I choose to shop at Safeway. I'm not stealing. I'm not vandalizing. I'm a paying customer -- and I live with Multiple Sclerosis. So please explain to me how it's acceptable to charge customers for grocery bags and deny restroom access, forcing someone with a neurological condition into an impossible situation: either urinate in the parking lot and risk civil consequences or humiliate myself by having an accident. That is not customer service. That is not dignity. That is not accessibility. If the concern is theft and vandalism, let's be honest about the problem. Having two security guards camped at the front door checking receipts clearly isn't solving it. Meanwhile, legitimate customers -- including disabled customers -- are punished instead. I shouldn't have to disclose a medical condition or beg for basic human needs just to buy groceries. The ADA exists for a reason, and so does basic human decency. This store has two entrances but only uses one, with two security guards posted at the front door. If theft and vandalism are the concern, this approach clearly isn't working. Instead, legitimate customers -- including disabled customers -- are being punished. Safeway, do better. Right now, you're choosing not to. read more

Secret shoppers follow you. My favorite is they take your picture if you show them the receipt but don't hand it to them... like tonight. Horrible service and lines. Food is outdated so make sure to watch expiration dates. The isle are dirty and empty end caps. My favorite is seeing a roof rat in produce department by floral while entering. Obviously it's by the bus station so you know it's pretty hard to beat the location I mean in they let me charge my scooter so I need to give him at least three stars and my only complaint is that their price has seen it you know absorbently high like I feel like they should encourage people to eat salad more and with the price is it's not it's not helpful so the food is good I mean usually the services well it's hit and miss and the ambience wants a grocery store I mean people don't say oh well this grocery store has nice design usually not. read more

Often times there are no checkout clerks and self checkout is the ONLY option. Lines long. This location on 148th is BETTER for produce, deli, and bakery, however the parking lot is WORSE (than 128th safeway a mile away) and the theft is plentiful. It really sucks paying $200 for a cart of overpriced goods and watching folks walk out the front door with ANYTHING they want almost ANY time im at this location. I'm from the Los Angeles area but grew up in Nor Cal in the 60's so when we are on vacation I tend to go to Safeway. I guess this does not have as much to do with Safeway and more with the environment but the last 2 times I visited first in Sacramento was nuts. You could not even take your cart to your car. No idea how people can shop like that and beer and liquor were locked up. We visited one in the Seattle area and I swear even the ice cream was locked up. I asked one of the workers about it and they just laughed and said people were stealing ice cream all the time. I do think that Safeway could provide way more security at all the doors and inside the store to stop this nonsense and take all the locks off stuff. Was having my Toyota serviced at Burien Toyota and needed to kill some time so I decided to walk a few blocks up and over to the Safeway. It was raining a bit and when I got to Safeway and I seriously needed a potty break. After trying to buy a muffin at the local Starbucks and waiting an inordinate amount of time (the customer in front of me ordered a frappacino and the server asked her "how do you make that") I left in search of the restroom. After several laps around the store and not seeing an obvious area for a restroom I waited in a short line and asked the clerk where it was. Went at 730 pm on 4/15/2023 only one door was unlocked and after we shopped there was only self checkout open at the other end of the unlocked doors at this Safeway but that wouldn't be a problem for someone that's not disabled like me luckily there was 1 electric scooter at the door but we get into self checkout and Melissa was standing by the self checkout texting on her phone good thing I had someone to assist me already because then her and a male employee were conversating about the employee that was getting to return late from there break then complaints about being a p.i.c. then she told the male employee his break was next and he said he didn't want to so she told him take 15 now and 15 minutes later so he didn't have clock out I don't know if I'll return to this Safeway read more

Always an unpleasant experience recently. They seem to be having some serious stocking issues with lots of empty shelves all the time. The isles are filled with large carts for to-go pick up orders making it so you cant go through aisles. The cashiers are elderly, rather slow, and talk to their friends with a line waiting, showing them pictures on their phones while talking about the holidays until you ask them to check you out. There are homeless sleeping on all the sidewalks, panhandling, and walking around in the parking lot with their pants off screaming. People drink by the bench, piss everywhere. There is filth all over, trash, feces, milk thrown on the walls, broken glass. read more

