I'm not sure why people think the employees at this location are rude.... they are always super friendly with me.... down to earth, helpful, and personable. Maybe they're giving back the attitude you give to them? read more

This safeway is nice. The shelves are always stocked and the prices reflect the sales prices. The only down fall is they need more cashiera during the peak hours. read more

I bought a birthday cake from Safeway this week that was not the usual cake I see there. It was fantasy princess cake. It was a double decker cake. I have ordered cakes from Safeway before that were great but nothing like this. It was best cake I have ever ordered from any cake place. So if you need a great cake, ask for Laura. She did an outstanding job! read more

Safeway - This cake was made by a baker named Laura at Concord Willow Pass bakery. Just beautiful! - Grocery Near Me - Concord, California

Review is based on dozens of visits over a couple of years. Pros: Large selection of items. Cons: The worst, bottom-of-the-barrel service imaginable. The signs say they have a 3's a crowd policy, but it is NEVER enforced. Long check-out lines, slow, borderline-retarded cashiers (with just 1 or 2 exceptions). They always put the slowest cashier on the express lane!! Bums hang out in front of the store day and night. I have personally seen them stealing from the bulk item bins. The store does nothing about it. Verdict: AVOID. This place sucks. read more

I just had the best sandwich ever, I'm shocked too, ALEX made my Grecian Delight ( pepper turkey, olive mix, red onions and jalapenos ) I added the jalapenos on sour dough. The other thing that made this the best sandwich ever was that ALEX dealt with the customer in front of me with no attitude at all, he was on his phone the whole time and had to be asked repeatedly about toppings. Sorry not a phone lover when interacting with others, but Alex dealt with that and didn't looked scared when i mention my sandwich which is no longer on the menu. Made it, ate it, fantastic. Thank you Alex for showing me some people want to work read more

This Safeway has been kind to me, they deal with lots of crappy customers and weirdos, thanks for the hard work!

I frequent this Safeway about once a month and it's always a great experience. I like how it's spread out pretty wide, with infamous friendly workers. Yesterday was a great experience overall.. I love when they have Roses on special at just $9.99 a dozen. I mean really...where else can one get three dozen beautiful, assorted colored roses for under $30 bux? I'll tell ya---no where! Then, I had a 200 degree Latte from the in-store SB...the barista was a cute hoot! Then, I spied another QT working at the US Bank...nice smile. THEN....walked away with a super tasty turkey, fontina cheese sandwich with avocado, lettuce, tomato, onion and pesto for about $5 bux....AND earned my free sandwich coupon--YAY! Minus a star for the experience outside the Safeway doors. I'm a giving person and generous but this Safeway's front doors--both sides--are notoriously lined with people trying to get you to sign or give something. It's a bit much. Also...the parking stinks! read more

This Safeway has really gone downhill over the years. I have been shopping here for over 20 years and absolutely dread going lately. I try to get my shopping done at other places. They have about 2 lines open at any given time- even during extremely busy hours. Be ready to wait in lines at least 5/6 people long. The workers are not anywhere near as friendly as they use to be. They seem to be overworked here. On Christmas Eve this location closed at 7pm. We showed up at 6:40 with doors locked and exactly SIX workers standing at the doors explaining how they can't check people out by 7pm. Maybe they could if they had 5 of those workers on the registers?? We actually drove to another Safeway and walked in the doors at 6:58 and they let us shop. I'll drive the extra 10 minutes to shop at another location or 15 minutes to shop at Walmart. This place has gotten ridiculous. read more

I've lived in Concord for 16 years, and shopped at this particular Safeway off and on over that time. Its the closest one to my house, and the most 'convenient' of all the grocery stores near me, and the people who work there are decent for the most part, but that's all it has going for it. I don't know what it is about this place, but every time I decide "Oh, I'll step in there for a few moments so I don't have to drive all the way to the one on Treat & Clayton" I end up regretting that decision. Like today, I stopped in for a few items, almost got run over by one of the clerks pushing a shopping cart at full speed. WTF, dude? The aisles are rather cramped, barely enough room to squeeze by another cart. While the people that work there are usually friendly enough, there's a strange vibe in that place. Makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up sometimes. read more

Manager was so nice. I brought back undercooked rotisserie chicken, and the chicken was refunded and replaced! Excellent customer service!

