I've been confused for some time now about the large sign in front of most of these stores that indicates 'Signature Cafe'. I've asked employees at two different stores, and they don't seem to know what the heck I'm talking about. The employee at this store directed me to the Starbucks. My guess is that there really is no Signature Cafe withing these grocery stores, and the signage is misleading. Why? I came here today and purchases a California Roll sushi pack, which is still reasonable priced. I also got an 8 pack of Peligrino water. One of the employees was nice enough to direct me to the correct aisle. I prefer this grocery store above other chains, mainly because of their awesome deli and their low prices. read more

I think this store has actually taken steps to improve since my last review. It looks much cleaner, smells better, and the stock is improved. I'm also improving my rating because the selection of international/regional foods is quite good here, so I can find items that the Target in the same shopping center doesn't carry. For example, there's a whole "Southern food" section with lots of Cajun spices and mixes. Still not my favorite store by a long shot, but I am happy to see changes being made for the better. The seafood section looks sort of sad, but the meats seem better. They have fewer funky looking, reduced, quick sale items, and the packaging seems less likely to spill. Prices are somewhat competitive, but some items seem sort of high. I don't shop for home health items here because I'd rather just go to Target or the Sally Beauty next door for that. And as in my first review - Starbucks still looks very sad. Skip it for the Dunkin Donuts across the parking lot! (Or Starbucks in Target.) read more

As a recent transplant to Northern VA, things natives take for granted I find weird. Terrible traffic and the lack-luster behavior passing as customer service. My Safeway (yes--Mine...'cause I like it), has friendly employees. Not creepy 'too nice' robot people, but the real kind of attentive employees. The woman at the checkout who teases me about how much ice-cream I take home in one trip. The employees who know I can never remember the difference between hot peppers: they explain it to me at least three times a month. Yeah, the produce is fresh, the meat is prime and well priced. Oh, and their sour dough round loafs are excellent...just sayin. So, their goods are typical Northern VA fair: excellent quality and a touch more expensive than I'm used to, (but no more expensive than any other grocery I've been too). But I like Safeway (yes, because it's close to my house), but also because I feel like the employees see me. In an area with too many crazy drivers and frustrated fellow customers, being seen is no small thing. read more

Honestly, I have no idea why I ever stop here, but I was across the street and decided to go in. Yes, I found what I wanted, but checkout continues to be a mess. Because I had only a few items, and because the cashier was just finishing the previous customer, instead of self check, I went to the express line. The cashier rang everything up and bagged nothing. No, seriously, she didn't even make an effort. Now I have no objection to bagging my own groceries, however it might've been nice if she had at least joined in. Instead, she just stood there waving my receipt at me and I had to come back from the end of the checkout counter to get it. If they are trying to convince people to use the self check out, that particular cashier is a great asset to the store. Otherwise, that particular cashier is a great liability. read more

This is absolutely the worst Safeway I have ever visited. I live nearby and will go out of my way to shop other places if possible. The problem here is with the customer service and the employees. They never have enough cashiers, there are always two or three self service machines that are broken, the customer service desk is never staffed and employees are more interested in talking to one another and their friends; than helping shoppers. The only positives in the store is the Starbucks, free wifi and ample seating for surfing the web and enjoying a frapachino. read more

Probably the most poorly run Safeway in town. There's never a cashier available, except this one wonderful lady named Judy. She's the exception Plus, if you buy anything from the deli or the bakery; good luck having anything to put it in. You'll have to Jerry rig Saran Wrap to put fried chicken in or plastic cups topped off with rubber bands and Sarah wrap. Or paper towels to keep your donuts. No lie this just happened... The employees generally have a bad attitude. Plus they are constantly complaining to each other about how horrible it is to work there... Good times... Sharing my Experience. Until today, I liked this store, since the Safeway at Bailey's Crossroads closed back in June. I had chosent his to be my go to Safeway. I am a Safeway shopper and have been for over 30 years. However my experience today has set me back and I think I will abandon trying to find a Safeway and just give Giant's my money. As my daughter and I were leaving this store today after completing shopping (we were at different registers) and buying a Starbucks drink, her cart came to a halt and the alarm went off. We did not think anything of it, as it could be a sensor that was left on an item. So while we were waiting for someone to come and remove the sensor, a young man comes along, waves a wand and told my daughter that everything was okay. So I am behind my daughter, with my cart and cane, and the same thing happens. So I knew then that this was not a coincidence and how many ways can you make something so embarrassing for a customer as to have an alarm go off on them as if they have done something wrong while the whole world looks on. If you think that I did something wrong, I would prefer if you approach me or follow me around the store until you are satisfied that I am not. I am Black so I am so used to that, that it does not bother me. I am giving this store a very long break. Giant you have Safeway at 7 Corners to thank for my decision to become your customer and giving you 85% of my grocery dollars in the future. Maybe I will still stop in the Annandale store when I am in the area, but otherwise good-bye Safeway. read more

