To make matters worse, I received a follow-up email claiming I now needed to pay an additional $495 for ADAS recalibration, bringing the new total to $1,045.96. My vehicle does not have windshield-mounted sensors or a front-facing camera, yet they insisted recalibration was mandatory or they wouldn't repair it. I even confirmed with my dealership. This is a classic money grab, adding hidden fees and pushing unnecessary services on customers who may not realize what their vehicle does or doesn't require. Last week, I scheduled my windshield to be replaced. Safelite no longer has the option for me to talk to a representative to schedule online, so I wasn't able to proof all of the details for my service with a verified expert. I showed up for my appt and was told that I had the wrong glass. In my opinion, this could have been avoided if they had better customer service and if I would have been able to speak to someone over the phone while scheduling. The employee who told me it was the wrong glass then proceeded to order me another glass and told me to come back today. I came back today for my appt, took off work, and took an uber back home. 30 min later I get a call saying that the glass is still the wrong glass and I have to schedule again. Not only did I waste the morning for a 2nd time and have to arrange early pickup, but the employee who had confirmed my service and who was here this morning was nowhere to be found, so I didn't even receive an apology. I have used Safelite for many years prior to this experience, but after today, I will not be using them in the future. read more

I scheduled an at-home visit based on the information on the website, which stated that cracks under 6 inches could be filled. My crack was within this limit, as I had measured it. However, the technician who arrived the next day claimed the crack was too large to be filled. I have home security cameras and observed that the technician merely glanced at the crack before leaving. This was quite frustrating, as I needed the crack repaired promptly to prevent it from worsening. Keep in mind I also paid $158 for this service and was not REFUNDED. Consequently, I contacted the Berwyn shop to have my entire window replaced. Technician David handled the replacement and did an excellent job, providing clear instructions on post-replacement care, including how long to wait before washing the car. While I probably wouldn't recommend this company overall, as it feels like the Walmart of window replacements, I must say that David was excellent in his service. My review is three stars because of several issues with having my windshield replaced. Safelite inconvenienced me twice, but paid the fee for the calibration (since it's an included service with the windshield replacement). Issue#1 - I dropped my car for the first appointment and learned afterwards that the wrong glass was ordered. They were unable to provide a new date, but told me once the ordered the glass, it's non refundable so they'd inspect it once it arrived and then call me for a date. When they called they couldn't get me in for at least 4-5 days and refused to transfer the glass to a location with more availability. Issue #2 - They replaced the glass and called me to pick up the car. Then, I was told they didn't calibrate it but I could go to a dealership to have it done. Huh? You scheduled for 3-4 hours to allow for calibration. If you couldn't fix it all, why not reschedule when you can?! Was told the system went down. Then the story was, there's a password issue. The thing is, they likely knew they couldn't but because they had already ordered the glass and couldn't return it, they did a half job recognizing it couldn't be undone. After two appointments, I was forced to schedule a calibration at the dealer (who could've replaced the glass and calibrate) after waiting several weeks for an appointment. I had to call Safelite to honor their agreement to pay the $175 calibration fee by phone. I'm not sure that there's a way to avoid this type of situation but the experience in and of itself makes it hard to rate this location as anything other than 3 stars. read more

Safelite helped get me into an appointment immediately after confirming coverage with my insurance. When I arrived, I was able to check in immediately. The woman at the front desk considerately asked me if I'd need to connect to the wi-fi to work remotely and offered coffee and snacks while I waited. Just 10 minutes after arriving, another customer arrived very upset after her car was vandalized. The technician and front desk representative immediately jumped into action to support the customer. They vacuumed the broken glass and immediately reached out to the customer's insurance company to get her set up with an appointment. They were able to find an appointment for her the following day and offered to securely store her car in their garage until the appointment or at least place plastic over the windows that had been broken into. They were extremely professional and supportive to the customer. If ever I'm in need of future glass/window support, I would definitely return to this location. Excellent service. I set the appointment online and waited for the vehicle. It was contactless and I was taken care of immediately. The wait time wasn't an issue and the tech suggested my insurance may reimburse me for the repair. He was correct. My insurance did reimburse for the repair and it didn't count and a normal insurance claim. I was considered a windshield claim, which is different from a normal accident claim. Ultimately, they provide this as a service for their customers. I appreciate the information from the tech, as well as the service. read more