My main problem with safeway is that they need to have more aware staff and most importantly are actually pretty expensive! Love this specific safeway for their female staff, very awake. Also I recommend that everyone check out the 50% discount section, sometimes you find something.g amazing ok by there!!! read more

Always heard about this being the worst grocery store in the area, and while it's hard to say that for sure, I can say with confidence that I will no longer be shopping here. Lots of crime in the parking lot over the years, very lax security in general. Fruit is often already bad in the store, and you have to see customer service to buy contraceptives like it's the 1950's, as they keep it all under lock and key. Recently even saw employees on Christmas Eve yelling at customers in the parking lot to "go away!" when they decided to close the store [30 minutes] earlier than the posted holiday hours, literally yelling "it's not our fault you waited until the last minute!"... Classy, right? Over the last two years I've also overheard a few very loud arguments in the upstairs employee area (and by loud I mean everything from yelling to large object being thrown) and management always seems stressed out and annoyed. Trust me, go to another store if you can, it's worth it. read more

Thanks to Julie in the bakery 4 turning a bad customer service experience into a great 1. I had called into ask about a company logo edible print onto a cake for 40-50 people & the employee was curt, non-informative & told me to call back, which is not how customer service works in my world. I left a message for the bakery manager to call me back. Still annoyed by the phone conversation the day before, I called again to tell them about my unfortunate experience. I spoke with Julie & she arranged everything perfectly for my upcoming party, apologizing profusely for my previous interaction with the bakery. I look forward to seeing the finished product. Thank you, Julie! read more

I went after work around midnight, out of my way to this store since Pittsburg's Safeway closes early. I was unsatisfied with the clerk's service, Debra was the name. Apparently she was almost off work because she was trying to hurry up in checking out my groceries. I felt like she ignored me since I look young and gave everyone else attention. She interacted with the customer before me but once i was next I received no greeting or smile. She then told the customer who would be after me that she was almost off. Its like I didn't even exist. Once she switched with the other coworker Debra began to finish bagging my items forgetting a drink I purchased, luckily I seen that. I didnt receive any eye contact or goodbye when she finished. Thanks for great customer service. read more

Usually Safeways are a scary place but this was not too bad. Got in and out with the chips and dip needed for a party. Customer service was decent enough (hey I got a compliment on my dip and chip combination). read more

This review is for the gentleman named Rudy at the deli. Super friendly and exceptional customer service. He made our sandwiches just the way we wanted and was all about making the customer happy. We used to come get our sandwiches from here all the time but stopped going when we were told " we can't make your sandwich that way" on one particular occasion. Today we happen to drive by Safeway in need of a cake and thought " let me stop by the deli and see if they can make me MY sandwich". One I used to specifically come in here for. This is when I met Rudy for the first time and when I told him what I was looking for, no hesitation. "I'll make you whatever you like. It's called build your own" Awesome! Got my sandwich I grew up getting here for years and now I can enjoy it again for the first time in a really long time! Thanks Rudy. If you get a chance, have Rudy make your next deli sandwich, he'll definitely take care of you. read more

You know, this place isn't that bad. The area it's in isn't very appealing and I am always hesitant to come here after the gym but I had to buy some fish so I stopped by. The parking lot looked pretty bare but people started to slowly arrive as soon as I started walking inside. The inside is a LOT nicer than I expected. Definitely a 'don't judge a book by its cover' situation which I was relieved by. The inside is pretty inviting, good lighting throughout the building. I got what I needed and they have a self check out area, yay ! Overall good experience, I'll definitely be coming back now :) read more

Pricey but great Quality. I can get prescriptions and DMV stuff here. Starbucks is inside.

The worst Safeway ever!! Never enough checkers.. NEVER!! Shoplifting is outrageous and no one does anything. I have seen at least 20 different people shoplift entire shopping carts of items. Employees just shrug it off. Security is absolutely useless. So disappointing when I have to pay hundred a week. I always feel unsafe in the parking lot. I have complained for years and I have had zero response from corporate. This place is a disgrace to concord. Yes I can go somewhere else but Safeway sucks everywhere. When are they going to take control? Employees complain constantly. read more

