I had to reschedule a donation pick-up and I called the day before to confirm, as I had not received a reminder, and the agent was apologetic, as the previous agent did not follow through with the rescheduling and there was nothing showing. She rescheduled me for 2 weeks later. I got up at 6:30am to make sure I was available, for the new date and by 4:45pm no pick-up. I called and the agent was apologetic, as the previous agent DID NOT complete THAT rescheduling. I asked to speak to a supervisor. She put me on hold for 7 minutes then came back and said she was transferring me to the supervisor, and I was sent to voice mail. I left a message that I needed to hear back or I would donate elsewhere because this was not right that I had 2 errors in scheduling. I never heard back. I am now donating to Big Brothers, Big Sisters. It is hard enough to have to be available from 7am to 5pm, but 2 failures in scheduling and no apology, or call back, is not acceptable. read more

I'm a huge supporter of nonprofits and I've supported Safe Nest over many years. Two weeks ago they called looking for donations. Trucks will be in my neighborhood. Ok I get on the list. I'm moving so I have a lot for donation. I get everything organized and labeled. I put everything out at 630am. Pick up window is 7a-5p. I check periodically during the day, stuff is still there. The day ends, it's 550pm and ALL THE STUFF IS STILL THERE! I don't understand this! You call to ask for donations, I say yes, I schedule, you call the day prior to confirm, but no pick up? This isn't the first time this has happened either. It's disheartening because the larger nonprofits are out for money and I know Safe Nest is a local nonprofit but you gotta get the system together read more

Shady; things were left for pick up on a specific date that was scheduled for Thursday; I left for a few hours when I return home all of the items were gone there was no notice that they had picked up the items; Monday morning in my gate a notice was stuck sorry I missed you; something doesn't quite seem right because if you were scheduled for a Thursday pickup why would you leave a notice on Monday? " missed you"... The notice should've been left on Thursday ? It's a gate that I go in and out of on a daily basis there was no notice on Thursday but they use company gas to come out early Monday morning and say "sorry they missed me.. shady" They were really nice things my question is Why are they wasting gas for a non-profit Organization? Coming out 3 days later And twice to just Leave a notice which Pickup was scheduled for Thursday..? I escaped domestic violence by moving to Nevada. I had no issues getting an appointment the same day, but my agent was unprofessional, uncomfortable around a black woman, and didn't know what she was doing. She asked me questions I looked up online before coming in. And unbeknown to her, I spoke to an online chat agent who told me to come in and bring all that I had--knowing my circumstances, which now suddenly cannot be helped because it's just different here. Both a government agency and Google referred me to SafeNest. And clearly, it was a sham as I wasted my time going in person--such a disappointment. The services promoted online I did not receive. Nor was I given a list of resources to another agency or somewhere else that could help me. If I obviously had the finances, I wouldn't subject myself to the mercy of someone's judgment. My agent asked me, "What will you do? What do you have planned?" Regarding my situation. And I suppose I wait around until he finds me to die since I've already taken drastic measures to escape states. What do you mean, "What will you do? What do you have planned?" Isn't that why I'm sitting in a private, confidential office with someone trained to assist me? Not patronize me? Instead of taking time to safety plan with me, I was rushed out so she could make lunch. I hope it was delicious. Instead of calling another agent to support my complicated situation, I watched her muster up the minimal effort to assist me and shift around on Google confused. Pride is such a useless emotion. Regarding my questions about establishing safety here, she told me; unfortunately, that doesn't work in this state. We live in a nation that welcomes and refuges immigrants nationwide. Yet, a citizen seeking safe haven within state lines is told they can do nothing. When working with minorities, you'd expect a level of multicultural competency training that would follow an agent's attitude. Instead, I was met with bizarre stares, apparent discomfort, and a lack of professionalism. Clearly, Google is a better support, so consider that if you're new here. Good luck. read more

Hello, I had a donation pickup scheduled for today, 5/8/19 ( I scheduled this pickup 2 weeks ago and someone called to confirm it yesterday). No one ever came to pick up the items and as a result, some items were damaged. I was never contacted to say the pickup was canceled or what happened with the pickup. I will be dropping these itms off for donation elsewhere but I wanted to make you aware of this issue as deserving people have now lost out in these donations due to Safe Nest's inability to follow through. Found a drop off box located on Lake Mead behind a grocery store. They have several drop off boxes just go to their website. It made it very convenient for me to drop off clothes. You cant miss the lavender colored Donation Box the says, "Safe Nest". Safe Nest is a 24 hour shelter for women who have suffered domestic violence often they have children with them. I hope the clothes we dropped off are picked up in a timely fashion and provided to women and children who are in need. read more

