Sacred Tiger is the epitome of how a tattoo shop should be run. I started getting tattooed by George Hernandez in 2009. Since then, he has been, and will always be, my tattoo artist. Before that, I had gotten tattooed a a few local shops. Although they always did a great job, I never really felt comfortable in the other shops. Whether it's an artist with a bad attitude or gangster rap blaring nonstop, a tattoo shop can either be a great place to be, or if you are comfortable with yourself, an absolute nightmare. When George opened up shop in Davis, it was a welcoming experience. First of all, when you walk into the shop, you feel completely and totally welcome. This can go either way depending on the tattoo shop. Either you are going to get a "F*4k off!" vibe, or you are going to get a sense of trust. Sacred Tiger in the latter type of shop. It's extremely hygienic, airy, and has plenty of natural light. They also have a great taste in music that won't stress you out. I mention the music part because they care about their customers and want them to be as comfortable as possible. Let's be honest, a tattoo is fairly traumatic to your body, and the last thing you want to do is hear E40 blasting, especially if it may be your first tattoo. They want you to become a returning client, and the shop is indicative of that. Whether it's George Hernandez, Mike Jupp, or Freddy greeting you, you feel comfortable. They are all extremely friendly guys who know how to handle people and they leave their egos at the door. They are always open to new ideas and see tattooing as an art, not as a hassle. They love what they do. If you want to make modifications to their ideas and concepts, they are all for it. Walk up customers are always welcome, and if they can't accommodate you that day, they will schedule an appointment. Another great thing about the guys is that if you have an appointment, they hold true to the appointment. Due to the fact that they are all extremely talented and busy, sometimes larger, more intricate pieces may require some time to wait for your tattoo. However, don't worry. It's always better to wait for an amazing tattoo as opposed to rushing someone for a mediocre tattoo. You wait for the talent.
Like I stated earlier, George has been tattooing me since 2009. I chose George because he has put together pieces that many other artists wouldn't attempt or was deemed "too hard" or "not their style". The truth is that although George does specialize in certain styles, you can bring him anything and he can turn it into art. He has imagination and creativity and truly loves what he does. He doesn't see your tattoo as a flat canvas, but rather, he builds his tattoos in layers. I can't say enough about how much I respect George as an artist.
Mike Jupp has also tattooed me and has done a brilliant job. Again, the idea that I had wouldn't have been touched by some artists because what I wanted was relatively small. Mike jumped in there and provided detail and intricacy that can't be beat.
I haven't received any work by Freddy, but I have seen his work, and again, it's top notch.
