The food was good. The customer service was good. The ambience was grocery store so not expecting much. This location is in a lower income neighborhood but blocks from a higher income neighborhood but the vibe you get is definitely lower income. The parking lot is dirty. 3 stars is a stretch, only because i have to rate it slightly higher than the 148th location. This 128th and 1st ave safeway has LESS selection in bakery, deli, and produce than the 148th Safeway has. However, the good aren't locked up, the parking lot is easy and decent, and they usually have a few clerks in addition to self checkout. It's decently clean. & sometimes the clerks smile. Side note, just weeks ago i witnessed a purse snatch and run on a woman right at the front door. Man hopped out the car, got her purse, drove off, all within 10 feet in front of me. Pathetic Pathetic! It's truly disturbing to the point where I refuse to return to this particular Safeway. Yesterday I pulled into the lot and waited for another disabled patron to load her groceries. As she pulled out this young African American girl cut me off and took the spot. I honked my horn to motion I'd been waiting for the spot, she withdrew and pulled into another disabled parking spot. When she got out of her car I realized she was a security officer for the store, fully abled and in uniform. Allied universal officer. She had no placards or license plate indicating her authorization to park there...just lazy I guess‍ I went into the store and spoke with a couple managers and they 'said' they'd take care of it but they went on with their joking. I returned to the store again today and she was again parked in a disabled spot. As I'm walking through the store I overheard snickering from said officer saying something like "There are 6 spots out there, what's the big deal?" The big deal is she's not physically disabled and too lazy or too hot for her hair to walk across the parking lot. She's supposed to be there to enforce the rules for the customer, not break them herself! The managers that laughed it off yesterday are millennial dumbasses...I'm fairly certain the officer is a millennial also. Where's the work ethic?! read more

The problems Burien Safeway has is unlikely due to the location, as the Fred Meyer just down the road always has stock, always has cashiers open, and appears well staffed. It's really amazing that there is NO enforcement on mask wearing at this store! On 1st ave s outwest Burien, WA The last couple times I went there, today namely, guy walks in with mask in pocket. I reminded him by pointing to mine and he shook his head! Like no. I said it protects you too! He mumbled something and ignored me. Another guy nearby not wearing mask a minute later who was already shopping he said no I'm not wearing one, when I asked why not. I dropped my couple items off on a shelf and went to customer service and the lady at that counter was wearing mask wrong not over nose. She said yes they enforce but they don't and I'm not shopping there anymore even though it's nearby. Trader Joe's! Next review, I love their enforcement and limiting how many shoppers. I must say that this grocery store, formerly an Albertsons and then a Haggen, has truly become a part of the neighborhood. Sure the check out stands are always packed with long lines, and the fact that there is a security guard at the entrance gives me a strange vibe, but these people really do care! I needed a prescription filled asap after finding that my former pharmacy didn't work with my new insurance. I tried Bartell's and they wouldn't fill it because they didn't like the wording on the prescription. I finally came to Safeway and they were able to work with my insurance to get me the meds quickly. The next time I went in, the pharmacist REMEMBERED my name and exact prescription! Even more amazing, he had it filled in UNDER ten minutes! It's a tiny little pharmacy but they sure are efficient! Another reason this grocery store is amazing is because they stock expensive items that people need, like hypoallergenic formula. This is the only grocery store we've found that stocks enough Nutramigen to buy a months supply all at once. Not even Target can do that! They do it because they know people who use WIC can't buy it unless they buy 8 cans all at once. It's the little things that makes this grocery store amazing!!! I can't neglect to mention that the parking spots here are HUGE! I love not having to worry about that. One final tip: if the lines at checkout are crazy long, give it 15 minutes and then there won't be a line anymore. read more

I understand staffing can be challenging, but it seems this particular store experiences more difficulty staying staffed up then any other grocery store in the area. Customer Service is rarely staffed. I see maybe 3 lanes opened at a time when visiting. Signage is posted asking patrons to be understanding due to poor staffing. Carts are rarely collected. When I call in an rx for a patient, don't laugh at me and ask why I'm not faxing it. I didn't want to fax it. That's why I'm calling. It's likely that you don't carry the specific medication, thus making YOUR job harder because you'll have to call me back to get verification to see if we can change it. We can't. Normally I don't go to this Safeway because Fred Meyers has better deals. However I occasionally go here because they are open to midnight. Or at least they are supposed to be open that late. Called 2 times to check it I'd left my wallet there the other night, customer service never picks up and it just hangs up on me after 5 minutes. One night the security guard accuses me of not paying for all my items and the managers tries to sneaky come out and act like they're putting carts away and as I'm saying thank you and goodnight peaks into my bags and goes on he said you didn't pay for those ice creams. I show her the receipt that I had and was honestly pretty offended. She didn't offer much of an apology and just says oh I'll talk to him. When I'd showed up there were two guys fighting in the parking lot but glad your security guy had his priorities straight. The parking lot is filled with drug dealing traffic and just the sketchiest people around. The only good thing I can say is they carry my flavor of Ben and Jerry's and their clearance area has some decent deals, and it's less sketchy than the one down the street. read more

The location to start is kind of small compared to competitors and even other Safeways. The location is so small it doesn't even have a self checkout! This causes huge lines that take up most of the aisle ways because they seem to have no staff! It does feature a Starbucks inside but they tend to close before their posted times so be aware of that. The produce section is pretty nice and I haven't come across any bad fruit. The bakery section definitely could be bigger, maybe even take over some of the floral department. If it wasn't so close I wouldn't use them at all though because of the awful waiting at checkout. There are other stores further down the road that will probably be less of a headache unless I don't want to go far and I'm not in a hurry! read more

There are two Safeways on the 1st Ave corridor, stupidly close to each other, and in my household this one is referred to as the "bad Safeway." This is based on two factors: the bakery is DISMAL, and the checkout lanes are bizarrely close to the shopping area. Any checkout line longer than 2 people deep begins to encroach into the aisles, it's truly awful. That said, the area to the north (Beverly Park/Top Hat) might be something of a food desert without it, so I'm glad it's there. read more

I came to shop here on the day before Thanksgiving. This place had me in and out so fast. The customer service is great, and they were in supply of almost everything I needed. I got all my groceries checked off just by here. I live in Renton, but I drive here when I need to make sure I'm getting everything I need in one stop. The better of the 2 Safeway stores in Burien, this Safeway seems to be more organized, they have a much better bakery in terms of donuts and cake, not much negative except no self-check which they used to have ,but moved flowers in that area instead. One complaint is a Safeway overall business decision is to allow Pepsi to cost them money, if any Pepsi product is not stocked they are not allowed to stock them, only the Pepsi Vendor.
