a view of a restaurant from across the street

Before all the micro breweries started to pop up, there was Saddle bar letting us bring our own food. Right in the heart of solana beach, it's an alternative to one or more good spots of Del Mar. Park around neighborhood and walk down to this place to catch your breath.

We love dive bars and this one is across the street from our friend's beach house. What better way to go bar hopping than to walk! Once we were seated it didn't take long for Sam to come over and take our orders. She was the only bartender with a bar full of happy patrons. When a person walked in the door, she was quick to smile and wave, pop the top off a beer and slide it on over. Such a great Cheers vibe! Thank you to Sam for such a warm welcome and for keeping the drinks coming. I wish we had a place like this in our neighborhood.

This is your neighborhood, all-American bar. They pour strong drinks, have a large bar top with counter seats, have some seating options in booths, and also have a small dance floor for people who feel the want/need to boogie after a few. Come in your usual wear, dress up, or sport a cowboy hat and you'll fit right in!

So today we went back to pill box Tavern, and we're lucky enough to have Adrianne as our server... She was fantastic and the food was just as fantastic. But the Chef here does that really pleases me is he understands or she texture. My breakfast burrito today was the perfect texture, a crispy taught a light egg the perfect amount of cheese and sausage when you add it all up it's just a delicious dish. And how cool is this? I asked if I could borrow one of their hats to put in a picture and when I told them I'd become the Duke of pill box on my way out, she gifted me with the hat thank you, Yelp. We will be back and everyone in this area should try it for lunch or dinner, sit on the beautiful patio or sit inside.

They were very nice and attentive. This is just a few blocks from the beach so you can walk off all the food and drinks you just ate. They have a good selection of food and drinks. I think most bars have mediocre food but this place is really good! I loved their potato skins and bbq ribs! The skins had the perfect crisp with cheese and bacon on top. The bbq ribs were fall off the bone tender! I got it with fries but it usually comes with beans and coleslaw. Fries were so good and crispy! They have like 10 different sauces and dry rubs for the ribs. I got the old bay and buffalo. The wings were crispy and pretty big. I'll definitely be back to hang out and check out more dishes!

Our party of four decided to have the Lime in da Coconut and Gin Blossom cocktails. Very tasty! Appetizers were enticing, so we tried the Wagu meatballs, crispy firecracker shrimp, and lobster dumplings. One order of each was enough to allow each of us to have a piece or two of each appetizer, which was a great and cost effective way to taste the delicious food. The entrees we had were the chicken enchiladas, herb crusted salmon, macadamia nut crusted sea bass, and the blackened ribeye. Again, absolutely delicious! The tavern itself is not huge. The dark walls are covered with colorful and interesting posters. Really nice! The restrooms were clean and well maintained. Always a big plus! Overall wonderful dinner! That time we saw Ricki Lee Jones and Mike. Fun show! We will be back with a much larger party to enjoy the food, and see Rachel and Tilray. Looking forward to another great time! Thank you! Nancy

For a person who's not a dater, like me, this was very fun and entertaining. The f to m ratio was about 1:4, so if you are a transactional type of gal, looking for a guy with one foot in the grave and another on a banana peel, , you're under the age of 60 or probably 50, even younger, this is definitely the place for you! Not my kinda thing, but hey no judgments here, if it's your thing all the best to ya and have fun! I try to make good decisions. Pizza Port, a local favorite on the main road up and down the coast, has served up their fresh made pizzas and self-brewed beers since 1987. Now situated across a few locations within San Diego county, this spot is where it all started. The brewpub holds a great dining space with seating indoors and out, arcades for those looking for a bit of entertainment, and a bar tap full of their own creations sure to satisfy all tastes. Street parking or public transport is how you'll get here but once you've arrived, might as well stay awhile as Solana Beach has much to offer. Head on inside and peruse their menu of pizzas to the left and beers to the right. You'll order the food and drinks separately but I recommend putting in the order for the food first as it'll take about 15-20 minutes to cook it up. In addition to pizzas, they have salads as well so you can get a nice balanced meal. All of their pizzas are made fresh unless you decide to order slices I suppose (I've always ordered the whole pizzas). As you wait, grab a drink and some seats and chill awhile. All of their tables have napkins dispensers and you can get the shakers for additional parmesan cheese or peppers. They also have a self service water and soda station. Their pizzas are delicious and generous with the toppings. If you're a pepperoni fan, they do a fine job spreading them out and crisping them up. Their white sauce pizzas are pretty good as well; creamy and melty which pairs well with the toasty and springy crust. I've never had a bad pizza here so you won't go wrong with your order. The staff are friendly and helpful. You'll definitely get the socal vibe here if you're not a local. Very hospital and relaxed atmosphere. Overall, Pizza Port is a great destination for out of towners to get a taste of the San Diego pizza and beer scene. In addition, it's a watering hole for many locals so you're bound to meet some folks who live or work nearby and perhaps can provide you a few other recommendations of places to visit and things to eat. Consider coming out to some of their local events too or checking out their other locations further south; it's always a good time for pizza and brews!

If your sitting inside facing the other way, you just see the inside of the place but there are some cute bartenders there so that's a pretty good view too! One of the bartenders was tall with big muscles, which is the opposite of my ex who's short and has small muscles. That's right- Paul and I finally split up. So I'm 1000% back on the market. My friend Kaytie threw a "Reverse Bachelorette Party" for me which is why we came to Viewpoint Brewing. Kaytie is still married, but she can have fun behind Brian's back every now and then. Who cares? Men cheat on their wives all the time, so why can't us girls have some fun too every now and then? Especially when it's a reverse bachelorette party. Donna and Tracey were there too. Donna was trying to be sober because she had to work the next day, so she was only gonna have a glass of wine or whatever. The wine at this place is good! The food is good too! Tracey is kind of old- she's more Kaytie's friend than she is mine, but whatever. I wonder if this is a location on eBird. Yes, I am a dork. I came here years ago while on a business trip and randomly found this place and loved it here. So when a date suggested we come here, I took a look at the venue and remembered what an awesome brewery this is! Date gets some brownie points for chosing this spot, maybe this could go somewhere haha. Parking is a situation here. But if you go past the restaurant, there is some parking on the road and in small lot meant for those enjoying nature. I felt bad taking one of these spots. There is paid public parking on the corner before the restaurant and valet is available at this brewery. I need to figure out another way to get here... On a Sunday afternoon, place had people but it wasnt mobbed. Baseball game and Del Mar horse races were showing on the TVs. But, don't come here to watch TV, look outside! I saw some very good bird action, including an egret doing some weird strutting in the lush greenery. I am bummed I forgot to bring my binoculars but I will be back here again soon with binocs ready! I started off with a hefeweisen and that was good, date had a Mexican lager x 2. I had the ceviche (pretty good) and had the aioli on the side. Date had a sandwich of some kind and copious amounts of fries. It took a lot of will power for me to not have any of those fries, they looked so yummy! I also had a watermelon beer, this had hints of watermelon flavor and I enjoyed it. Great spot for large groups too as there were a few large parties sitting in the "outside" space. Hostess initially asked if we wanted to sit "inside" or "outside," and I was confused as it all looked like outside to me haha. I guess this is SoCal, everything is open air. This is a nice spot to have convo, very spacious, lots of nice tables, we sat at a high top. I love perching higher up, kinda of like a bird haha! Waitresses here were all very good, some very cute too (eye candy is always appreciated). Overall, a really fun way to spend a Sunday summer afternoon! I'll be back!