I'm not really sure why people have had so many bad experiences. B -- S -- Conveniently located close to BART & near the beginning of Clayton -- Pretty big store -- I've always met friendly staff -- Gets busy because of it's location -- Deli is decent, they do have Chinese food -- Always people outside asking for money, donations, etc -- Get a Safeway club card (I just enter my phone #) -- Has new self check-out stations -- Starbucks & US Bank inside This is my favorite Safeway because of it's location and because it's bigger than the one further down Clayton Rd and is not as far as the one at clayton & ygnacio. Quality seems to be hit or miss, I mean it's a grocery store. I wouldn't say the quality is the same as Whole Foods or Trader Joe's but I am noticing a lot of organic items being around. There are somethings at Safeway that are cheaper than other places, but it just depends. read more

This is the first time I've been at this location. It's a modern looking Safeway. Close to BART tracks and newer housing communities. The store is pretty big and it was clean. No problems with shopping or my check out experience. read more

It will take me a moment to make this safeway my new primary grocery store but it will do fine. The staff is friendly and helpful. While in the dairy section i was asked if i found everything alright. Conversationally i replied that i had trouble locating limes thinking that would be the end of it since we where on the oppostie side of the store from produce. To my suprise the employee said no problem and took off like Oscar Pistorios and in no time was back with the limes. It's service like that which will make me a returning shopper. read more

Trying to stay home and away from others as much as possible. Dropped by the Safeway by work, totally absent minded, left my cash in the self checkout. I remembered just as I reached the parking lot, turned around and found staff yelling to security to go get me! Wow! Thank you! read more

Hello, deaf ears complaint. Safeway, you're the worst. Your hardworking employees deserve better. Your bullshit self checkout POS sucks. You should invest in a better system. But you won't. So your poor employees and sucker customers will suffer. And you will do nothing. Just wanted to give a big F YOU to the bigwigs who couldn't care less. And a thank you to the employees who tried so hard and eventually made things right. read more

Just bought obviously contaminated food from this location. It looks as though somebody tore off part of the safety seal and injected something into the food. Try to contact the store no answer, beginning to question if I shop at Safeway anymore read more

A Safeway near BART is not bad. I hate that the BART tracks is above this location. Had BART POOP on the hood on my car. SUGGESTION: park as far away from the tracks. It is hard to get to this location. It is similar to the Contra Costa Blvd location. read more

This review is in reference to the Starbucks. I have been to many Starbucks within Safeway. I am a frequent flyer at the Safeway on Contra Costa Blvd. This particular Starbucks for this location moves EXTREMELY slow! The line is always extremely long (a good 8-9 people). I just purchased a tall coffee in a grande cup, but was charged for a grande coffee verses a tall coffee. As I was putting creamer in my coffee, the cashier (Tina)says, "Ma'am this is your change" as she is handing my change, I went to extend my arm so that she can place my change in my arm, but as I extended my arm, the cashier (Tina) placed my change on the counter. Why the hell would you do that? Such a moron move! This is the SECOND time this has happened. Customer Service 101: When a customer extends their arm, with an open palm to receive their change, place change in their hands and NOT on the counter!!!!!!!! My cashier this morning was Tina! None the less, I will NOT be comimg back to this Safeway due to their inconsistencies!!!!!!!! read more

Employees are stellar here. They have to be... because this is The Weirdest Safeway in the World. I worked here in High School and come to know the weirdness on a deeper level. Folks walking in and telling me that they could feel electricity coming through the floor and into their feet... but only after 11pm. Folks taking donuts right off the shelf and devouring them without paying.. then saying something very quietly about Satan while they shuffled out. They've got everything you need to live... and the late night characters to help you appreciate the fact that you do. read more

Really really bad. I go to the Safeway deli a lot because I like their deli sandwiches, they are fresher and bigger than Subway. Well today was literally the worst Safeway sandwich I've ever had. After I waited for quite a bit, a reluctant girl named Destiny came by and asked what I wanted. I told her and she started making my sandwich. She asked if I wanted sauce on both sides of the bread, I said yes, she slathered the bread with sauce. So much so I couldn't eat the bread when I got home. She put two thin slices of turkey on my sandwich, not the normal portion, and two slices of bacon. In the middle of making my sandwich she stopped to ring up another customer. There was some kind of register issue that she had to call a supervisor to help with, all while my sandwich is sitting half-done. So I waited the five more minutes or so for her to finish my sandwich. I had to remind her three times that my sandwich came with cheese, until she gave me ONE piece that she tore in half, to go with the one piece of lettuce she put on torn in half. I have had this sandwich multiple times at multiple safeways and I know what it should be. I considered not buying it because I knew it would be awful and I shouldn't have in hindsight. No matter where you work take pride in what you do and the product you are serving a customer. Absolutely awful all around. Wish I could give zero stars. PS I am a restaurant manager, I'd fire my employee if they acted like she did. Train your people. read more

