I don't usually write reviews, but after this experience I felt like I had to. I went to this Safeway to buy Orajel for pain relief because I've been dealing with a painful cut on my tongue that was healing slowly. The pain had gotten pretty bad. When I got to the shelf, the product was missing except for a sign that said, "Limited shelf stock, please see customer service." I went to the guest service area and waited patiently since nobody was there. After a few minutes, a woman came out of the office and asked, "Did you need something?" I explained that I was looking for Orajel and the sign directed me there. She responded by saying, "Oh no, this area is closed." Confused, I asked if she could still help me. She said no because she had the safe open in the office and told me I'd have to go to customer service, then went back into the office and shut the door. At that point, I was honestly stunned. I asked another employee nearby taking out the trash where customer service was, and he smirked and said, "That right there," pointing to where I was already standing. Normally I wouldn't make a big deal out of something like this, but I was in a lot of pain and felt like I was just getting the runaround. Thankfully, my girlfriend noticed the Orajel was actually locked behind the counter. Then an employee named Willy, who was working one of the registers, called out and asked if I needed help. Willy came over immediately, helped locate the product, logged into customer service himself, and tried to unlock the case.. but then the key actually broke off in the lock. At that point I was thinking, "You can't make this stuff up." Even after that, Willy still went above and beyond. He used a grabber tool to retrieve the product from the locked case, rang us up, and completely turned the situation around. I'm writing this review because Willy gave me some of the best customer service I've had in a long time after one of the most frustrating experiences I've had at a store. Huge shoutout to Willy! He's the only reason I'd come back to this location. read more

Came with my kid late night to get necessities, I was in self-checkout and next when the cashier told me it was closed. We go to the line. We're 4th and the cashier looked new and painfully timid. She was scanning each item and instead of sliding it down to the bagging area was carefully setting each item. I get the idea behind it but it wasn't realistic. I asked another associate if they could call more checkers and he said no. I wish I could remember his name because he said no, I waited 15 minutes only for them to open two lines, Mr. No being one of the people who started checking. You're supposed to take the next person in line and the ppl behind me dispersed like flies. The courtesy is gone these days amongst people, but it was Safeway's job to take the next person in line & not have employees deceive like that. Ms. Timid called for a Service 1(all available checkers to come) a few minutes after I asked. It frustrating to be lied to your face and to wait only for the people behind me to hop in line for two minutes but get checked out before us. read more

This review is only for the bakery department, we have been coming here for years and stopped recently because we found the Pleasant Hill Safeway Bakery was way better than this location. We have tried countless times to get some fresh baked goods during our cheat weekends but after this last weekend I just gave up. They rarely have fresh baked goods and when they do the custard is cracking and hard. Half the time the containers are not even half way full but yet they are charging full price. I hate leaving bad reviews but sheesh put a little more effort in the fresh baked desserts since customers are paying a good amount for some sweets. Here is a photo of their version of a tres leche, if you go to the Pleasant Hill location they fill it to the top so you are always getting your money's worth. read more

Shop there a couple of times per week. Get my basics there but more and more I shop at Trader Joe's, Sam's and Costco, mainly due to prices. Example: unbleached flour is literally half of the Safeway price at Trader Joe's. People are nice and the pharmacy is quite good. The ambience is pretty basic but parking is good. I don't like their app because they're constantly pushing toward online ordering. If I add an item, it does not go to my clipped item list but to the delivery list. I also find a couple of times a month that the actual price is wrong so I have to go and get a refund. The store tags do not keep up with the prices in the app. Also, I regularly get a service problem with the app when I'm on the store Wi-Fi. One of the checkers told me to turn off the Wi-Fi and that has worked well. But too many problems to say it's a great experience. read more

I think this is one of the worst Safeways I've ever shopped at. The employees are really unprofessional. Often times using really inappropriate language and not even working. I once had to wait 10 minutes for help at self check out because the employees were all giggling about something with each other. I bought a box of crackers and just saw they've been expired for over a month. They also advertised a raffle to occur at a specific time. I showed up early, stayed well beyond the time for the raffle, and they actually didn't do it at all. Meaning they don't even follow the advertisements they put out. When I asked someone from the store why, they just shrugged and said they didn't know. The unprofessional demeanor of everyone working there, frequent out of stock, and overall disorganized just makes for a really bad shopping experience. They also have very few cashiers during peak hours, so there's a long line for the 1 cashier on shift and the self check out. Honestly, I'm about to go further just to shop at another grocery rather than keep up with this. I hope this place closes and gets replaced with something like a grocery outlet, TJs, or Whole Foods. At least the employees are professional there and those stores are cleaned and well organized. read more

The out of stocks are terrible . I never go for huge shopping trips anymore, but even so, I am always looking at 2-4 out of stocks .

