We hired Safe Movers yesterday for my girlfriend's staging company to move furniture and all the fixins from Oakland to Alameda. It was our first time using them for any of her moves. Marcus and Devon were great, very personable, very fast, and understood the complexities of moving large and expensive furniture around. Since it is her business to keep things looking nice, it is especially important that she has considerate movers who are fast and careful. We couldn't be happier. In the circle of not-fancy movers I give these guys: 5 out of 5 for honesty, reliability, and courtesy. Trust 'em not problem at all. They were helpful, helped pack, brought boxes, and for 4 'guys' (um, 2 young guys, 1 young woman, and 1 super professional mover) @ $85 an hour not bad. Careful and conscientious another 5. If you're not familiar with movers 'you get what you pay for' - I've paid less and found slightly more professional, but trust is a biggie, but if you're not familiar with movers and expect polished perfection you'll be paying in the $115-$125 an hour range. It was 4 hours to move 3 bedrooms and 1 couch. Tipped well and it all cost me $400. read more

We were scrambling to find movers last minute, and almost everyone else we called was unavailable. Thank god Nick and his guys could meet us the next day--they were great. They showed up promptly, his workers were extremely professional, friendly (and good-looking!) and handled all of our items with extreme care and expert packaging/padding. They got slightly delayed finding their way to our new place (our area is a bit confusing), and they deducted that time from our cost. In every area, I would rate them "excellent." I would definitely recommend these guys--no doubt at all. I found them using Yelp and the 5-star rating doesn't lie. I had called some other moving companies that had 5 star ratings as well, but none of them picked up the phone or ever bothered to call me back. Weird. But I was happy that the owner of Safe Movers picked up the phone, because after looking through their website I got the idea that customer satisfaction is their primary concern. Boy was I right. So here's the story. I'm pretty good at procrastinating in general, and it didn't help that I was planning a move right when I was due to have a baby. So, of course, my move-out date was about a week after my daughter was born. Needless to say, planning ahead for *anything* around that time was pretty tough. So I called and asked if they had availability for just a few days down the road, and he actually requested to do the move a day earlier! :) I was moving from an apartment in the city to a new house at the top of the hills of Brisbane (up some very windy, narrow streets). I explained this to Nick (the owner) who was very glad I told him about it, and said he would send 2 17-foot trucks because a bigger truck wouldn't make it up there. He quickly emailed me an estimate. Oh yeah and he was very nice and helpful on the phone. Now, to the move day. The movers (I wish I could remember their names!) were amazing. They showed up about a half hour early. Each one of them was super nice. And they moved FAST. No dilly-dallying. Literally they introduced themselves, walked in, and started hauling stuff down the stairs and loading up the trucks. I had a lot of stuff that was sort of half-way packed and not done very well (like I mentioned earlier...planning ahead was kind of hard to do...!), but they didn't complain at all. They quickly got everything into the trucks and we were on our way to Brisbane. Luckily they got their trucks up here just fine! Again, no complaints even though our new place is up some really windy, steep streets with very sharp turns. They unloaded everything very quickly, got all the large furniture set up exactly how we wanted it, and finished really fast. All in all it only took 4 1/2 hours. I wouldn't have expected it, but 4 1/2 hours was exactly what Nick had estimated it would take them! However his final price ended up being *lower* than his original estimate. How he worked that out, I don't know, but he was happy to give a little discount. All in all, I had a great experience with these guys. Not one thing was damaged at all, everything was very fast, the guys were efficient and very friendly. Not to mention their prices are among the lowest I was able to find (their hourly rates are on their website). If you are looking to move in the Bay Area, definitely call these guys. read more