Ehhh... It's Safeway. What can I say. Part of the missing stars is the location/parking lot/random customers. I know it's hard to rate a place on the traffic it brings but what can I say it sets the scene. Checkers are nice! Lines get long on Sunday's and Mondays and holidays! Ha. The store has a lot of stuff. It's nice the amount of items they have. The place is close to my house. Its convenient and It's fine if you lock your doors and ignore the non sense. Don't forget to lock the doors! No Wells Fargo inside its A different bank. There is a Starbucks. read more

Today is officially the last day I will EVER get Chinese food from Safeway. They changed the Chinese food to self serve and the cost is $7.99/pound. I got what I would normally buy and it cost me $11.43. That is way more than what I use to pay for it at Safeway. For that price I will get in my car and drive to a decent Chinese restaurant. Not to mention the lady that was hovering over the food picked something off of my plate saying "Oh I'm sorry that shouldn't have been on your plate" Overpriced and contaminated Chinese food. No thanks! Don't be surprised if you start seeing a lot of people leaving their Chinese food containers behind once they realize how much they have to pay for subpar food. read more

I was unaware that one SAFEWAY (or any supermarket for that manner) could, or would need to have three(3) different sections or areas of bananas; this SAFEWAY in fact does. Other than that...not too special or different from other Safeway supermarkets I reckon. Oh wait...BEN & JERRY'S CHUBBY HUBBY is here; a rarity in many other places but apparently Walnut Creek SAFEWAY stores seem to have the flavor by the loads. Great. This fact along makes this SAFEWAY worth checking out if you are in the area. read more

WOW on this rainy day(Sunday, Jan 8, 2017 around 2pm) it's nice to know there are people out there with patiences who care! The employees at this store are amazing! I accidentally left my wallet in the cart when I was unloading my groceries. I didn't realize until I got home and of course started freaking out. I figured it was a lost cause, but I drove back to the store to check if it was still there. I didn't see it in any of the carts outside so I went in to ask. The manager said that one of the employees found it and immediately turned it in. I asked if I could leave a reward to thank the person, but the manager said no. I was so impressed by how nice and considerate everyone at this store is. This is definitely where I'll be doing all of my grocery shopping going forward. read more

I too, similar to other fellow yelpers on this review, do most of my shopping late at night. My experience with the night crew have been very pleasant, no complains theres. my only complains are, the produce are overpriced and not too fresh. (I usually do my produce shopping from the Monument shop), and the shopping carts could be on the gross side. the men's restroom could also use a bit more attention, but no big deal. Rosa Lee is so sweet. I bought a cake at the bakery and soon after realized that it would be too small for my party. I went to return it but was worried that they wouldn't take it back. Well, to my surprise - not only did they take it back, but they let me pick out the bigger cake (that was only $1.00 more) and gave it to me without making me pay the $1.00 cost difference. It was just a dollar, but it was really the principle of making customers happy that was so impressively followed. The bakery staff to the customer service was stellar and greatly appreciated! Lastly, my party guests loved the cake, it was the raspberry/white cake and absolutely delicious. Thanks again Safeway! read more

Safeway - Grocery Near Me - Concord, California

I'm the weird one that likes to go grocery shopping at 5am, before the stores are crowded and the items I want are in stock. This Safeway is open 24 hours so when insomnia kicks in and I know I need food, why sit around and waste time? This is one of the stores I come to. Overall the clerks are nice, but one clerk (who shall remain nameless and description-less) had the nerve to swipe my $20.00 bill with a bill marker - WTF? I shop here all the time, and you didn't do this to the person in front of me. Jealously is such a bad disease... One of my banks is here (US Bank) so that adds another star. read more

We have been living in California for a little over 2 years and a 1/2 years and have been regulars at 2 safeways and this by far is my favorite. I have always had the nicest and friendliest cashiers and baggers. Any time I have needed help looking for something the staff here has always been helpful and courteous. Last night I had an amazing customer service experience. I had to run in for milk and at the check out my cashier was the manager or assistant manager (I can't remember which right now). He was extremely friendly and made conversation that felt genuine and not forced. read more
