I went into Safeway today to buy some things. I was surprised when I got to the organic tomatoes counter. Most of them were rotating and had some kind of bugs flying around them around them.

Flip over the tri-tip to discover you've got some fat to trim.
Steve S.

Once again in my personal saga of buying tri-tip at Safeway includes photos: - Looks good in the package - Turn it over and see 6 ounces of fat that needs to be trimmed Is there a moral to this? Yes. There are lots of consumers who will pay less to pay more to get less and have the convenience of "one stop shopping". This is about short term gains for Safeway in retailing. Meanwhile, Safeway is the only place I can get Jimmy Dean sausage which I'm addicted to, so I have to go back.

Need: better customer service at checkout and more cashiers because a 7 personal line on a Friday at noon is crazy.

Good deals, big selection, they pay their clerks well---it's just a grocery store but they do a good job.

What a great market! And their sandwich counter is The Best…read more You can create your own masterpiece or pick from over a dozen ideas they have listed. We were on a tour that ordered from Big John's. We liked it so much we came back again the following day to grab another sandwich to eat while we were wine tasting. The store is a full market plus a big selection of pre-made and To Go foods. And they have a great wine selection! Lots of great locals finds there. Mind you... they don't carry Everyone and Everything but they have a lot of the local wineries there at reasonable prices. If you need to put together snacks (aka fancy Chacuterie) for a party, this is the place to go. It's better than Whole Paycheck (Foods) IMO and the prices are better. If you are staying at a rental with a kitchen, definitely come here to stock up on meats, breads and produce. Highly recommend making a stop here!

We also wanted pasta and they have a large variety of high quality pasta. We went to a winery and we were recommended to come here from a local and it's definitely worth stopping by if you are staying in an Airbnb or a great place to find items for a charcuterie board or pretty picnic if you're doing one at the vineyard. We wished we had stopped by sooner in our trip! If comparing to LA grocers, this would be similar to Bristol Farms, but they had a wide variety of prices for their goods so that they had reasonably priced, nice items as well. We also saw cute stationary items in their gift wrap, gift bag and cards area.

Cold, processed deli meats with the standard condiments is just not appealing to me. As we were driving through Healdsburg for lunch, my friend's Tesla suggested "Summer's Market & Deli" for a quick bite. The suggested reviews offered "BEST sandwiches" - though I had bias reservations (again, I don't like sandwiches). The shop is located in a neighborhood one mile off the beaten path. There are a couple of wooden picnic tables outside. Upon entering, the store is sparse, with a small ordering counter on the right side, drink fridge in the back and a few local items for purchase on the left side. The menu offered a variety of hot and cold sandwiches. I ordered the "Grilled Chicken Pesto sandwich", off the FAVORITES sandwiches menu. It includes a hearty combo of grilled chicken breast, red bell peppers, caramelized onions, provolone cheese, lettuce and tomato on a focaccia roll. WOW - the combination of high-quality ingredients made this one of the BEST sandwiches I have ever had!! Well done Summer! Will definitely recommend to all my friends and look forward to returning when I am in the area.

The owners are almost always there and they are very friendly. They have a good selection of chips, sodas/drinks, and other snacks as well. You can order our food and eat inside or outside. I do prefer lazzinis in SR but this is definitely up there on places that offer tasty sandwiches.

I ordered a super burrito carne asada to go. It was a bit difficult as the guy at the taqueria didn't speak English. Another employee came over and was bi-lingual. I told him I wanted a super burrito carne asada, no lettuce. He said they only have al pastor and pollo right now. So I said I'll take the al pastor. He translated my order to the 1st guy. It took 15 minutes for him to make the burrito. There were no other customers at the taqueria. He grilled the al pastor on the flattop and then proceeded to assemble my super burrito. The woman cashier spoke perfect English so checkout was good. I took it home to eat. It was delicious and the flavors of the al pastor stood out. I recommend this Lola's taquiera as long as you're not in a hurry. This ain't fast food. Also, maybe brush up on your Spanish as it would help in ordering food. I've attached pictures of the television screen menus for your viewing pleasure. It looks like they have menudo and birria on weekends. I'll have to return to try both.

I love local wines, but this Italian girl also loves exploring and trying these imported Italian wines and provisions too. Variety...the spice of life! The owners are extremely knowledgeable about all the wines they carry. Need a recommendation? Just ask! I've been in a few times so far to purchase Italian wines and treats including Antonio Mattei Biscotti di Prato (the best biscotti ever!), torrone (a nougat confection), pasta, and tomato sauce. They also carry Italian sardines, olive oils, cookbooks, wine decanters, and more. Follow them on social to learn about their Friday wine tastings (I still need to get to one), and give them a visit!

It's great to be back!…read moreWe have been visiting Ciao Bruto for the past few months, it's a fabulous new Italian wine and Provision store (along with French Champagne) that is unlike any other wine and provision store in the North Bay, or even in most of the Bay Area. Large, excellent selection of high quality wine from every region in Italy. Piedmont, Sicily, Tuscany etc. etc. they are all covered and in EVERY price range. I have bought numerous bottles based off the recommendations of the owners, all have been exceptional. Add in a large selection of French Champagne and Italian sparkling wine and you have a truly unique assortment of Italian wine and French Champagne. If that was the extent of Ciao Bruto it would be great but the provisions part of the store is awesome! Specialty Italian ancient grain pasta in all shapes and sizes. Believe me, you can taste the difference compared to chain store pasta. Also a large assortment of tinned fish-shellfish, honey, spices, vinegars and oils, pickled veggies, various pestos and sauces, flour, chocolates and others confections, pasta making machines, Italian cookbooks and a whole lot more. All this imported from Italy! You can't quite completely "grocery shop" there but you can get specialty food, wine and provisions you simply can't get anywhere else. Ciao Bruto is the creation from the people next door at Idlewild Wines, also makers of great Italian Piedmont varieties such as Dolcetto, Barbara, Nebbiolo, Arneis etc. all grown in nearby Mendocino County. Service at Ciao Bruto is friendly and very helpful. Not sure about Italian wine, French Champagne or specialty food from Italy, no problem, just ask for help from Courtney whose expertise is French Champagne or Thomas whose knowledge is all about Italian wine and food. We are so happy to have Ciao Bruto locally here in Healdsburg!
