Well, truthfully, who likes grocery shopping? I mean, probably no one. It's a never ending chore, it's just the prelude to having to then do a ton of storing and prepping, and you pay money for the privilege. So my shopping goal is to go in to the store, find everything I need - easily - , pay, and leave. Not at this Safeway. Let me first say that the employees were helpful, considerate, and available in every department. That is the one plus and earns 2 stars; The store appeared clean so 1 more star. That's it. This shopping experience was exhausting. Example: I wanted roasted sunflower seeds for my salads. I looked first in the nuts aisle - not really expecting to find them there, but it was on my way. No seeds. Then on to produce, abd , having some experience, looked on the shelves under the produce bins because they are sometimes displayed there. I kept walking, and finally, on the back of a display near the beer cooler, there were huge bags of the seeds available - but no price or signage. This one task just took too long. In addition, their organic fruit selection was paltry. No blueberries, strawberries, or any kind of berry that was organic. I found apples and oranges. read more

Three stars because they have our favorite salsa and usually have pretty good stock, but lately it seems like there's at least one item we're looking for that they're out of (this last time being that favorite salsa), time before that was Organic Milk, etc. read more

Safeway is the new Albertson's. This Bozeman grocer is a lot cheaper than the other options in town, or the places in Yellowstone. We came here looking for deals. The pre-prepared food looked kinda ick. The sandwiches could've used a mayo/mustard packet. All the fried stuff looked like it'd been sitting out there for quite a while. The produce was pretty wilty, but you're out here in the mountains I guess. Safeway could use more local foods instead of all the national brands. I'd love to sample more of the local stuff. I wish they had a bison meat section. I wasn't wild about how the grocer was organized. It seems that they really push the beer in the center, and where the cheapest stuff usually is, along the perimeter of the store, they had all the most expensive stuff. Overall a good alcohol selection. No liquor. They have a Montana Craft Beer section, with a healthy selection of beers from across Big Sky Country. They also sell local wines. Prices were much more reasonable than elsewhere. There was plenty of parking, and this store occupies a hard signalized corner with a gas station and a Starbucks. read more

My sister and law and I walked up to the deli section where the folks by the counter ignored us. They saw us there. The young man who was behind the counter walked away instead of asking if we needed help. It wasn't until another worker who was there waiting on someone else asked him if we were being helped. His attitude was not good and he was not friendly at all . I am very disappointed in this behavior of Safeway's employees. I never had trouble before. Thus young man needs to learn how to treat customers professionally and in a nice manner. Hopefully management will have a chat with him . read more

Safeway has a lot of mis-priced items. I've been here 20-30 times, and usually buy sale items. However, 3 times now the price on the item hasn't matched the checkout. (This is after applying the safeway card/typing in my number). The first time it was a bag of coffee, ok it happens, I put it back and got another one. Second time it was a frozen dinner, weird it happened again, I put it back. This last time it was a bakery item that was supposed to be on sale, but again wasn't. The line for self checkout was growing, and instead of taking up everyone's time to have it cleared I just took the $2 loss and decided not to go back. I'm not sure what's going on, this price issue happens exclusively here and not in any other grocery stores. Maybe it's an honest mistake, but it's kind of suspicious. The store stands to profit if people think they're buying sale items, and then are charged full price, and safeway is probably banking on people not noticing or caring enough about a $2-4 upcharge due to something being mispriced. If that happens across enough customers, that's a pretty decent amount of profit just from having things mislabeled. Anyways, often mispriced/mislabeled items, probably won't be back. read more

I went back to this Safeway today and was pleased to see that they had only new Passover items for sale and was able to finish all of my shopping for the holiday. So not only did Safeway come through, the prices were better than anywhere else in town for the hard to find Passover foods. Thank you, Safeway! read more

Came to Safeway to pick up some supplies after landing in Bozeman and before heading to Yellowstone - figured it would be cheaper to get stuff here than at any of the touristy towns next to the national park. We bought bottled water and fruit and pre-made sandwiches from the deli and chips. This Safeway looks really new - like maybe built within the last few years. It's super clean. The deli section is huge - you can make your own salad at their salad bar, get a sandwich made at the deli if you have time, and even get packaged sushi. There is a Starbucks inside the Safeway, there are self checkout machines (but there are human ones too), and there are restrooms in the front of the store. This is a pretty big Safeway, so you should be able to find everything you need for food! Don't forget your Safeway card! read more