This is my local Safeway. My local grocery store. But ever since they started construction across the street it's gotten so bad. The workers all park in the parking lot and take up multiple spaces with their terrible parking. The parking lot is full of trash. The construction workers meander around the lot and just hang out, but their car doors are open and it makes it harder to park. I will gladly go to the Safeway on Contra Costa. This has become the "bad" Safeway. Clearly they bring in business because the workers eat here for lunch, but when constructions being done and management doesn't care enough about their local patrons. The ones that will stay when the work across the street is done. Then clearly they don't want neighborhood business. read more

This review is regarding the I'll tempered security guard who tried to intimidate me while I was waiting in line during a computer reset around 1am. I was irritated about waiting 15 minutes to get checked out. I made a sarcastic comment about a customer who just walked out without paying for an item and the security guard walked all the way over to me and confronted me. He informed me that he's got 25 years security guard experience, and he works in Oakland and San Francisco. Then says he also fights people at the stores he works at. I believe that this guard was also armed, and did not have to escalate things into a potential confrontation. I'm not an inmate. I'm a customer. It's a usual, normal Safeway but check your eggs (and probably other merchandise). When I came in, the dozen eggs were sold out at about 10 dollars per carton, so I had to buy a large carton. Normally I'd check for a broken egg or two but I was in a rush. I finally open the carton to cook breakfast this morning and I have half a carton. More than likely, someone stole some of the eggs because the extra large cartons were priced at about 12-14 dollars. I was at Safeway Grocery Store at Willow Pass Road and they had an Employee standing at the End of Self Checkout making sure you scan everything and Not Cheat. This Safeway was just fine. I didn't particularly like the location of it or the size of its parking lot which to me was a bit smaller than the other Safeway stores in the area, making the parking lot slightly more full than others. But I never had a bad experience at this location. The goal of my visit was to get their cake slices which I saw on their weekly ad were on sale last week - because I was craving for some. And the products in this store were stocked up well, so I had plenty of cakes (of different flavors too) to choose from which I liked. I got a red velvet and a marble cake. And yes they satisfied my cake craving just fine. So no complaints from me about this Safeway store. Will definitely visit this store again if I happen to be in the area. read more

Personally, I consider eating organic food to be very important so don't usually focus my shopping at Safeway, but this location is close to my house, so I've ended up going here quite a bit. I've seen that they have tons of organic produce, and generally have organic options for the packaged items too. One of the main reasons I frequent this store is for their fresh sushi. Their deli makes sushi daily, and they'll even make something for you on the spot if they don't already have it out. I really appreciate that. read more

This Safeway is decent and has a good selection, but if there is a sale going on for wet cat food, be careful at any Safeway, because I am not always given the sale prices when wet cat food is on sale. If you try to do returns, you don't get all of your money back, you only get most of your money back. In addition, I think the security does their best, but I Think at nighttime, I think only one side of doors should be left unlocked to lesson the chance of theft. read more

If I could do zero stars, I would I went to the deli. No one was in line I stood in front of the Deli Case to order a sandwich. The girl told me I'll be right with you in a minute walked off went to go do something in the back came back out how can I help you told I want to order a sandwich and she tells me you have to get in line but I looked at the line all of a sudden there was 12 people in line and when I walked up waiting for her there was no one in line. Came in on my lunch break, and got a breakfast burrito, and while waiting in a short line it still felt like it took forever. Then when the lady was making my burrito she grabbed all the ingredients that seemed not cooked, however I figured they'd warm it up in the oven. Well she did which was only 1 minute and the burrito was a little warm. So I took my burrito back to work and had to heat it up longer. When I went to eat the burrito it was bland, way to full of stuff and just wasn't good. I was so hungry I just scarfed it down. Furthermore, two years later I got so sick. My tummy hurt and I didn't eat anything else. My stomach hurt for hours! I wouldn't ever order food from this deli again. I am very surprised they do not up keep the deli department. My stomach still hurts so bad and bathroom is my best friend! Do not eat deli or foods at this Safeway in that department! Plus the lady making sandwich wasn't that friendly and she was serious the whole time. Last week I ordered a cake for my daughters birthday & it came out so cute! I went in a week before her birthday party & placed the order. The lady who helped me was really helpful. We chose a white cake w/ buttercream frosting & fresh strawberries. I picked out an animal design that went along with her theme. The cake was so good! Everyone at the party loved it. It wasn't super sweet which is what I hate about birthday cake. It was just the right amount. We will definitely be ordering all of our future birthday cakes from here! read more

This rating is for the customer service desk. The young man and woman are extremely rude and inconsiderate. They don't take you seriously if you report a problem and if you ask for help. They basically disregard you and talk down to you. It honestly feels like customer service is run by careless teenagers. We all know Safeway is more expensive than most grocery stores. I've always thought the reason why that is, was because the customer service would be better, like at least I would talk to someone who would care. But I was wrong. Customer service is full of sarcastic, mean, careless people, who act like they have such high authority. I wouldn't mind paying extra for some thoughtfulness, but you don't get that at all.