Currently standing at customer service. When I first walked up there was a woman buying lottery tickets. I didn't pay her any mind. When she was done she walked into the back room behind the CS counter. Didn't say a word to me. I stood at the counter for a little over 5 minutes before the person at one of the isles asked me if anyone was helping me. I replied no so he was nice enough to call over the speaker for me. The same woman who was buying the tickets came out of the room, again did not say anything to me, and was on the computer entering in the numbers from her lottery tickets. I asked her if she was going to be the one helping me. She said yes as soon as she was done. My first and last time in this store. The one star is for the man nice enough to ask if I needed help and call for me. read more

This was a fairly nice Safeway. Only needing a few items and already hitting up 2 other stores in the shopping center, I decided to just pop in here instead of going to my regular grocery store. On a mid-Saturday afternoon the store wasn't very crowded and there were 5-6 cashiers on duty so after I found what I was looking for - plus a few additional things that just leapt into my cart - I headed for the checkout and was back out to the car in no time. If you need to head East on 50 when you leave, be sure to head out the side exit and make a left onto Patrick Henry where you'll be able to easily turn left at the light onto 50 (2 lanes turn left). read more

Much improved since the recent renovation. What used to be a depressing, dirty grocery store is now a trendy looking, clean grocery store at the old, low prices. I'd say this Safeway is almost as nice as Harris Teeter for everything other than the meat and seafood counters. Not to say meat and seafood is bad here, but the selection of items that are available behind the glass at these counters is lacking. I like the feeling of pointing at a filet I want and having them wrap it in butcher paper. The meat and seafood is substantially cheaper here than at Harris Teeter though. Overall, this Safeway is a great improvement to the neighborhood. Between this store, the new Red Robin, the Dogfish Head, and the nearby Target, this area is becoming a lot nicer and more attractive. Now if only we can do something about the horrible traffic patterns in this area. read more

I'm not sure why this Safeway gets such mixed reviews. I've been coming here regularly for a while, and I can't remember a time that wasn't a pleasant shopping experience! The staff are helpful and nice. There are plenty of self-checkout lines. There's a mini Starbucks inside the store (also with friendly staff). And the store always appears well-stocked and clean! What more could you ask for?! It's a good solid grocery store with a lot of brand options at a low price. They even have a sizable deli and bakery department. Call me pleased! Sure, it's not as swanky as Whole Foods, but it's also not as pricy. I want a selection of food options with low prices, and a clean and attractive store with an easy-access parking lot. I've totally got that with this Safeway!! Tip: download the Safeway app for your phone and get even more savings on the items you buy the most. read more

Northern Virginia grocery stores are generally bad on a good day, but this Safeway is particularly subpar. The joy started when there were no carts to be found in the store, meaning a trek back into the parking lot to find one. On a weekend day, the produce was poorly stocked; when I went to grab for a peach, a dozen fruit flies flew away. Gross! The corn shucking bucket was overflowing onto the ground, and in general, the store just seemed messy. After standing in a long, slow-moving line, I was shocked to find a grocery bagger in my line, but she had no clue how to balance the weight of grocery bags, so I had to re-bag them. Finally, the location near Seven Corners makes it difficult to turn onto the road the way you want to, so overall, this is not a store I would choose to shop at. read more

As far as grocery stores go, I'm a fan. This Safeway is large, clean, and has lots of self-check out machines. They always have lots of sales and have a gas rewards program with Exxon-Mobile. I work from home so I always go during non-peak hours and never have any trouble checking out. Usually during the work day there are two cashiers and all self-check out lanes open. The times that I've gone after 5pm have been more crowded and I've had to wait in long lines. But, since I am able to avoid peak shopping times, this typically isn't a problem. This Safeway will continue to be my go-to grocery store...until my area gets a Wegman's at least. read more

