Very expensive, the food is never fresh, especially fruits and vegetables- and the coffee! I just bought a large Starbucks Breakfast Blend (cost like $25) and I have to drink this nasty old coffee. It was the last one they had for WEEKS. There is no variety of items. You would think with a store so big, it would have variety, but you just find the same stuff on repeat. You can't even find basic stuff, like certain pasta that is common in most stores. Never mind the "International" aisle. You find a few Indian and Middle Eastern items, and then it's all stuff from Mexico. I wouldn't call Mexico international. They're our neighbor. Polenta, for example, which is common in other stores, they stopped bringing in. And forget telling an associate to order anything for you. Even if you find one, they'll say they'll do it, but they don't. A lot of stuff is marked expired or about to expire as well. There was a jar of mayo that sat there since 2024 and I reported it at least three times in about two months. I had to ultimately remove it and take it up front, because they would just say OK and the following week, it was still on the shelves. The vegetables are old. They are all wilted. No variety either. If you want ground pork, you have to go after 330 PM, b/c the guy that's there earlier is "Seafood", so there's no one to grind pork. And they don't have it from the day before where the meat is. Ground pork isn't caviar. It's just pork. This is just an example. I don't see many of the staff they had, but they have one person yelling over the loudspeaker welcoming you to eat their chicken or whatever. There is no point in that if that's all she does and no one is around to help. Their quality has gone down so much, the place is usually empty of customers. I remember when it used to be full of people. It appears that due to lack of business, they focused on refurbishing the store and letting go of all their help. Oh, I had to get a cream, which wasn't in my case to use on a private area, but someone had recommended it for issues with skin in general. I went up and down those aisles 20 times. I finally asked the pharmacy employee where they had the stuff like Monostat, douches, etc., b/c all they have in the "Personal" section are pads. She told me they are up front. "I can see them from here". Pharmacy is all the way in the back. I turn to look down the aisle, and am confused. Then she tells me that they're under key. So you have to all the way to the front, beyond the check out counters, and look in the cabinets to see if they have it (which of course, they didn't) to get those items. I'm old school, and an older woman. Even if they had it, I don't want to ask employee after employee where that stuff is, and another to hand me this or that from that section. Most of that is for young people, and I was getting it for something else. I get that people might steal, but intimate stuff? You put that under key for people to ask you for it? That's so bizarre! And they don't tell you so you wouldn't even think to look there because it's outside the cash registers. Put up a sign at least. Since I normally don't buy that stuff, I didn't know this was a new thing. This is the closest store to me, but I find myself having to travel 7 or 8 miles if I want normal things at a normal price. Really great pharmacist here today is flu shot day and she's moving and grooving with manning the front as well as doing vaccinations!! Also they got CARTS yeahhhh!!!!!!! The remodel is nice also --just please keep up the stock of carts and handbaskets and I'll be a happy camper cause staff at this store are helpful and the pharmacist knows customers by name that's a nice touch read more

As a resident of the PG area.. we deserve better grocery stores. There is no reason why this Safeway never has produce, fresh produce at that. There are never any hand baskets, there are never any associates around to help unless they randomly walk up on you to tell you that you have too many items for self check out. There's always flies around the produce for one, the produce is all over the floor. They're always lacking in something. As expensive as groceries are... this is unacceptable. read more

My wife has used this Safeway for a number of years. Today was her first bad experience at the store, and maybe the experience was an aberration and the quality of the store and its services will return to normal standards after today, that is if she does return there to shop. The bad experience began in the deli, where she waited for several minutes to make eye contact with the lone associate working there. When he did address her, he scolded her that she hadn't rung the bell to get his attention. Clearing her throat, saying "Hello" and "Excuse me" were apparently unacceptable methods of acquiring his attention. She let him know there was no bell to ring, and he then called to have someone come back to help her, evidently unable to help her himself. She waited ten minutes, and no one showed. The lone associate paid her no more attention. At the register a few minutes later, the cashier was wearing headphones and offered no recognition that my wife was even there, other than to swipe her items. At a minimum, a smile and polite greeting would have been welcome. On my wife's way out, she tried to let the manager know no one had helped her in the deli, but he, too, did not even look up to make eye contact with her, much less acknowledge her verbally. The layers of customer disregard in her experience are, for lack of a better word, simply astounding. What has happened to customer service? She had almost the same experience in a St. Charles Safeway a few years back, and appropriately hasn't returned since. I appreciate everyone has bad moments, but that she was generally or completely disregarded three times in the same visit, I ask to Safeway management: To your mind, is this even remotely acceptable service? read more