THIS Shelter is ABSOLUTELY filthy and run down. also, did I mention the place is filthy??? up to four women and their children share one dirty, tiny room and unsanitary bathroom. The women there are not forced to pick up after themselves nor their own children, they steal and create a toxic negative atmosphere that constantly smells of dirty diapers and staff could care less. They are clearly in it for the paycheck. I found out staff constantly keep getting fired and replaced due to complaints. read more

I donated to Safe Nest a few years ago. I THOUGHT the items I was donating were going to the women in-need AT the Safe Nest housing center. Instead, I came home to a notice from their affiliate (Savers?) for tax deductions, because the items were being brought there to be SOLD. I'm fine with donations being sold, however, IF I had known the items were not going to the women directly, then I would have made different choices in my donated items. For example, the brand new and still sealed box of pots & pans would have stayed with me; and I would have found a friend to give the business suits to wear instead of being sold by Safe Nest (at Savers second-hand store). I will say that they DID pick up ALL my items left outside and marked for them on the day they were scheduled to arrive. Happy with that! read more

Wow!!! I hauled out two BIG boxes of stuff, clearly marked for "Safe Nest" donations before 7am and 8pm no one showed up to pick up. I had spent days going through closets and being extra generous assuming it was going to a women's shelter and for kids (apparently after reading the reviews, this is not the case and items get resold). The day prior someone called to confirm my pickup donation request and reminded me to leave the items out before said time...8pm rolls around and no one comes. Sorry but if you can't even pick up free items, I won't be donating to this organization again, I cannot stand institutions that cant keep their end of their promises, including non- profits. read more

The other review explained the counseling services, so I will describe some of the other services they offer. Safe Nest is the only 24 hour shelter service in Las Vegas. This means that if you and your family are accepted for shelter services, you can stay there all day. The other shelters in Las Vegas have residents leave in the morning and are not allowed to return until the evening. The shelter locations are confidential around town. Your abuser will not know where you are staying. There is transportation to the shelter and to court appearance. The goal of the shelter is to make you safe and help you to take steps to reestablish your life. Be a part of your house community. Steps to becoming finanially independent. The goal when you move out is that you are moving up and on with your life. Safe Nest also offers 24 E-TPO services. This helps you get the abuser served with a TPO-temporary protective order while he/she is still in jail. There is a 24 hour hotline to help with emergency services. Don't be afraid because you have no one. You are not alone. With our current economy, nonprofit organizations are in desperate need of funds to maintain service levels. Safe Nest accepts clothing donations, car donations, household goods, and money. You can designate that the clothes or baby items go specifically to the shelter or to be sold at Savers, which raise money to fund all services. You can also voluntary to provide assistance, or do what I did and volunteer for the Board of Directors so we can help the organization to raise money to keep doing all of their wonderful work. read more

Really disappointed with their communication or lack there of. I scheduled a pickup online a week in advance. I had the items left outside the night before the scheduled pick up. 4:50 pm still outside and no one has come by. I call and they say "well they still have 10 more minutes". I said that is no problem I just want to make sure it gets picked up as I can't/don't want to leave the stuff out there for too long. She said yes he is on his way just running late. I said no problem. 6:30 rolls around, still no one and of course no one answers the phone. Here we are the next day and they're still out there. So I just loaded them in my car and will donate somewhere else. I understand that it's all volunteer work, but I think they can be better organized or better with communication. Why bother to schedule a pickup if no one is going to come? Just more annoying and a hassle. read more