I didn't think the customer service at Safeway could suck anymore than it already does, but this store takes the cake! When I realized there was no milk on the shelf at 6:30 PM on a Saturday night I asked an employee for assistance (it was clear there was loads of milk behind the shelves in the back of the cooler) he said he'd get someone, which he never did. I proceed to the customer service desk where I waited 5 minutes for a manager to show up. When I asked the manager for the milk he said, "we must be out." When I said that I saw the milk in the cooler and they were clearly, not out, he gave me a rather annoyed look and asked a bagger to go with me to get it. If you can avoid this store, I would highly recommend the Harris Teeter in Ballston. read more

The place looks great and is very spacious. On the plus side the veggies and fruit are in good condition. Negatives are that they rarely have the items that I go specifically to Safeway (as opposed to any of the numerous other grocery stores in the area) for--such as their "Eating Right" line of foods. The last 5 times I have been there they were out of the item I wanted. 5 times! Also, the prices really aren't great compared to even Giant or Shoppers. I came to the deli looking to get a sandwich made fresh. It took about five minutes before I asked the sushi guy if anyone was going to help me. He went to a back room and out walks Miss No Manners. Her name was Baby. I asked her for the Chicken Artichoke Sandwich and she replied, "I don't got anymore mozzarella cheese." Oh, okay. Anyway, the rest of the store is really clean and they have a Starbucks. Just reccomend staying away from the 'Signature Cafe.' read more

I'm done. DONE! With this Safeway location and all Safeway locations! It is unacceptable to rest on your laurels if you will. Meaning, just because you're so well located, doesn't mean you can run your store like junk and have an entire neighborhood and community forced to shop with you. You don't have a monopoly and you offer nothing to make me want to shop with you. I HATE that you are the closest grocery store to my house. But Instacart, here I come! This store is dirty, poorly stocked and full of THEE most unhappy, unhelpful, miserable and disgruntled employees ever. I've lived in the DC area for 7 years and I get that it's not a super happy place but customer service is not completely dead yet. So Safeway, I don't care if your bakery cookies are my favorite. This store has so much potential, but really needs better management. The store is clean and newer and located next to a Target and Petsmart....this is the main reason I return to this location. The main issue with this location is the understaffing and management. They generally only have 2-3 cashiers on Saturday and Sunday afternoon (resulting in very long wait times) and are always running out of carts inside. Last week a manager opened a line and had us come over. He was also monitoring the self-chekout area. While he was checking us out, he left the line twice to go help the other customers. Never said a thing to us...we just stood there, confused. I expect better from a manager. And my biggest pet peeve is the overhead PA system. It is constantly used by obnoxious employees to direct other employees (not advertise sales, etc). Get some freaking walkie talkies. I don't need to know that Kevin is needed in the meat department. Finally, try not to plan your weekly menu based on things that are on sale- they usually run out by Sunday afternoon. With a couple minor changes, this place could provide a much better customer experience. read more

This Safeway is the worst. I am pretty loyal to Safeway in every place we lived, but this one makes me rethink all of that. They NEVER EVER have enough cashiers. It's a given that you're going to wait at least ten minutes to get out of there. And don't think that using the self-checkout will help. It's even worse. It trips up ALL of the time and there's never anyone there to fix it for you. I would not write a negative review based on one experience. This has happened to me more often than not when I've gone there. The employees are not helpful or kind and half of them seem to just be milling about doing nothing. It really is the worst run Safeway I've been to. The ONLY plus in this place is that it's clean. There's one girl at the Starbucks inside the store that is also really nice. read more

This is a solid modern safeway grocery store. Unlike the fossil on wilson blvd. This store is clean, spacious isles, and has all the good stuff: The bakery. The deli. Wine department. Very good produce selection & quality. Starbucks. etc. & self-checkout. They got the regular carts and the compact ones which I like better. Accurate checkout: No over charging or mislabeled prices. The negative: There has been a quite a few times when their were not enough checkout people available and the self-checkout machines were partially out of service creating long lines everywhere. I started going to this particular store because Target was in the same shopping center. However, one day, I had to deal with a cashier who couldn't distinguish between bananas and plantains and charged me more with my purchase. Then the employee at the customer service desk couldn't give me correct changes back. When I politely pointed it out to him, he told me that it was impossible to prevent mistakes happening at the store. I'm not expecting them to be perfect all the time, but I believe no customer want to hear that kind of comments from a store employee after they already made a couple of mistakes for one particular purchase in one store visit. read more

