Ken is the man! While at another well-known tire store, I was informed after a tire rotation, that my rear breaks were at 3mm and needed work. I was quoted $399. Something didn't feel right, so I contacted Ken at Safe Auto Service and made an appointment. I brought the car to Safe Auto. They did a test drive and pulled the wheels apart for inspection. Ken informed me my brake pads were good and did NOT need service. He could have just as easily confirmed I needed work and charged me. An HONEST man! Brought my 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 in to have the AC checked (blowing warm). Thoroughly checked all systems and checked for any leaks/repairs required. Determined a recharge was all that was necessary. My windshield wiper pump was dead. I called the local Subaru dealer and told them what I thought the problem was. They replied that since it was still spraying in the rear it could be a variety of things and it would be a 166 dollars to diagnose. I called SAFE Auto and told them that what I thought the problem was. They repaired it for less than the cost for the dealership to diagnose it. My wife and I have had other work done at SAFE Auto. I cannot say enough good things about this small business establishment, the owner Ken, is terrific, honest, & extremely affordable, I had them fix my AC earlier in the year, but this time I was stressing, I was about to drive 800 miles with my cats and my car was acting hesitant, although he was busy, he was able to get me in the next day, I dropped my car off weds morning at 730, and had my car back by 3pm. So glad I didn't try to drive without getting things checked out, apparently I had a mouse & his family (along with a ton of stuffing) living in my air box, he replaced my filter and air mass sensor and the car drives like a dream, not only that, but I was getting in the high 30's for gas mileage on my long journey south. I needed to find a local auto mechanic that I could trust. I came to Yelp and saw the fantastic reviews here. I called the shop and the owner (Ken) answered the phone. I explained I have a relatively new Mazda and that when I travel above 60 MPH, the front end of the car was "wobbling." Ken was polite and had no problem scheduling an appt for the next day. Also, I couldn't bring my car in until 10:30 and I told him I would understand if he was too busy to give me a ride home and that I could walk. He said he would make note to have someone available at that time to give me a lift back home while they worked on the car. Today, I drove to the garage at 10:30. Ken immediately greeted me...no waiting time at all. He remembered me from the day before and our phone convo. He offered to give me a ride back home immediately. I received a phone call from him in a very short period of time. He explained that he checked the wheel bearings, shocks and other things..His diagnosis was the tires needed to be replaced. I asked him what I owed him for the labor to diagnose. He said that I owed him nothing and that he simply just hoped to see me again when I needed the car to be serviced. He came back to my home right away to pick me up. True gentleman, easy to speak to, has ethics..I was blown away at the entire experience. The owner Ken is amazing. I woke up to a flat tire from a screw and a hundred mile drive ahead of me to catch a flight from JFK airport back home in a few hours. Talk about a time crunch stressful situation and wondering if I should just chance the drive and a blowout. Firestone down the road refused to help out, but Ken, even though they were busy, squeezed me in and took care of the problem asap and got me on the road. Amazing customer service. My daughter's car was in need of an alignment so I called a local garage owner that was referred to me long ago as a great and honest mechanic. His garage did not have the equipment to do alignments so he referred me to Ken at Safe Auto Service. When my kids were young, I use to always say I want to take them to the doctor that the doctor takes their own kids to. Now the same goes for my vehicles. I want to take my car where a good, honest mechanic would take his own car. And that is Ken at Safe Auto Service. Anyway, Ken performed the alignment and was done when he said he would be, didn't find (or make up) any other problems that needed repaired and the cost was very reasonable. I was very satisfied with the experience, so much so that when my car needed a major repair, I called Ken. I get my cars oil changed by a neighbor. He explained that my vehicle was cupping and in need of struts, shocks and an alignment. I again called Ken at Safe Auto Service. Not really knowing what cupping was and never hearing the term, I didn't give Ken much information other than maybe needing an alignment. He set up an appointment which he made in a very timely manner. Ken diagnosed the problem and nearly word for word described what my neighbor said was wrong, including using the term cupping. Ken was upfront with all aspects of the costs and repairs and provided great communication along the way. Ken is professional, courteous and is easy to communicate with. Lengthy but well worth reading (especially ladies). I've been taking my Jeep to the same dealership I purchased it from 5 years ago in Wallingford for maintenance & services (won't mention their name). Several months ago, when I went for my oil change, they told me that my front brakes really needed to be replaced including the rotors. I asked if it could wait...the mechanic hesitated & then said that "maybe," it will last until my next oil change. Since I am in the process of purchasing a house, every dollar counts. My next oil change was up & I decided to call Safe Auto because let's face it, dealerships are expensive! I spoke with Ken at Safe Auto who was very nice & got me in 1st thing Saturday morning (today) per my request. I dropped off my car & about 30 minutes later, I got a call from Ken. Let's face it, I was expecting to hear what other things I needed done. To my surprise, Ken informed me that my brakes looked really good & he wasn't sure who told me I needed them but that I could go ANOTHER 15,000 miles before getting my brakes done!! He went on to say that he could've easily replaced them, not say anything & make some money but he wouldn't feel right in doing so and wanted to be honest with me. I couldn't believe my ears! I thought, "Is this guy for real?" It's really difficult to find an honest autoshop like Safe Auto especially for individuals like myself who know very little about cars. Yes, Ken did not make as much this morning by just doing an oil change but his act of kindness, honesty and integrity just bought him a lifetime customer and recommendations to anyone looking for an honest, nice, and trustworthy individual. We brought my wife's car to Safe Auto to get a second opinion on work that Firestone said we needed to have done. She had gone to Firestone to have her oil changed and tires rotated (she had previously paid for a lifetime alignment service). They claimed that the car had bad tire rods and that they would be unable to align them and that she also needed new tires. When I took the car to Safe Auto, they inspected the car right away and showed me that the tire rods were fine. They also assured me that the tires were in good shape and were not a safety concern (Firestone tried to sell her almost $700 of unnecessary parts/labor). Ken at Safe Auto was very helpful and did not charge us for taking a look. I will only be trusting our cars with Safe Auto in the future. read more