Domestic Violence is America's ugly little secret- noone wants to talk about it, noone wants to get involved, and it ends up on the news, often ending in a tragedy (death- murder/suicide). The statistics are frightening- many women in this country end up victims of this terrible epidemic. This is something that happens across all socio-economic levels. Remember that dethroned judge (six figure income) who got attacked by her husband, not too long ago? This is an organization that helps victims of Domestic Violence. I came here for counseling after getting attacked by a boyfriend's teenager, who had ADHD (diagnosed) among other problems. Prior to that, I was in an abusive (verbal and physical) marriage to a man who was very controlling and angry- it was a roller coaster, the public outbursts were embarrassing and noone offered to help, nor would any of his friends intervene. Counseling is available at a low-cost- at the time (this was seven years ago), it was $5.00 per session. There is one-on-one counseling as well as group counseling. Both are good ways to get help. I could be more open during a one-on-one consult than with the group sessions (about 10-20 in the group). After hearing other people's experiences, I also didn't feel as if my situation was as bad- if there was a scale for that. It was also validating to hear other people's similar stories. There is no "Blaming the Victim" here, which is rampant amongst those who do not understand and cannot empathize. (You see this BTV outlook in magazine articles or tv news stories, and you can hear judgement in people's reactions- they don't understand; it's not something one can fathom unless one has been in those shoes. I truly believe this.) Counseling was very helpful- I went for about seven months. I learned that abuse is abuse. Women deserve better. Life is too short to stay in a relationship that might be a health threat to you and/or kids- and clearly I am speaking from experience, a Victor, no longer a Victim. It breaks my heart seeing other women going through this- I know what it feels like, survived it, and I'm ok now- a stronger and confident woman. I'm not saying that if you go here, all your problems are solved, I'm stating that this is a good place to go to for help (important community resource) in terms of domestic violence abuse. Maybe you know someone who needs help- your mother, your aunt, your sister, your cousin, your friend- you can refer this organization to her. If we all can help break this cycle, it would mean so many lives would be affected, for the better. It was a little awkward seeing the court-appointed Domestic Batterers in the semi-separate waiting room- there's a men's counseling group, too. The building is a little older (older strip mall setting with other offices and organizations, Boy Scouts) with a weird parking lot (one way). There are pamphlets on different subjects in the lobby/waiting room. The sign-in sheet is on the desk. You pay the person at the front desk and get a receipt. After the one-on-one session, you set appointments with your counselor (mostly female). Around the back of the building (outside) is a donation box. I've been donating faithfully ever since- the group always needs women's clothing and shoes, toiletries (bath wash, sanitary pads/tampons), children's clothing, and diapers. I also regularly donate to Savers Thrift Department Stores (when I go through my closet several times a year), which also helps this organization. A donation means so much. Why not put this unused stuff to good use? And it helps clear the clutter in your house. There are other locations to drop off your donations, like the one at Jones & Sahara. I am not sure about what else the organization offers- I didn't need shelter, I had family members to help me. I know that there is a hotline- I saw the number in so many doctor offices in previous years. read more

They called and asked me for a donation pick-up, so I agreed. Was planning on doing some spring cleaning, so I went thru my home and had 15 plastic bags sitting on my front porch for pick up. I waited all day last Tuesday and they did not come. When I called on Wednesday morning, they said we can pick it up on Saturday. I said No thank you! Put the bags in my car and took them to Goodwill. I used to give a $50.00 donation every month for the kids and decided that if they can't keep their donation commitments, what are they doing with any donations, so I deleted them too. I had been trying to reach them since end of July due to dangerous situation without luck due to summer vacations and lack of commitment from the agency, I kept getting Reffered by the courts and the schools and figured give them another shot. All for a big waste of time, the main supervisor TC compasión and empathy seemed to just want to rid herself of a case. Left me w no options and said by now if that person wants to get you they will, don't think that resource can do anything for u now... I'm just in Aw of how horrible this place deals with crisis. I have donated to the place a few times. I like what they stand for. I have recently donated and this time it was large furniture. I'm not sure if they take large furniture , but they put you in contact with the department that does. They came during the times that they told me they would. Nice friendly guy. He did it with no problem loaded up my stuff and gave me a receipt. Very nice and fast. I would donate to this place again anytime. I like how they set up drop boxes all around town!! read more

Safe Nest has a huge problem with their donation pick ups. I called to donate brand new stuffed animals, bookshelf, couch, chairs and other misc things. I was told I would have to wait 10 days before a truck would be in my area. I waited with all of the donations sitting in the entry way of my house. The night before the pick up I received a call telling me they would not be picking up the stuff, maybe next week. We are in the process of getting our house ready to sell. We don't have that much time to mess around with this. Will donate somewhere else. read more