Been waiting on my windshield since OCTOBER! I have talked to the shop, talked to corporate, and repeat those both. Was told repeatedly my windshield is on a NATIONAL BACK ORDER and no one can get my windshield. I just have to wait it out. Finally, I asked my insurance company for a new list. 1st shop I called a few days ago ordered the windshield and has it in stock. I asked them what about the national backorder? They claim they never heard of that going on recently. If Safelite did not want to replace my windshield I am unsure why they would not just deny claim. I expressed to them how the chip turned into a huge crack up the drivers side, across the entire windshield, and last up the passenger side. This has been a frustrating experience. Mind you I had to check in with them monthly as they did not have the courtesy of following up since October or returning calls. read more

Safelite was the recommended option for a Geico insurance claim, and they could do all the work, including recalibration of sensors. The problem was with the only phone number published on the web, it goes to a nationwide automated call center that was designed to make new appointments, and hung up on me most of the time when I tried to contact the shop. I had to drop it off at the shop, and I was not called when they were finished. The next day, the rear-view mirror fell off and it was clear it wasn't properly mounted. The shop was happy to fix it right away, but had I not taken a business card and kept my receipts, I would never have been able to call them via the only number that Google shows for the location. read more

I had a very large crack in my windshield from a large stone thrown by a semi. Safelite had to order the glass from the dealer. Once it came in, the handled the install professional and as quickly as possible. If you have a camera that projects your speed and directions onto the windshield, know that it's a 4 hour wait to have it calibrated. My only complaint was that, when I sent up the appt with the 800# operator, she set it up earlier than the location opens. Not sure why she didn't know their hours. read more

My technician never showed up to work the day of the appointment. I was left high and dry until about 11 AM. My whole morning was wasted waiting for the technician to either call or show up. Someone from the Safelite company called me and told me that he didn't show up to work and that they were trying all morning to get another technician to fill my service, but they could not find one. I made an online appt with satélite. They worked directly with my insurance company and it saved me close to $400 out of pocket. They were courteous, friendly, knowledgeable and professional. So, my dog attacked my passenger side back door window when I was rolling it up and it shattered! I went online to book an appointment with Safelite. The process was simple and was able to book my appointment for the next day, at my house. The communications from the company were excellent, I knew exactly when to expect their service provider and he texted me when he arrived at my house. They were quick to schedule my appointment but also quick to bump me and cancel my appointment! I had an appointment for 8-12pm. No one arrived by 1230 so I called. The lady told me someone should have called me and told me the guy was running late but he would be there before 5pm.... 5pm comes and goes. The technician called me and told me he couldn't make it that I would need to call and schedule a new appointment! After waiting around all day that was the call I received. The technicians were friendly and professional, the shop was clean and inviting. There's free coffee there, but a locally owned coffee shop a few doors down as well. Excellent, timely, and friendly service from beginning to end. Best experience I've had on any service to my car that I can remember. For starters, it's very easy to schedule an appointment on their website, and get an estimate. This took some of the stress out of it. The installer was ready on schedule, and completed the work on time. This location has good Wi-Fi, and I managed to get a bit of work done while I waited. The installer was also very friendly, taking time of answer all of my questions. His enthusiasm was very disarming. My only lingering concern is that the new front windshield I received does not appear to have molding that is attached to the sides of the glass. In other words, the glass sits on top of the molding, rather than flush with it. I've never seen a car like that before. However, my installer said that's normal for my car model. I called the 800- customer service number for Safelite, and they also insisted that the molding-behind-the-glass arrangement was normal. I'm still giving 4 stars because I received excellent service, easily arranged, and at a fair price. Hopefully the invisible molding doesn't prove to be an issue. read more