This store's location is very convenient for certain items considering where we live in Gregory Heights. We've found most of the employees to be nice but this store is not safe after dark. Last winter I was there at about 9 pm and while the checker was ringing me up, a man with mental problems began screaming obscenities at her and making threats of harm towards her. Surprisingly, she took it all in stride and didn't seem too bothered. I asked her if that was normal and she said yes. Personally, I would not let my loved one work at a place like that because it felt like things could have turned violent at any moment. I asked my wife and daughter and her family to no longer shop there after dark and they agreed. Too bad because I've been patronizing this store for over 40 years when they were in their old building and I try to support local businesses as much as possible. They do an okay job of stocking the store but the prices are high and they are a bit understaffed with long lines. The pharmacy is terrible I recently had to get a antibiotic cream for a rash that itched so bad it was keeping me up at night. They didn't understand the doctors perscription and were asking me questions like what will this be used for how much of it do you need? I told them I'm not a medical expert I can't be answering these questions if you were confused why didn't you call the doctor to get clarification? This made them angry, they wouldn't contact the doctor even after I said they needed to contact the doctor multiple times. I had a week of having to go to work really tired because I wasn't sleeping much at night at which point I finally gave up on them and had a different pharmacy fill my perscription. read more

After numerous failed attempts to get something in the deli in under fifteen minutes (not during a rush), I gave up completely. I haven't seen it properly staffed in the approximately ten times that I've gone there. The staff that is there doesn't look like they have been trained on proper customer service. There is no acknowledgement that I am there or that I'm waiting or that I've been waiting. Lack of eye contact is intentional. It's amazing that Safeway continues to blatantly support discrimination, especially today. I am Deaf. I asked two different staff for help today, while a third looked on, then walked away, while both angrily yelled at me. Neither offered pencil/paper, neither would let me lipread them. In fact, your Starbucks staffer pointedly turned her back on me when I said I couldn't understand her. But I certainly could hear her rage and her volume. When discussing which Safeway on the 1st Ave corridor to visit, this is the "good Safeway." The actual inside of the place is large and mostly well-stocked, especially the bakery and produce. There's a weird area near the front door though where the aisles don't line up and it's very irritating during the busy hours. Also the seasonal aisle is almost past the checkout lanes and the self-checkout area is too close to Starbucks and the aisles so if there's a line, enjoy standing in the cat litter aisle and having to alert each person who walks up that you are in line. Every Safeway in existence basically needs about 30% more space in the checkout area. The previous reviews are not wrong about the parking lot situation. It's almost like a bowl and everybody who decides to drive into it is in a demolition derby until they find a parking space. Good luck. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I started working at this location as an cashier clerk, I worked there for two weeks and in those two weeks I was appalled what I saw from an company how they talk about customers and each other they're horrible to their employees unless you've been there for years, they did not train me & whenever I would ask them for help they would give me attitude. Whenever I would talk to an manager about Debbie the front end manager giving me attitude they told me to stick up for myself or they will walk over me.. This location is very racist when it comes to customers and how they talk to customers I've said something to management and nothing has ever changed. The people that work there are always complaining about working and always so rude to customers. I wouldn't work or shop at this location. read more