The grocery items are fine at this store, but it simply does not come across as well managed. Some examples: The wheels on the carts are VERY often out of whack; the internet rarely works; the motion detectors on the doors are frequently broken (one of them for at least the past whole month!); and they rarely have enough staff. Lately, there have been some new cashiers that seem better trained (e.g. Reynard), but the long time staff there are slow. God help you if you need something at the service counter ... it is NEVER manned. I shop there because it is close to my home, but I prefer BJ's (for items I need in quantity) or the Giant (if I am heading to that part of Falls Church). read more

After throwing away countless moldy produce items 2 days (or less!) after purchase and having to shop at a second store because of the empty shelves, I can no longer afford to give them my business. It's 3 in the afternoon, I have a cart brimming with groceries, two kids in tow and only the express lane and the Self Service lanes are open? WHAT? Look, the recent college graduates who are picking up the six packs and the frozen pizza might appreciate the self service lanes, and the SOL (sweet old lady) with the National Enquirer and Ensure loves the Express lane, but for the love of GOD, do you not see the 8 moms with screaming kids and bulging carts who need a little S-E-R-V-I-C-E? And for the record, I'm not a "silent" Yelper; I may vent here, but the store manager has heard this complaint from me personally, more than once. Step it up, People. SAFEWAY RELABELS OLD SELL BY DATES TO SELL YOU OLD MEAT AT FULL PRICE Went shopping for some steaks to grill tonight.. There were a bunch of prepackaged steaks that had old SELL BY labels torn off and new ones with later sell by dates put on top. This is disgusting and should be illegal! It was also very lazy attempt at deceiving customers because on the back of the steak was an additional small sticker that had the old sell by date on them that they forgot to remove. These were mostly Safeway Signature Select Flat Iron steaks that I could tell had been Some of the steaks had 8/20 as the old sell by date and had been replaced with 8/30 dates on the front! Other steals had 8/25 date removed and replaced with 8/30. I was shocked when I started noticing this on lots of the meat and wanted to warn everybody in the store. I also wanted to noftify management or call a news investigative reporter to make everyone aware that this is happening.I removed a few of the steaks to bring up to customer service... but there was NOBODY there. I was so mad because I have bought a lot of steaks from Safeway but no I wonder if I was eating old expired meat. So gross! And I am getting ripped off paying full price for this old meat too! I can't shop here anymore. Go check it out... look for removed label sticker debris under a new label and compare date to the sticker on the back! SHAMEFUL! read more

Good clean large grocery store in Seven Corners. But missing some of the basics. Such as has been noted some of the self-service check out machines have large cracks in the glass/plastic rendering them slower than the others. Rather than fix the cracked glass/plastic or post a note warning the consumer slower than usual you might want to wait for a live check out person, Safeway does nothing. Leaving the hapless consumer screwed. Also the healthy organic sliced Applewood chicken is over priced at $8.49 per package. Harris Teeters in Tysons Corner sells a perfectly comparable product at $5.99 per package. Both are all organic healthy sliced white chicken. read more

A pretty nice looking Safeway, very clean and well organized. However I'm giving them such a low review because their produce is atrocious! Everything is always rotted and never fresh, I always end up going to another store because their produce is disgusting. While looking through the cucumber bin, I counted all the thirty cucs and they were all rotting or poc marked! Ew! read more

My hopes were met by the new store, which opened in September 2010. It is much bigger and nicer. The baked-goods section in particular is excellent, and the produce is much improved. There is a Starbucks and a dry cleaner in the front of the store. I tried ordering a made-to-order sandwich there on a weekday recently and it took a ridiculously long time -- not worth it. I continue to wish that there were better stores in this shopping center. They gave it a nice facelift, but other than the Safeway, Target, and PetsMart, the stores are dumpy (Goodwill, beauty and tanning supply stores, seedy-looking restaurants) and not doing anything to attract an upscale clientele. UPDATE: The shopping center now has a Chick-fil-A and a decent (non-seedy) Tex-Mex place. Hooray! read more
