Stopped in as my fiancé had been here as a child. It's like a speakeasy restaurant. More of a fun experience for kids than adults. Food was average. Be sure to go in the Red door. If you don't know the secrete password you will have to pick something to do to be allowed entry. We had to walk like penguins. This is a truly hidden (like, literally) gem in Milwaukee. Entrance is so hidden away in a dark, creamy street, that I wonder hours I found it in the first place. Don't expect anything. Just go if you're wanting a fun experience with puzzles and games and card games... and experience the life of a spy. I have been at different times of the week, but do find it most fun on the weekends when there are more people. It's more a fun experience than a dinner place. Food is ok, but not for the foodie. It's for the inner spy in you. Mission impossible Burger with potato chips Burger was nicely flavored, nothing crazy to rave about but still yummy. Furtive Fish fry Bit salty, and breading completely detached from the fish. But still a good crunch and the fish was very well seasoned. My sister loves SafeHouse, so I was excited to finally check it out with her. The staff do a great job staying in character, which makes the experience fun, and the cave-like atmosphere and decor are really unique. I like neat eclectic places like this. At first we couldn't even find the front door. Part of all the Fun :) Of course my hubby and I did not know the password, so we got to jump around like kangaroos to get in. Funny. The staff is friendly. The magician Chris is awesome! I highly recommend stopping by to see him. The drinks I had at the bar were yummy. The food is pretty good. The Thunderballs (meatballs) appetizer was ok. The Brisket "Bond Mi" and broccolini slaw was really good. The meat was tender with a really tasty sauce. We have now figured out the password but I won't share it. We were expecting this to be a fun speakeasy little did we know it was going to be playground for children at 9p.m. We showed for our reservation and there was nobody at the entrance. We are no dummies and figured out how to get in. When we checked in at the host desk we were told to wait as our table wasn't ready. The place was at 1/3 capacity at the maximum. We politely waited for 15 minutes while other groups came in a n d were promptly seated and were about to voice our unhappiness when we were seated. Our server Trinity was initially great and helpful. Since we weren't enjoying the table full of kids next to us we only had a single drink and left. However, getting our check leaving through the back entrance took nearly 20 minutes. We spent more time waiting at this place than we did enjoying it. It's a shame as friends had went years ago and said it was a blast, we felt otherwise. read more

Stopped here twice in the last few months: Late March - food was good, service took a little longer than expected but since it was a Saturday night that can happen - fully understandable. The unfortunate part of this trip was waiting for a little over an hour to be seated; was told I would receive a text when the table was ready, but the text never came. Had to ask the hostess and we were promptly seated. Early August - arrived 10 minutes before our reservation and waited again for our table, checked in with the hostess after about 30-40 minutes - again, promptly seated after not receiving a text despite plenty of tables being opened up. However on this trip, we never received our meals. We waited for about an hour fifteen at the table when we were greeted with an apology from the manager, offering to fully foot the bill. We declined this offer as we still wished to pay for the food - again, this stuff happens especially with a large party seated nearby. However we were informed (by our waitress, not the manager) the meals were now not coming out at all. Seemed odd that we had received an appetizer after about 45 minutes at the table but the rest of the order was now just canceled/never placed? Having spent 2 hours at a restaurant to only receive an appetizer to share is highly disappointing. We left for another establishment and had food in front of us within 20 minutes of walking in the door. I'd like to rate this place higher as it's truly a unique experience, the staff all do a great job staying in character and fun can be had for all. Unfortunately, there does seem to be some ongoing issues with restaurant operations here. read more

We enjoyed a great visit at SafeHouse. We had a quick dinner before a show across the street at Pabst Theater. It was just what we needed. Our server was incredible. She was so sweet, funny and helpful. She made our experience even better. Our food was really good. We ordered several things and shared everything. The nachos were a real standout. Safehouse is a really awesome experience from the moment you enter. You really do feel like a spy. Once you're seated you receive a quest card where you are given clues to solve by searching throughout the restaurant. The spy theme decor is thruout the restaurant and is incredible. There is even a magician at the bar. Not only is the experience great but the food is as well. Went with Twists were Bavarian pretzel that are deep fried so it has a little crispy outside and pillowy inside. Honey mustard had nice flavor to it as well as the nacho cheese. Tator tots had nice crisp to them and weren't soggy at all. Onion rings also had a great crunch to them. Went with Moab 18 and it was delicious. Had great beef flavor, the patty was juicy and the egg and bacon added nice saltiness and creaminess. The bun was also soft with a nice buttered crust. Safehouse is a really unique and fun experience with well done America fare. It is a must try experience with great food. You will not be disappointed. read more