The day of my appointment I got a call 2 hours after the appointment time started, saying that the glass arrived broken so they would have to reschedule. Fine, things happen, I get it. The repair man says he can come in the afternoon that day, but I have to get to work, so he says he'll make me his "first appointment of the day tomorrow." So the next day rolls around and after waiting an hour and a half, I finally call. The number leads to an office, the woman in the office was lovely but the best she could do was call the boss and have him call me back. Which is just a ridiculous set up for issues. But, when I finally get the call back from the boss he informs me the replacement glass hasn't arrived yet and my appointment will actually be the following day. So, I'm mad because apparently the repair man that called me the day before lied? The boss basically was like, "yeah I guess he lied to you, the glass wont arrive until this afternoon." That will make this a 3 day long repair; I'm missing 3 days of work hours in a row because of the lies and rescheduling. And I'm parking in a spot that isn't my designated parking spot so I have the required space around my car on all sides for the repair, so I'm being fined daily by my landlord. So I'm missing about 4 hours of work for 3 days in a row; plus the fines; this is costing me about $150 not including the actual repair! And I wouldn't be so mad except for the lies and the fact the boss doesn't care that his employee lied or tries to make it up to me. So at this point I'm about ready to just cancel and go with another company, but the boss finally says he will personally come to my appointment the next morning. And he'll reimburse me for the parking fines, so I agree to keep my appointment. The next morning comes and goes... the time window starts at 8am but the repair man doesn't arrive until 10:30am. (pretty late for a customer they want to apologize to) And the boss is not actually there as promised, more lies. But this has gone on long enough, and I figure they can't do anything else to make this worse, so let him do the repair. What a fool I was! The repair man took my parking permit sticker from the window! The sticker that says in caps lock "PARKING PERMIT", so it's really obvious I need it to park. I call the place again; talk to the lady in the office again; wait for the boss to call me back again; and hours later I finally get the call back and the repair man can't be gotten ahold of, so they don't know where my sticker is. I never got a call back or my sticker back. This company is poorly run! They apparently just lose employees and can't contact them for entire days. The whole thing was ridiculous and my car was towed because I had no sticker, so I was out another $120 for the towing; $25 for the Uber to get to my towed car; and the fee to get a new sticker. All in all, this repair cost me 3 or 4 times more than any other place would have just because of all the drama, lies, and thieving. I will never use Safelite again and I will tell anyone I know the company is poorly run, has no customer service, and is basically a scam. I suggest you go somewhere else! read more

Very difficult experience with Safelite. They replaced my windshield, which promptly leaked. It took multiple calls just to get a possible date for them to repair. Despite a very rainy week, they were unable to give a date until the following week despite explaining my need to travel for military service. When the date finally arrived, the technician called and told me the car needed to go to the shop, and he couldn't help. Appalling service and follow up. Their little "Safelite repair, Safelite replace" jingle doesn't seem to hold water! To follow up and to add insult to injury, just arrived at my 0800 appointment at Safelite. The waiting area is nice, clean and free drinks. I had myself an apple cider. He did such a beautiful job that I couldn't spot the chip at first he had to help me to find where it was. I had a crack in my windshield and contacted my insurance agency to utilize my deductible for repair. I told them I wanted to work with Safelite because when I lived in Houston, they did a great job. When Matthew from the Berwyn location came out to my work to repair the job, evidently he did not do it correctly because I wound up having electrical issues with my car. I brought it in to my mechanic who said it was most likely caused by the windshield. Teddy, from the Joliet location, went to my mechanic and decided nothing was wrong with the windshield. Upon further investigation, my mechanic performed a smoke test and found it it WAS the result of a faulty windshield installation, so Safelite came out to repair the screwed up windshield. I contacted corporate Safelite and customer service rep Marquess Dingess told me that Safelite would cover the mechanic bill. I have forwarded the invoice to him three times and never heard back. Furthermore, when Matthew came to repair the windshield the first time, he messed up my rear view mirror's bracket. Someone else came out from the Berwyn location, looked at it, and said they would have to order a new bracket. That's the last I ever heard from them. I wouldn't bother with these people.
