they did, and that they could have it ready by the time that I needed. Within thirty minutes, I was at the store and made my way to the bakery. I stood at the register for a good minute before the girl behind the counter said "do you need something" Well... yes thats why Im standing here. I told her "Yes, I need to order a cookie cake", only to be told they dont make cookie cakes. I asked her why I was told otherwise over the phone not even an hour ago and she said shes not sure, but they do not offer them. Thank you all for being there and trying to take precautions. However. Putting a saran wrap type of plastic on the igenico card re as ders is a valiant try, however it does nothing to protect from germ. One finger on the wrap and it's contaminated. Why bother if your not going to wipe it down after each use. Also limit of 100 customers at a time, who's counting, no one is, well over 100 customers in the store read more

Sandwhich lady Merlinda,who is always there is a real piece of work. Sometimes nice, often non communicative, and abrupt. Got to walk on eggs to get a good sandwhich, and God forbid if you complain about the chicken being unusually hard to chew ( old or freezer burn) dunno?