Once again, the Brandywine Safeway is lacking in its appeal to be a store I want to continue to shop at. I live right in the beginning of Charles County and this particular location unfortunately is closest & most convenient to me. Yesterday, I ran in to get a few items because I was visiting Joann fabric. After gathering my items, I entered the first register. The gentleman in front of me was telling the young girl at the register how many cases of soda he had as she was not even looking at him because she was so busy texting on her phone! I thought that after she completed the transaction with him, she would at least put the phone down to ring me up, but she did not. This little girl continued texting on her phone while scanning my items. She finally put the phone down & didn't even tell me my total. I guess why do that when I can see that for myself, right? She didn't even make an attempt to put my items in my bag, so I did it myself, which I find happening a lot lately. I wasn't feeling well & just didn't have the strength to address the situation and wanted to get out of the store asap. What is management doing!? As someone who has been in a customer service industry ( the medical field) for ages, at what point is it ok to be texting when you should be assisting customers right in front of you! This store is severely lacking in employees that are customer focused and are obviously not trained appropriately. AND as one other person mentioned, ALWAYS run out of produce! I would think that with all of the new build around and literally behind this location, that they would do some revamping of this location! This store is awful and as much as I hate to have to go out of my way to go farther into Charles county to get decent groceries and better customer service, I will. I work too hard for my dollar and I'm tired as well and if I have to spend my money to purchase items, I'm going to do so where people will at least acknowledge me. The fabric of customer service is not dying...it's dead! Giant and MOMs always has an abundance of fresh produce and I'm acknowledged with a greeting & a smile...at the very least, an acknowledgement! I had even heard a Target employee yesterday say that they had 13 call-outs, there was 1 register open other than self checkout. & even though the cashier didn't smile, she STILL greeted me with a "Hello, how are you?", even though I'm sure she was feeling stressed. Ok Safeway, I need you to do better than this! You knew the snowstorm was coming and I know this is not your first rodeo. I went in around 9pm-ish to purchase a couple of things because I knew I was not leaving the house the next day due to the snowstorm. And no, I did not go to Safeway to purchase snowbound food which I call "BMW". (Bread, Milk, Water) Lol. I needed real goodies along with everyone else, which brings me to why you are receiving a 1-Star! ONE star to represent the ONE cashier you had working! There were two cashiers when I approached the line, however, she told me the person ahead of me was her last customer! I then went to the next cashier and low and behold the lady in front of me had over $400 worth of groceries! This is not an exaggeration! So I have two options, wait patiently or put my things aside and walk out. I opted for patience. The customer behind me had even less items than myself, she had maybe 3 items at best. She was also turned away from the first cashier. However, it gets worse because one minute later, two people walk up to the "closed" cashier, lay their items on the belt, and proceed to pay for their items! Not a peep from the cashier saying she was closed! The customer behind me and myself were not only shocked, but livid! As we started to question this situation, another cashier finally came out to reopen the first line, but the crazy thing was, no one said anything! The replacement cashier didn't say, "I'm open...whose the next customer in line?" She just opened her register and waited until some customers saw her and decided to take their chance by walking up asking if she was open. This 10 minute trip turned into a 45 minute trip! read more

Big store. Not cheap unless you know yout grocery game, which is check out manufacturer coupons once you've added the store coupons and sale items already onto your card from home. Then, roll through the store with your smartphone sticking to your list. You have serious game once you stop in the meat section and stock up everything going out of date that day, which can be bought for 50+ percent off plus applicable store ad discounts. You are then the King or Queen B like me because you do all of this when they're doing their 2x or 3x gas rewards promo. This store, my wallet, and big ass gas tank are full of win. Also, check out the scratch and dent/overflow area in the way back for super crazy deals. No I'm not a hoarder I just know how to do it right. Times are tough and you gotta be creative when feeding your family. This is the best store in the area by far but it still ranks below the Holy Grail of supermarkets - Wegmans. I'm not trying to drive to Largo to spend all the money I'm saving here. read more

I went here to get chicken tonight. Get to the counter, and read the sign that says "Chicken until 8 PM." I'm there at 6:15 PM mind you. And the two young teens running the area are turning people away saying, "We're out of chicken." I go up to customer service and ask them why chicken cannot be made? Customer service calls down and asks the same question . The response they get is, "Hold on, we will call you back." And then, after the decide it can be made, it takes half an hour to get chicken. That should take seven minutes. Then, I go to check out. The item won't scan and my light starts to blink above the machine. I see a girl standing up at the front kind of watching everybody, but then I see somebody come in, and she fist bump him in the chest. So I think, maybe she doesn't work there. Eventually, I walk up to her, and she confirmed she works there. I explained what happened, and she has this puzzled look. So I have her come over and watch what happens, and then she's able to fix it. Why is this store paying people who clearly either can't do the job, don't wanna do the job, and are incompetent? read more

Nice location, wait times for checking out can be long. Also it can be hard to find a cart sometimes. Other than that I have no complaints. The pharmacy has long hours and is open on weekends. The pharmacists change a lot but they are always nice and helpful. read more

I visit this location regularly when I'm in the area and I needed to stop and pick up groceries and in the process I needed to use the rest rooms. The rest rooms are filthy! Trash on the ground, the men's toilet bowls not clean and full of dirt, bugs flying throughout. Management has to make this a priority. read more

This store has the potential to be great and it is a nice store but i only issue i have is that summer i've bought produce (red bell pepper and fresh mixed vegetables bag) and as soon as i am home getting ready to cook(the same day)i notice they both went bad like the bell pepper had mold growing inside it and fresh vegetables bag (when i open it) was slimy from the i think it was the cauliflowers other then that the people r nice the customer service i've had is great. Worst customer service ever!!! No self check out lines, only one or two lines open at any given time and lines usually backed into aisle. It's really sad they built a large store in a newer shopping center and they staff it like a corner store. I recently visited the Brandywine stores deli and bakery for a corporate event. The deli was AWESOME! Many thanks to Dee and Awaza(sp?). The bakery not so much.....when I showed up on the day of to get my colored coordinated cupcakes they could not find the order, not to mention it took someone 25 min to finally return to the department. One guy finally showed up offering cupcakes for free off the floor display. Sorry....that was not the purpose of me pre ordering, thanks for nothing!! STAY AWAY FROM THE BAKERY!!!!!! read more

World's worst experience in buying sliced deli meat (got the wrong product twice and it took 15 minutes each time to slice one pound) and a prolonged failure to honor the marked down price for some very moldy-looking tomatilos (a Latin vegetable used for salsa). Two different trips; two terrible experiences. It's on my way home into deep Southern Maryland, but I really wonder if this convenience is worth the frustration. read more