The lady at the entrance was incredibly rude, targeted my friend and continued to verbally assault us. We made a reservation and still had to wait, our table was not ready by that time and our waitress was incredibly passive aggressive. We waited for 2 hours and the magician was just doing simple math. all of the cool exits were broken and we ended up being there until after closing waiting for our food. They compensated us by a cardboard equivalent lava cake, when we finally received our food it was incorrect. I feel bad for the underpaid staff who are slaving away in the kitchen. This is the best experience I've ever had at a bar in my entire life! I ordered several drinks including my go to cosmopolitan and a mojito. They both tasted incredible, and exactly the way I expected. My mom loved her margarita and my dad really enjoyed his rum and coke. Every single bartender was friendly and my parents and I had a blast trying to solve the riddle and get the password. My favourite was the magician, it was so fascinating to watch him do tricks. I could have honestly spent hours at that small part of the bar alone but there was so much more to explore. I adored that every room had a fun theme and there was so much to see! I was so captivated by the intricate decor and all the fun details it was hard to focus on solving the mystery. I would definitely come back to Milwaukee just to spend a day here staring at the wall that changes back and forth just to figure out the mystery. To this day I have no idea what it is!! read more

What a really fun experience! Visited for my bday. Didn't know the password so we got a hint. Couldn't get it. We did a little embarrassing dance. Got in. It was fun and cute. The place itself has great old world ambience and it's huge. So many nooks and crannies and different spaces. Lots of cool real artifacts as well as fun signs and clever art. Had a scavenger hunt which was challenging enough yet still easy to figure out and a great activity. There was even a magician doing some good tricks. The service was fast and no pressure to buy food or more than one drink each. Loved the enclosed table themed areas. Seemed really cool and intimate. What an amazingly fun restaurant!! Upon entering we had to either have a password or do something fun to get in... I'm sure it's different for all. We make it to the actual restaurant that was filled with different spy missions to solve while waiting for our food!! The staff was friendly and quick with refills on drinks! The whole restaurant was just awesome! We had a private booth that felt like we were in big trouble in little China!! So worth the money! Foods a little on the pricey side but so delicious!! We didn't make reservations and tried to go during the day. Once we entered the red door we met the host and he asked for password. I didn't have one so the host asked us to hop on 1 leg in circles. Then the host told us to pull down the lever and the wall opened. Down the hallway is another door to the restaurant. The host and server referred everyone as agents or spies. Different dining rooms with different themes. We were still full from earlier but decided on cocktails and appetizers. We had to order cheese curds since we were in Wisconsin. Afterwards my cousin decided to do the scavenger hunt, the list that came with the menu. The waiter not only acted as if she was on coke, but was super unprofessional. The food was fine but we had to wait for 10 extra minutes from when our food arrived to our table to even get utensils. My father is very limited to options for food, and trying to find around that didn't seem hard. we had fish and chips that he likes yet, they're " out of fish ". Come to find out they just aren't able to serve it because they don't have tartar sauce. He ended up ordering plain pasta which he got, but he got a size that had 6 fork fulls of food. Our server went back to the kitchen and asked why and she came back with a response of " come to find out it's an optical illusion and all bowls are the same size ". The one star is for the decor and uniqueness of the restaurant. That is the best review I can give this restaurant. We (party of 6) were informed when we arrived on a Sunday evening about 5:45 PM the wait would be 20 -30 minutes. It was at least 45 minutes. After we were seated and waited another 15-20 minutes, a wait staff person stopped by and said he wasn't our server, but would take our drink order. Those were brought to the table fairly quickly. Another ten minutes passed and he returned saying he was now our waiter due to not knowing where the assigned server had gone. We ordered an order of cheese curds and all the entre items for everyone. The curds were delivered soon after and then the wait began and went on for over an hour. No one returned to refill drinks or give any kind of update. Finally one of our party members got up and talked with another server working nearby. He apologized and said the kitchen was backed up. The area of the restaurant were were seated in was overly warm and loud. Other tables were served. After an unacceptable amount of time, one party member went to talk with the hostess desk up front, threatened to leave, and we were moved to a table near the entrance where it was cooler and quieter. We were told "the food was ready'. It was delivered and 5 of the six meals were cold. We called the manager over and told her about the food. She said she could comp 20% off all the meals. One party member said she wasn't paying for her children's cold food. Those were removed from the bill. Others should have told the manger the same. Actually after waiting two hours, very poor service and cold food, the entire bill for each party member should have been completely covered. The manager claimed 20% was all "she was allowed to do". I am not sure who owns or runs this establishment that has been in Milwaukee for years and years, but something was very wrong this night. No one in the party will ever return. Maybe our patronage doesn't matter to the owners, but it was so disappointing we hope the owner will seek to change their service plan!! read more