I'm giving 1 star as it does not allow me to give 0. My mom is moving to Hawaii to be with me. That means downsizing so of course we both agreed that we could donate a lot of our furniture to SafeNest. It's something we've done for over 10 years. As with used furniture there was normal wear and tear on the items we were donating but it was all still in good condition. My mom called and arranged a pickup on the day the movers were coming to get her stuff. It was also the same day she was planning on leaving as the house was sold and the new buys were moving in the next day. She waited from 10am until 10pm for the people from SafeNest to show up. And when they did, they told her they "couldn't" take any of what she had because most of it was "damaged"!!! When she said it was just little scratches from normal wear and tear they still said it was damaged! Worst of all, NO ONE said this to her when she was scheduling the pick up. If they had she wouldn't have scheduled it. She would've found somewhere else to donate. I just can't believe that an organization that survives on donations can afford to be so picky. Plus, their website said anything they can't use is sold to Savers and the money put towards SafeNest. I've shopped at Savers and even their stuff isn't perfect. My mom ended up having to pay someone to take the furniture because she had nowhere to put it as she was staying in a hotel until the flys to Hawaii. I'm from Vegas, born and raised. I may not live there anymore but I have a lot of friends there still and I will make sure no one I know wastes their time donating to SafeNest! read more

As a survivor of domestic violence, I support any organization that assists in rehabilitating the individuals who are subject to this crime. I am in agreement with some of the other reviews on Safe Nest management, from the unique perspective of someone who stayed there. Years ago I fled from a life threatening situation while I was pregnant. In my search for shelter and resources I became all too aware that the Las Vegas area is pathetically lacking in any assistance for victims. The one and only shelter for domestic violence was so filled to capacity that there was a waiting list to get shelter. After being hospitalized, I was finally accepted in my fourth attempt to flee the situation I was in. Most of the staff there were former victims themselves, which at first seemed appropriate. However, it became apparent that they were not in a stable emotional or psychological state themselves, thus passing on unhealthy habits and making recovery for residents nearly impossible. A simple case of the blind leading the blind. I attribute this mainly to the lack of ownership the rest of the community takes to the rising domestic violence issue at hand. Ultimately during my stay, despite my need and the extraordinary effort I put into my personal recovery, I was falsely accused of drug use by staff and residents, (even though I had passed every drug test I'd ever been given and had no history of substance abuse) and given 24 hours to leave the shelter two days before Christmas. In the years that followed, I have been left to contemplate what their reasons were for going against their self proclaimed mission statement, and putting the lives of two victims at risk again. My suspicion is that it was a personal bias for one reason or another with staff members. In any case, my experience with this "shelter" did more harm than good and I ultimately had to relocate to another state in order to seek out the help that I needed. In the years since, I have successfully recovered and have been free from domestic violence for over 4 years, with no further accusations or suspicion of substance abuse. I live my life to the fullest. I sometimes have fleeting flashbacks of my experience, and the trauma I went through, and can honestly say that my experience with SAFE NEST is an ongoing topic in counseling sessions in an effort to make sense of it. If I could say anything to the founders of this shelter I would say two things: 1: I commend you for your vision and for taking a chance in helping people who are hurting. 2: Look a little closer at the people you hire as advocates or staff because they have the ability to do great good, or great harm...and it does have the potential to save or cost lives. read more

I schedule furniture and baby clothes and necessities pick up, waited over a month for them to be in my area, was supposed to get a call night before to confirm time, never happened! My daughter and I put 15 bags of baby clothes, 2 car seats baby bath tubs, bouncy seats, curio cabinet, futon and mattress a coffee table and a few bags of women's clothes. They broke the cabinet loading it, so left it along with a note describing why they couldn't take anything!!!!! I will NEVER go out of my way for this organization again !!! read more

I appreciate the mission and activities of Safe Nest. However, I feel they need to reassess their donation pick-up policies. I called with a substantial donation of women's clothing, books, cds, and small household items. I was given a specific day and date for pick-up and agreed to have the items ready - in the driveway - by 7 am. I understood that the pick-up could occur anytime between 7 am and 75 pm. The day before the pick-up I received a voice mail message that I was scheduled for the pick-up and needed to call asap if I needed to change the date or cancel. At 6:45 i placed 5 boxes and 8 large bags of clothing and household items in the drive and covered them with a tarp because it was raining. There was a huge sign - "SAFE NEST" - displayed so the driver could not miss the donation. All day we waited and at 4:30 pm I called Safe Nest donation number to inquire whether the pick-up would occur. Rather rudely I was told (1) the drivers could not be reached because they did not have a cell phone and (2) the agreement was from 7 am to 5 pm so I had to wait to determine if the pick-up would occur. At 5:15 I brought in the items, some rather wet from the rain, and filled the only empty space in the garage. It is now the day after the scheduled pick-up and no call from Safe Nest to reschedule nor to apologize for not letting me know there would be no pick-up. I feel for the women in need of a safe place. I feel for the children who also need somewhere to call home. I feel the system is greatly flawed by policies that seem out-dated. Drivers without a cell phone? Unable to determine if a schedule pick-up - scheduled by Safe Nest, not me - would occur? If my business was run like this, I would be out of business yesterday. read more

