Safeway in Flagstaff I visited this Safeway twice in one day, and both times I noticed the same issue: a truck had hit the handicap parking signs. It's surprising and disappointing to see this happen repeatedly in such a short time. The store itself is fine--well-stocked and clean--but the parking situation is unacceptable. If this keeps happening, Safeway should address it by either reinforcing the signs or improving the parking lot's design. And to the drivers: please learn how to park better, especially near handicap spaces, as it directly affects accessibility for others. I recommend Safeway in general, even though it is pricier than Fry's. We have been Safeway regulars for over twenty years. The products at Safeway simply seem to be of higher quality. This particular location is convenient because it is closer to our home. But its proximity to the NAU campus means that on certain days various sections are almost cleaned out by the time we get there. This particular Safeway is not as clean as others and seems a bit run down. The location at 1500 E Cedar is much cleaner and more appealing, and it has a gasoline station where one can use the points accumulated for substantial discounts. I have used the Safeway pharmacy at this location for various medications and a flu shot. The pharmacy staff is helpful, but one needs to be aware of their hours, because they close much earlier than the rest of the store. Unfortunately, for some reason, I have had several occasions where they did not have my medication in stock and needed to order it. When I ordered a medication through the Safeway pharmacy app, it told me that my prescription would be ready the next day. When I came a couple of days later, they said they needed to order it, which required an extra trip. That is a drawback if one is sick and even short trips present difficulties. read more

Last summer, I don't know what happened, but every starbucks drink and french fry from the deli tasted... like it was contaminated with something that tasted really gross. Witnessed a deli worker being openly racist to a worker that had just started and putting him down. That was awkward. And Safeway, just honestly, too expensive, and people shop there because it's just there. Their hot soups are great, the chicken is not. The lines are always long, and one time when I was outside, I swear to god they shut the wifi off on me while I was eating. The starbucks workers are always great though, and now the drinks are fine. If you want to shop and not spend hundreds of dollars, Safeway is definitely not the place. I just moved back from California about two years ago, I was there for eight years, and I have never in my life have I spent so much on groceries. The main issue for me and I'm sure others out there who have animals, is the pricing on dog and cat food. I've been spending 10-15 for THREE YEARS on my dog food. normally that's for a 7 pound bag. I went in the other day, currently struggling with money, and the SEVEN pound bag was the same exact price as a 27 pound bag at Walmart. If you want to shop correctly stay the hell away from Safeway, I get groceries cheaper in California and that's a fact. let that sink in, CALIFORNIA has better prices at stater brothers than this twisted upside down Establishment. We aren't all spoiled NAU students who can afford to buy dog food and groceries because mommy and daddy send money. these are hard times, so if you wanna save money. Don't go to this chain. staff sucks anyways. one more thing to add, Walmart is TEN TIMES more affordable and their employee's aren't incapable of doing their job. this is all coming from a local, just FYI. minus living in another state for 8 years I was born and raised here, going on 20 years of living in this town, and this is absolutely atrocious. Store is clean and usually well-stocked. Produce section is one of the better ones in town. Prices are competitive on most items and the Safeway Select products are of pretty good quality (espeically the Ice Cream). The lines tend to get a little long at times. Good parking. If you're just looking to run in to quickly use the restroom, by the way, don't bother. The store installed combination locks on the public restrooms. Employees are happy to give out the combo, but you have to find one and ask first. read more

I normally enjoy going to safeway . Got propel but they were just out of stock . I checked out but noticed that I was overcharged for cherries. The cashier told me he could not refund me . I. Checked a second time on the price to confirm and went to customer service . Who then went to check. They refunded me the overcharge but was not sorry for the error . Feel really taken advantage of! I ordered two balloons and a cake, (a small one at that - after my daughter sent a picture) - for my daughter's 21st birthday. I live in the valley, ordered it via the phone. It cost me almost $40, and then when my daughters boyfriend went to pick them up that he was charged an additional $10 for the cake. As for the store- it's a decent Safeway. As for the parking lot- 11 homeless asking people for money as I sit in our truck waiting for my husband to shop. One young girl came up to my closed window saying "Hi"- I smiled & waved no thanks- she yelled F-U at my window & flipped me off! There are 3 women that I can see walking around with homemade containers stating they are raising money for abused kids/mothers- like the girl who yelled F-U to me. Worst place I've been! Be very careful here- don't leave valuables in your car or windows rolled down. So sad that this is now all over My once beloved Flag'. I switched to Safeway from Basha's since Safeway will donate a percentage of my sales to whichever school/charity I choose (Kaibab Learning Center @ Grand Canyon, in my case) via Escrip. I really like this program! This location is my favorite of the three in town, mostly due to it's cheese and floral selection. (Why yes, I am the kind of girl that buys myself flowers!) I have found the store to have a pretty good produce selection as well. The lines are usually long but the staff has almost always been genuine and competent. Today, I got annoyed for the first time by a stinky new flagstaff trend: locking the bathrooms to customers only. This is quite inconvenient to actual customers, whom must find a clerk to tell them the secret code, then place your palm on a key pad to activate it, then rapidly tap a secret code into it before the numbers fade away. Very Annoying to have to ask to pee like I am in elementary school! I am calling the manager to complain so stay tuned for an update. Right now I am not letting this annoyance ruin my rating, but I will buy my groceries at a more customer friendly store until the bathrooms are fixed. This store--on Cedar Avenue--consistency fails to stock up on sale items, the result being that they advertise specials but then don't have them in stock. This has happened to me 3 times in the past 3 weeks. When I complained to an employee at the service desk they were out of milk and yogurt on sale , he said "Oh, sorry 'bout that, man." We made a couple of quick stops here while staying at a local Airbnb. Once for a food re-supply, and the next trip for gas. The grocery trip was easy, and we sourced some fresh fish and staples for a nice getaway meal at our cabin. The second stop was on our way out of town for the inexpensive gas here, but I wished I had paid a little more down the road for an easier ingress/egress to the pumps. It was busy here on a Friday morning when we went to fill up, with several 40 foot plus motorhomes and even a semi-style construction vehicle in line (they sell diesel fuel as well)...but with all the vehicles lined up, it spills out into the traffic accessing the main grocery store lot. The parking lot planners from Costco could have helped here. I would NOT recommend this gas station if you are towing a trailer or large vehicle. The pumps are closer together, making it impossible for two large profile vehicles to pump gas at the same time. This also slows down the traffic at the pumps, making the lines spilling out into traffic dangerous...a literal traffic domino effect. Long story short, take the 10 to 15 cent hit and avoid the 35 minute wait to fill your tank. The time you save going to another station is well worth the extra pennies. read more