Went to the store today. First time using the app for coupons. I got it figured out minus a yes or no question. Ask the cashier very nicely and he told me he did not have time to train me in this that he was busy that tourist were coming in. There was no one in line at his checkout. I told him I did not need to be trained that I just had a yes or no question. Anyway got it figured out and left the store. What ever happened to being polite? I was a cashier myself and would never talk to people that way or they would have fired me! If this is their customer service then I guess I will take my business elsewhere and maybe you should too! I came here a few times during my week in Bozeman, and I love Safeway! There's a lot of choices as usual, and prices are quite normal. I grabbed some jalapeno bread, two donuts, and there's $5 sushi! I got a spicy California crunch roll and a spicy tuna roll. Not the best sushi of course but what can one expect. The bread and donuts were delightful though, as usual. There's plenty of self-checkout lines, which makes getting groceries here quite efficient. read more

Terrible customer service. I was a victim to gift card fraud and within only 30 minutes of purchasing card I returned once I realized it was a scam. I tried to return the gift card with the receipt and everything. Customer service was very unhelpful and rude. I was clearly upset and stressed considering I just got scammed and spent $500 on a card. The manager was very rude and unhelpful also. I was shocked at how unwilling they were to help resolve the issue while I have been a loyal customer there for 7 years. All they said to me was "all sales are final". Apparently even in the case of a scam. Will no longer be shopping there. read more

The manger Chris and the pick up staff at the Bozeman MT. Safeway are amazing. They took the extra step to solve plus understand my frustration. My daughter is a Freshman at MSU and became sick so she quarantined. Unable to go out and get some groceries, missing home because she was sick my friend and I decided to put together a care package with flowers and her favorite comfort foods. Because Bozeman Safeway doesn't deliver Door Dash took the order but never delivered it. Said they did but after contacting her dorm and others no delivery was made. Door Dash gave me the run around. (I would give them 0 stars). Safeway redid the order and my daughter was able to pick it up. Thank you Safeway pick up staff and Chris you were fantastic with customer service and making a mom feel better as well as her sick child!! read more

I ordered a cake from Safeway for a birthday, as I do every year at various Safeway's. This will be the last time I ever order a cake from Safeway again due to the Bozeman Safeway experience I experienced. I placed an order for a cake 6 days before it needed to be. I get the same one every year. When I picked the cake up, the decorations were fine - crooked and the name was not legible. And when I got home I realized it was buttercream instead of cream cheese for a red velvet cake. When I called and asked if they would be able to wipe it off and put cream cheese on before I left for the party, the women told me, "I know what I'm doing and I damn sure put cream cheese on the cake." I said okay, tried it, and called back. It was buttercream, not what I ordered. I called back and told her I tried it and it's definitely not cream cheese. She again, told me I was wrong and have no idea what I am talking about. And that since her job is to make cakes, I am wrong and hung up on me. This is ridiculous. So here I am with a cake I didn't order and a bad taste from the Safeway in Bozeman. I won't be returning to ever buy anything from the bakery again. read more

I went in here to get a last min cake for my friends birthday, we were visiting from Idaho. There was this awesome woman there, Jessie. She showed us a few of her cakes and said she could make one if I didn't need it today. Very friendly and listened to what we needed. Had us laughing and made the whole experience a lot less stressful. 12/10 will only buy cakes from her when we visit. read more