First let me say, that this review is not a comment on the merits of the organization Safe Nest and the good work they do, as the other reviews have been. They definitely provide a needed service, there is no excuse for domestic violence This review is on their management or lack thereof, collecting donations. They call on the phone and solicit donations. When you commit to make a donation, they followup with a confirmation call the night before the pickup, so far so good. I boxed up the items, things I don't think they would have a problem selling. A meat/food grinder that had only been used once, a couple of satellite receivers, cordless phones, answering machine, etc.. I set the box out at 5 in the morning, clearly marked for Safe Nest, when I got home from work, the box was still sitting there. I made two phone calls on two consecutive days to try and reschedule a pickup, neither phone call was returned. I went to their website and sent an email, again to try and get the pickup rescheduled, no response to the email. Any organization that shows this lack respect and disregard toward it's benefactors, apparently do not need or deserve the donations offered them. There are many charities in Las Vegas, that do good work, that need donations. I will find one that shows a modicum of respect and consideration for the people donating to them. read more

Called again and the lady said boxes have to be out in front. I explained I 30+ large boxes of clothes behind my rv. parking gate. She said we can't go in the back yard. I'm like look they are heavy boxes that yoou need a daulie. She said the guy has to be able to lift them. I'm like, I have too much clothes to put in smaller boxes so this guy can lift them. Cost too much for boxes. I told them I'll help them with my daulie. She was such a pain in the ass I rather donate to someone who wants nor could use them all. Not a company who can't follow directions and continues to give me a hard time over the phone. I'm donating here not selling you guys something. Shouldn't be this hard to donate clothes. If you have been mandated by the court to attend domestic violence classes, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT choose Safe Nest, located at 2915 W. Charleston Blvd, Suite 12, Las Vegas, NV 89102. The phone number is (702) 877-0133. They are disrespectful, insulting, demeaning, and condescending, especially a class teacher/leader by the name of Mark. Everyone's situation is different, and things that other people report on an individual and what gets written down on paper may or may not be true, yet you can still find yourself in "the system." This guy Mark takes it upon himself to judge a person based on what he sees on paper, whether that's really true or not. In any case, it doesn't warrant being treated with rudeness, disrespect, and insults. There is no emotional support, encouragement, compassion, nor empathy. You're paying money to be treated this way, because you have to pay for each class! Also, be aware that homework is assigned and required, and if you are not aware of it or even forget to bring it, yet you show up for class, you WILL NOT be allowed to attend and will be counted absent, and this occurs with the very first time of not having the homework. Keep in mind that this is a court-ordered class, and there's a certain amount of absences allowed before being terminated from Safe Nest. If I could give a rating of 0 stars to this program, I would. STAY AWAY FROM SAFE NEST!!! There are other programs that are much better!!! read more

I had made arrangements for Safe Nest to pick up donated items on August 2,2012. At around 4:45 P.M. this same day nobody had picked up the boxes so I started getting nervous and telephoned Safe Nest. I was told the trucks were busy but someone would be on their way to pick the filled boxes up. My boxes never were picked up. I than telephoned Safe Nest and left a message regarding the unpicked up boxes. Nobody even bothered to call me back! So beware, folks, when you consider donating to Safe Nest. I found another charity who were very glad to pick up my boxes. My 93 year old Mother had a few boxes of clothes to donate. She heard of Safe Nest and wanted to donate to them. I called and made an appointment for them to pick up on January 4th but she was unable to have someone put the boxes on the curb. I called and asked if they could go to her door and pick them up from her entry way. On January 4th around 9am her doorbell rang and it was Safe Nest. The individual took the boxes but did not say a word to my Mother. Not a 'thank you' or 'have a good day'. He ignored her and was basically rude. She has a lot more that may have been donated in the future, but it will not be to this organization. read more

Absolutely repelling that people would give a negative review of this place because these poor women have a hard time getting trucks and hauling donations. If you want to help the organization take your donations down there. Stop rounding up all the trash at your spring cleaning and demanding them to come haul it away. This is mean spirited and not in the spirit of charity to give negative reviews towards a charitable institution that provides for women. read more