SafeHouse is great for a time and a place, but you can definitely find better food, drink, and service elsewhere. It is spy themed and the gimmicks start before you even walk in the door. The entrance can be hard to find, and once you're inside you'll need to know the secret password. If not, you'll have to do something like jump up and down or do the chicken dance. Inside there are both kid and adult spy games you can play as you wait for your food. I didn't like it much when I went with a group of adults, but when I took my nephews we had a blast. They loved all the hidden nooks and crannies and moving objects throughout. Menu is a little pricey with food that is not the greatest. The experience is identical to being a spy. They have just about 1 million real spy signatures all over the walls. I ordered a turkey sub (no bacon), and to be honest, pretty mid sandwich. This is a bucket list place to go to. We were in Milwaukee for a football game. This is an old Speak Easy and you have to enter through a secret passage from the book store. Food was great and service was pretty good. The atmosphere is amazingly prohibition style decor. Very disappointed with our experience at this restaurant. We came in hoping to have dinner with our family, but we were turned away because we didn't have a reservation. What made the situation frustrating was that I stepped outside, went online, and was immediately able to make a reservation for the same time. When we came back in, the person handling reservations was clearly unhappy about it. She was rude, did not welcome us, and barely said a word to me or my family the entire time. The atmosphere immediately felt uncomfortable and unwelcoming. Good customer service goes a long way, and unfortunately this experience left a very bad impression on us. My family and I went here last night for a family fun adventure. We ordered the cheese curds to share which were good. Given other people's reviews I simply ordered a salad. My kids ordered a Mac & Cheese and the other ordered a burger with fries. He also ordered an extra side of tater tots. My husband ordered the club sandwich. The food was just ok. The staff was not very good. They took a long time to take our order and didn't come around for water refills. We walked up to the bar to get more water. We never got silverware so we had to take them from another table. We had leftovers from our meals but they didn't have proper to go boxes so they gave us 2 foil bowls to flip over one of them to cover the food. However, they didn't clasp or stay closed. The best thing about the Safehouse was the experience, the scavenger hunt, and the magician was the highlight. My recommendation is to come here for the experience. I was here not too long ago for the first time to meet some friends one evening. I admit I had to call them to verify the entrance. They good me good intel on the location. Mind you, the entrance is unmarked on an alley. If you're like me and need to make sure you're in the right place especially at night when you're driving around looking for parking, feel free to call like I did. This is a unique experience if you've never been! Once you enter, you'll be greeted in a small lobby and will need to supply the password. I didn't know the password and was required to pass a small "test" to enter the restaurant. No worries, the test is easy. From there, you'll enter the restaurant through a secret entrance. And then, I found my group. I won't spoil some of the surprises for you - as there is more to the entrance here. We ended up ordering the nachos appetizer and the cheese curds and then I got a salad. I ordered the martini which comes flying through pipes above your head (I'm not kidding) and lands in a cup. You'll need a heads-up when your drink is on the way. You'll want to spend some time walking around the restaurant and taking in the spy memorabiilia - really fun spy gear, posters, information, etc. There are nooks and crannies, turns and corners, so it's not your usual "square" of a dining room. While walking around, we even were entertained by an excellent magician doing card tricks at another bar in the restaurant. I was so busy with my guests I didn't get photos of most of our food, but a couple are below. The food was good, but the real fun is the place itself. We arrived early to our party of five reservations and they were able to seat us quickly. The staff was very friendly (shoutout Agent Solar!). Very gimmicky restaurant, family friendly atmosphere. Upon entry, you have to know the password or they will make you do a silly thing. There are multiple TVs in the pub, you can see people's silly performance, which is entertaining.
