I've been in the fish hobby for quite some time, and my two boys (ages 13 and 10) are just starting…read moreto get into it. We have four tanks in our home, and my boys worked hard to save up for their own 20-gallon setup. We cycled the tank properly, tested the water regularly, and added fish slowly. I chose to shop at Oceans Tropical Fish because I wanted to support a local business and was willing to pay more for healthier, higher-quality fish -- especially given the poor reputation of many big box stores. Unfortunately, the fish we purchased from Oceans turned out to be sick with ich. Despite all our precautions, it spread to the entire tank and my boys lost everything they had worked for. I also breed fish myself and currently have about 60 juvenile cichlids, so I'm not new to aquarium care. I went back today to speak with the owner, hoping he'd be willing to make things right. I even offered all my juvenile fish for free in exchange for some help replacing what we lost. Sadly, the experience was disappointing. While the owner clearly knows fish, he runs a poor business. Instead of showing any empathy or professionalism, he spoke down to me, blamed me for the loss, and offered no assistance whatsoever. He even criticized me for having purchased some fish from PetSmart -- fish that were actually added before anything from his store. When I mentioned that several of his own tanks appeared to have sick fish (which he acknowledged), he still deflected all responsibility. I really wanted to support this local shop, but after this experience, I can't recommend Oceans Tropical Fish. Respect and accountability go a long way -- especially when you're dealing with customers trying to help their kids enjoy the hobby.

We saw one of their service vans in front of our neighbors house and asked a few questions about maintenance. They came over and was able to describe everything in our tank. This company provides excellent service with a twist of educating me about the industry, They have been very patient and attentive to all questions/service requests and are very reliable. Six months into the house, our fish look healthy and the aquarium is still a beautiful addition to our Entry way. There is no way it would look like this without OC-FISH amazing service. OC-FISH service Manager Rachael has also recommended and added new additions to the tank (fish and corals) making it look even better than when we first moved in. Definitely a great company to work with.

This business is a joke. Let me explain. I have a very basic 85 gallon tank with 1 red eared slider…read moreturtle and very minimal plants/accessories. It took 3 tries for them to clean my tank right and use correct media for my Fluval FX6 filter. A quick Google search told me more than than one of their employees could. On the last visit, one of the employees tells me that a rock was jamming the filter and that is why the tank was dirty so quickly after cleaning. However, she said she couldn't show me the rock because she threw it back in the tank! Seriously? Also, there is a grate on the intake that prevents rocks from being sucked up and she even acknowledged that it seemed impossible for that to happen. I'm not one to question someone's honesty or integrity, but the whole thing was fishy! Pardon the pun. Either way, even if the employee did not lie about the rock and it somehow miraculously got into my filter, the overall experience with this company has been very bad and to top it all off, they asked me to pay for one of the secondary visits to get my tank cleaned! I would steer clear of this company.

Ken will talk to you up and down your property about what he recommends and how to ensure your pond is as happy as possible without taking a penny from you. Every single recommendation he has given has been 1000x worth the effort and cost to do. Really a great person who you can tell just wants to make sure the customer is right.