Not only was the lady still open till 9, she asked my name and what I wanted and she held onto a pound of strips for me. She went above and beyond to make sure I got what I was looking for. ....oh! I'm not usually one to make complaints or leave reviews but I had such a terrible experience last night at this location because of Paul, the store manager or whatever his title is. I do Uber Eats delivery and last night at about 11pm I got a shopping order for this store. It was 71 items. (To preface this, I want to mention Uber doesn't show the store hours of restaurants or stores.) I walk in, grab a cart and start shopping. There were multiple items that were out of stock so I had to send different options to the customer and wait for them to respond. It's understandable that some things would be missing since its later in the night. Another side note: i'm used to safeway closing at 1am, I live in Puyallup and almost never frequent Burien. At about 11:30 they started making announcements that the store will be closing. I started to panic a bit and rushing a bit more, but like I mentioned previously items were out and I had to wait on a response from the customer. At about 12 exactly one of the cashiers stopped me and let me know about the store closing. I explained to her the situation and that I currently had 31 out of 71 items. She was super nice and understanding, she said I'd have to talk with Paul. We headed in his direction and she started explaining the situation to him. I had told him I was about half way through with the order, he then went on to essentially berate me saying "Well isn't it your responsibility to know the times of the stores you're shopping at and how long orders will take you?" I told him "I mean yeah but I'm just used to safeway closing at 1am so I honestly just didn't think to check" still with attitude he replied "welllll its been this way for a year sooo." I simply let him know I'm not from Burien and live in Puyallup. He repeated that its my job to know the store hours of whatever place I shop at. Now I don't disagree with that point at all, however I didn't appreciate the tone or disrespect. He then goes on telling me to "make it quick because now it's 12:06 and because you can't check times now I'm having to pay allllll these people for an extra 5 minutes" I told him I can just cash out what I already have and just let the customer know I wasn't able to fully complete the order before they closed and his response was "and I said make it quick." As if I can make his employees move items across a scanner quicker? So I just let him know I'll cancel the order. He got a bit snarky and said "okay that's totally fine. I don't mind putting it back." We all know Paul didn't put the items back, he had the original lady helping me do it. I left and cried in the car simply because that was the cherry on top of an already bad day. I never had an attitude until he kept speaking disrespectfully, he was rude from the second the cashier took me over there and at the end of the day I'm still a customer and I'm also there to do a job. I was out $40 and the customer who made the order didn't get any of their groceries. This whole situation could've been way better if he wasn't so rude. Clearly based on these reviews Paul is a problem and this store as a whole needs help. It's embarrassing that someone of his age feels the need to disrespect others. I know I could have and should have double checked the hours but it doesn't warrant being spoken down to. read more

This store is OK ...typical Safeway. One afternoon I went in to get 4 chicken tenders with ranch dipping sauce. The chicken tenders are actually pretty good. Anyway, I asked for three ranch dipping sauces the woman working the counter said I'll give you two with a real snotty attitude , like she was doing me a favor by giving me two. The ranch sauces do not last very long because they're the smaller containers. Nice store and clean but the deli counter needs work with their attitude, I understand it can probably be frustrating dealing with all the customers , but you can still be at least pleasant. read more

What I like about Safeway is I'm able to find random childhood faves like the Choco Taco, or current faves from Costco like It's It ice cream (without having to buy it in bulk). Produce is of somewhat better quality than nearby grocers. As far as prices go, closer to upper end in comparison to other grocers. I came in on Christmas Day to buy the ingredients to make my sick husband chicken soup. I was surprised to discover that they were completely out of fresh chicken of any sort. When I got to the cashier with my other items to purchase, I asked just to double confirm if they had chicken in the back or somewhere else. The cashier, who's name is Norma, flipped me such attitude. She Told me three or four times that she couldn't help. Just flat out... Wouldn't help me. She threw up her arms. She asked me if I had been to the meat section to check. And she repeated again and again that she couldn't help me. She wouldn't help me. That's the bottom line. She's a customer service representative and the face of Safeway. Norma was rude. Norma was dismissive. Normal was offensive. Norma was absolutely, incredibly, irresponsibly unhelpful. This experience was made exponentially worse since it was Christmas day. You would expect people to put on a happy face and wish their clients a merry Christmas... and you know, maybe even go the extra mile for them! Safeway, if you're going to hire employees with bad attitudes to work on holidays, or any day for that matter, please be advised that you will lose more customers than just me. I walked out without my groceries and I will never, ever come back. This Safeway is the closest grocery store to our home. For years it has been my "go to" store. But never again. I will now drive out of my way to go somewhere where hopefully they treat clients a little better. read more

This is very conveniently located if you use the transit center, which I do. The staff have been nice enough in my experience as well. The checkout lines are usually too few in number, and long especially during the after work rush. There always seems to be 2-3 self checkout machines not working at all, and when they are they just aren't very good and a time waster instead of a time saver. The selection of not-so-common foods could be better too. There was one occasion where the meat counter was open but the seafood counter was closed early, because (and I quote) "I guess he went home early, sorry I can't help you". There is a good number of homeless people who hang out in the shopping center, and you do get asked for money quite often. It has gotten better in past months. Last summer there was a gang of them living under the little pagoda at the north entrance. So I go to Fred Meyer whenever I can. read more