I usually frequent this store once a week. It's a pretty clean store, the bathrooms could use some work though, it seems like they only clean them once a day. The flower selection in this store is amazing. My favorite employee is this really sweet kid named Seth. He is always in the self check out. What a good guy! So helpful and friendly and he remembers things about you if you are a regular. Another issue I have with this store is that if you are not careful you could buy expired items. They have so many expired things throughout the store and there doesn't seem to be someone that checks that. Also their Safeway brand bread sticks are always burnt! so i had to stop buying them. I sort of miss the location of the old Safeway, but this store is so much better organized and waaay cleaner! It's my go-to for hard to find specialty groceries for ethnic dishes. They have a great deli selection for quick lunch options. Great selection of wine and beer, although at a little bit higher prices than other places in town. If I am stopping by to get other groceries I will pick up beer, and then will search for some that's on sale. Otherwise I do not come here specifically for beer/ wine. I do, however, always come here if I am looking for some good cheap meat! They will almost always have some cuts of meat on sale. Even then, they will have a manager's special to get rid of older stuff or special cuts that are WAAAY cheap and are perfect to cook up for dinner that night or throw in the freezer for later. read more

Pretty decent Safeway but nothing extraordinary. Management wouldn't know to stock twice as much of an item when it's on sale because they don't think ahead. If you always run out of a product and never run out of the same product but the sugar free version, then maybe think about discontinuing the one nobody likes and stocking twice as much of the one that sales your custom could be happy. Instead I have to shop up the day the order arrives and harass employees to get me some from the back stock. read more

Wife wife was injured and unable to go out, so for convenience I saw online add for 4-5 lb turkey breast, dressing and mashed potatoes and rolls for $49.95. They lost my order twice then when I picked it up they had trouble finding the boxed ingredients, that took a good 10 minutes, then they couldn't find the SKU for it so had trouble ringing it up. They didn't put any rolls in the box. I weighed the breast and container when I got home, only 3.1 lbs. Bottom Line-I'm not going back here for anything. read more

I was traveling through Montana last spring (2014) and had to refill a prescription. I went to the Safeway pharmacy in Bozeman, got their information, called my doctor back home, and had the refill order faxed to the Safeway. They were helpful in filling it quickly, but the price was almost 4 times the usual price for this generic, very common, medication. I've had this same prescription filled at my local, small-town independent pharmacy many times and instead of about $30, they charged me $109.49. I paid it since I had no choice, but be warned. I only post this now on going through my receipts for 2014 for my income taxes. read more

Went to store at 7:15am on a Saturday. Was in a hurry and needed $20 cash back, for my kid who was leaving town on a day trip. The cashier said she couldn't do it as she had very little cash at that time of day. Hard to believe the whole store couldn't provide an extra $20 in cash back. Instead I had to rush around to an atm and make an extra stop on an already busy morning. Next time I'll go to Smith's, they always have plenty of cash on hand. read more

I've been shopping here for some time, but today experienced the worst service of any grocery store, anywhere. First, the checker never greeted me AT ALL. No hello, how are you, or smile; virtually nothing. The first words I heard out of her mouth were' "That sucks! That just sucks!", as she was speaking to another employee. In the middle of my transaction she declared, "Damn it! I have an override!" I looked at her with astonishment because of her language, and she said, "It's not your fault." Then she announced, "They just keep making my job really hard...really hard!" As the transaction proceeded, I noticed she placed a box of cereal on top of my soft dinner rolls, so I placed the rolls in a separate bag as she was watching. I don't think it even registered. Upon finishing, I waited for her to say something--perhaps goodbye, have a nice day, or thank you. Nothing. So, I said "thank you" in complete sarcasm, and she replied, "You're welcome." The RUDEST checker I've ever encountered. The only reason I'm not specifying her name is because I'm Christian, and don't want to put her job in jeopardy. I hope Safeway is listening--some of your personnel need a good talking to! A customer should NEVER walk away angry, offended, insulted, and shaking their head. EVER. read more

I would never, EVER, go to this store again. Safeway, before it was acquired, for whatever inane reason by Albertson's, was a beautiful store with a cozy, high-end atmosphere due to the subdued lighting, which means EVERYTHING! Now, whatever idiot from Albertsons's who took over and changed that made it look harsh, garish, severe, cheap and akin to a Woolworth's or some five-and-dime store from eons ago! Obviously, they don't know their a$$es from first base when it comes to marketing. I wouldn't go back in that store if everything in it were half price, based on the lighting alone, but then I'm not a "pod person" like everyone else in this area seems to be.