We just finished our 2nd move with Safe Movers, and in the end they earned our 5 stars. They aren't perfect, in fact, they're suffering a few growing pains right now as they had a mix up in our move time. Guess it helps to confirm the night before. Nick stepped up though, and alleviated the situation by adding an extra man to our team - dramatically sped up the process. Rod, Jaquin, Scotty, and Dominic were an extremely professional team and powered through the hot day. This is the first local move in all of my 8+ years of moving around that actually went well. They moved us from SF all the way out to the burbs in Benicia. Nothing was broken... not even my cheap Ikea furniture that could easily fall apart in the wrong hands (these were white too, and they didn't even get dirty which is almost unbelievable). They really do deserve the 5 star rating, they worked hard, they were FAST, courteous, on time, and professional. We were referred to Safe Movers by a friend who used them for their move from Oakland to Berkeley, and raved about their service. When we moved from San Francisco to Sonoma County we hired Safe Movers to pack everything and move us. We had lived in our house over 20 years, so there was a lot to deal with. It was as easy a process as I can imagine moving could be. We had a team of 5 packing up the house (one day), and 4 trucks to move us (next day). The entire team was professional, kind, and calm. They were both highly efficient and very attentive. Leave the logistics to them - they know what they're doing. They know how long it will take, how many trucks it will require, and how much it will cost. They are honest, caring (to each other as well as to everyone they encountered) and organized. A Great Moving Experience: On May, 2016 I had Safe Movers ("Elmer" Nick Shannon) moved me a couple miles from a three-bedroom townhome to a five-bedroom detached house in north Contra Costa County. After 15 years at being at one spot, there was quite a bit of stuff that needed be sorted through and packed. The day before the move, he sent a team to pack and dismantle all of my stuff and prep it for move the next day. The move went flawlessly, and by the end of the afternoon I was set up in my new spot. Elmer's team help reassemble all of the furniture, and even help me unpack and sort kitchenware and sundries into the new pantry. He also helped be get rid of the copious amount of packaging that comes with the new appliances, furniture, etc. for the house and hauled away the stuff I set aside for Goodwill. I found Nick and his team to be incredibly professional, hardworking and pleasant to work with. A short time later he moved my business partner who was equally satisfied with the results. Elmer offer me pricing that was competitive, not the lowest / not the highest, but I would urge folks *not* take the cheapest route with the people who will move all of your physical possessions at once. This is my first-ever Yelp post, which means that I felt pretty strongly that these guys did a great job. We called them last-minute to help us move over Memorial Day weekend. They book 3 weeks in advance and we called them 5 days in advance and they still made time for us instead of going to a barbecue. They showed up with 3 guys, on time to the minute, assessed our things, and handled everything with care (better than we would have!). They wrapped our large items (couch, armchair, mattresses) in blankets and plastic wrap and even helped us pack our own cars. They made it to our new address with no problem, swiftly unpacked everything, and helped us unpack our cars. It took them 3.5 hours total. Definitely recommend them, and will use them the next time I move! read more

Sadly, we had a lot of things go wrong with Safe Movers. Our move was from Oakland to Walnut Creek. Based on the 5 star reviews, I was pretty confident everything would go smoothly. However, that was not the case. First, we used their packing service. For the most part, the packers did a great job. They were fast and efficient. The only issue here was that once we unpacked, we found they had packed a rather fragile mounted print with it's face against a very heavy metal mirror which resulted in the piece of art being completely damaged. The next day the movers showed up right on time. They were really, really nice guys. We had Reggie, Tony, Mike and Michael. For the first couple hours, things seemed to be moving really fast. As the day went on, problems started to pile up... A lot of pieces of furniture were disassembled for the move (a bed, some desks). All of these pieces of furniture had little screws that were NOT taped to the furniture during the move. Consequently, we had no idea where the screws were once we were in our new place. In fact, as the movers were leaving our new house, one of them handed me a handful of loose screws that belonged to the desks. We never found the rest of the screws and my husband ended up having to order some online so we could reassembly our furniture. REALLY annoying. With so much experience and so many excellent reviews, this seems like a pretty basic concept. Also, despite arranging and rearranging our furniture several times, they could not make it all fit on the 2 trucks. My husband ended up having to move some stuff himself, including a large TV. Still, a lot of things were left at our old house, (which are still there since we don't have a vehicle large enough to move them). So even though the packers did a great job and labeled everything really well, almost nothing got put in the correct room. Almost everything got left in the garage, leaving my husband to move many, many boxes. This really sucked. What's the point of labeling everything if nothing gets moved into the correct room? Once again, I will say, the movers were incredibly nice guys and I truly wish I could have given a better review. Three years ago I used Jay's Small Moves and they did a great job. Wish I had used them this time again. Bummer. read more

They were moving as fast as they could and moved us from Oakland to Pittsburg in 7 hours. They were careful and considerate and always asked where certain items needed to go. Best deal in town and GREAT customer service. That sounds like a canned response, but it's real. Here's what differentiated Elmer and his team: 1. The team (and there was one woman) all introduced themselves and were very friendly and accommodating. 2. We had a miss communication (I changed the date and it didn't get communicated to the dispatcher. Elmer, responded immediately in the best way possible "my bad, I'll have a team and truck there within the hour." That show real customer service. 3. One of our cheap (as in $5.99 mirrors from Target was broken) the moving team point it out at the end of the move and said they wanted to compensate us for the broken mirror. That was my bad for buying such cheap stuff. After they left, my daughter captured the experience.. best $500 we ever spent. Thanks Guys! read more
