Ducktrap Kayak has a really sparse website, but don't let that fool you--they know what they're doing. Rental prices are very reasonable, and they will either help you strap the kayaks to your car or pick you up and drop you off at your convenience. The guy we spoke with was super knowledgable and suggested we kayak around Lake Megunticook (rather than in the ocean), which ended up being a fabulous choice. Even in early June, the water was warm enough to swim in, and there are several 'islands' where you can dock your kayak and stop for a bite to eat or a swim. We started early, so it felt like we had the lake to ourselves! Before he pushed us off, the owner gave us a rundown of how to work the kayaks and some tips for having a great trip. We also observed several harbor seals on the cruise. As an added bonus, the weather happened to be perfect this morning. Dogs are allowed on the boat, our mini poodle also loved her outing today. We highly recommend this cruise if you have never been to the Penobscot Bay area before.

This one caught our eye because it was a smaller vessel with only 4-6 passengers and it was made out of fiberglass. The salesperson was very nice and sold us on this boat. The captain was nice, but probably not the best tour guide although the gave us interesting tidbits of information particularly regarding the lobster industry. It was a beautiful day for sailing and I really enjoyed. I did like that there were only six passengers and one crew plus the captain. Definitely would recommend this schooner!

From the Caribbean to Maine, the worst boatyard operating today…read more My dinghy and motor were stolen while in their possession. They subcontracted the bottom sanding and painting. Did not follow my instructions; they did not even sand the bottom prior to painting; it's guaranteed to fail. They serviced the engine, including the impeller; then overheated the motor. They then replaced the impeller a second time - which works fine - but charged me for the re-do. They also overfilled the engine and generator with oil. They overfilled the coolant on the generator. They under filled the engine coolant by more than a liter. They left the Turbo exhaust hose clamp loose and leaking. Then charged me 8.5 hours for sea trial and quality control. There is more, but you get the idea... Poor maintenance. No supervision. No quality control. And for all this premium boatyard experience, they delivered the boat 8 weeks late - half the cruising season in Maine! Lyman-Morse: the worst of the worst!

My friend and I are celiac and the chef kept us safe. Stunning views and sea breezes galore. You want to do nothing? Find a spot on deck and do nothing. You want to be active? Hoist sails, raise the anchor. When at anchor swim, row. Plenty to do. As others have said, the walls are thin but they provide ear plugs. Yes the cabins are small, but it's an 1871 schooner not a cruise ship. Get up on deck and use your cabin to sleep. Everyone is friendly.

The food by Chef Juice, they call him was absolutely 5 stars ! From the best cheeses from around the world hand picked by Capt. Noah and his wife Jane were absolutely fantastic ! They take pride in their appetizers before a wonderful meal ! All the meals are hand made and out of this world ! The trip was almost fog free and we went around many of the Maine islands and had the wonderful lobster bake on Russ island, a favorite of Captain Noah's ! The crew on this trip was absolutely amazing ! They were absolutely spit on with detail and did everything they could to make you feel welcome on such a special schooner cruise. If you haven't taken a schooner cruise, I highly recommend that you give it a try! 3/4 of my sons have gone and they loved it ! Once again, I give this trip a 5 star review !
