Came in on a Monday afternoon, off peak hours, and I ordered the namesake dish (Sabri Nihari), garlic naan, and a mango lassi. The Sabri Nihari was truly one of the best dishes I've ever had. Imagine a perfectly tender pot roast but more exotically spiced, though still hearty. Naan was excellent, but order it x2, so that you have plenty to sop up the gravy as you go. The jalapeño and ginger to garnish the meat, with a squeeze of lemon, are a nice touch. I'd like to try some of the other dishes next time I'm in, but not sure I'll be able to go with something other than the Sabri Nihari. Bravo. read more

I came to this place in my teenage years with family to enjoy Chicago is best Pakistani Nihari. This is a staple stop whenever I am in Chicago... in fact, at times I go there just so I can visit Devon street and go to Sabri Nihari is always good and I love their garam garam kulchay n naans. Plenty of room to sit and can accommodate big groups. Carry out portions are always big! Why only 4 stars? Well, the waiters could be more friendly, and the bathrooms definitely should be cleaner! read more

Amazing Nihari and updating my prior review to say that the food we received today was particularly fresh. Samosas were straight out of the fryer and the nihari made my taste buds sing. The keema naan is a excellent side to take for a light lunch or as an addition to your meal! I highly recommend this establishment and a small tip for my friends who have trouble with spice - add the green yogurt to your dish and it will mild out the dish while adding some fresh garden flavors! read more

Sabri Nihari Restaurant - Butter chicken, bihari kabob - Pakistani Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

Really delicious Pakistani food at very generous portions. This is one of my partner's favorite places to indulge in authentic Pakistani food. While the prices are a bit higher, the portions are well matched for the price as well as the nice ambiance of the dining area. The combo BBQ platter is much larger and generous portion of meat than the picture displayed on the menu. I loved all the varieties of chicken in the combo but I was not as big of a fan of the beef kebab and the piece of marinated skirt steak. I felt like the skirt steak was over marinated and the beef was just falling apart in your mouth and had a very unpleasant texture. I also was not a huge fan of the seekh kebab, same thing regarding texture and flavor wasn't very memorable. But that's ok - this is why it's good to try the combo to figure out what each personal likes and dislikes are. I absolutely love the frontier chicken dish and think that this is a great option for anyone who is looking for a more approachable dish to order at this restaurant! We also tried the seekh fry which my husband describes as mashed up seekh kebab fried in butter. He liked this dish whereas I was not a fan of the texture or flavor - I think he finds it a comforting dish so take my review with a grain of salt on this. We've previously tried the beef nihari before and found it delicious but be prepared for it to be spicy! Naan and paratha were excellent here and came piping hot and fresh to the table. There's also a fresh veggie dish along with two sauces (traditional raita and another tart sauce with a tamarind base that I'm a huge fan of) that go with every meal to compliment the entrees. Overall, this place has delicious food and friendly service. Probably would not come back for dessert as I didn't find it particularly alluring but could be good for those looking for a taste of faluda. BUT do try the mango lassi because it is delicious! read more

This is one of my favorite neighborhood Indian places. I love their lamb stew with their over sized naan. The dish itself is on the expensive side but I don't mind it due to getting 2-3 servings. Whenever, I am craving Indian food, this is the spot I go. Love the vibe and ambiance for the dine-in experience as well. It's always a fun eating alongside others as they eat over a huge dinner table. Location is walking distance from me, neat restaurant and the food is good. Will definitely recommend this spot and shall go back again. read more

If you are Pakistani in then USA, you know about Sabri nihari because their nihari is amazing. My family has been going to their restaurant since 1999. We recently visited Sabri back in November 2021! Yes, it's an amazing restaurant worth coming back for and taking food to Michigan as to go. Beside Nihari, I recommend trying their curry, rice, and traditional Pakistani food. There are plenty of vegetarian options as well. Their might be a waiting line, buts it's definitely worth coming back for! read more

I haven't had nihari in almost 3 years. Screw everything, the only demand I had on my wish list for Chicago was...Nihari! And, the one place they serve Nihari is HERE. The French have their beef bourguinion and the South-Asians have this gorgeous, thick gravy of succulent fall apart stewed meat, Nihari. Needless to say, Sabri lives up to its solid reputation. We had dinner at western standard time as we had to head to the airport after, so the place was sparsely occupied. The service was great. Bihari kebab was solid and very spicy but delicious. Again haven't had it in 3 yrs, so I almost cried at the satisfaction. I recently learned to cook kadai chicken and this was a good litmus test to how my one tastes. Nihari was so satisfying. The gravy was delicious, the meat was tender and with the warm and soft naan, felt like home. And, while Sabri Nihari's Nihari probably cannot beat my favorite place, it made me appreciate that a place like exists that serves this gorgeous dish. I wish I could have packed the leftovers up and taken it on flight with me to Nashville. Meat lovers who have no idea what Nihari is, do yourself a favor and make a trip here. Also, devon street has really cleaned itself up, since I was last there about a decade ago. Of course, I am going to be back here whenever I can be in Chicago. read more

I think this place is very overhyped. The food is quite mediocre and expensive. The service and ambiance are quite nice as it's pretty unusual for pakistani restaurants to have decor and class. Better places to eat at Devon read more

An incredible spot for Indian/Pakistani food, definitely my favorite find for this genre in Chicago. We got the mutton biryani, frontier chicken and dal ghosht. I think the absolute showstopper/must order was the dal ghosht - the goat was perfectly tender and it was the table favorite. Can't wait to go back!! read more

I had the chicken makhani and samosas. They were delicious. Can't wait to try it again.

Very nice and clean restaurant with great service. Sabri Nihari and frontier chicken were fresh, hot, and delicious with garlic naan. Food came very fast as well. Large servings, one entree could probably feed two easily. Only issue was some of the frontiers chicken wasn't boneless but otherwise great food and experience. read more

I've been going to this restaurant for many years. Always had the best fresh food that kept us coming back. Sadly, can't say this was our experience today. Sunday around 1;00 pm. We ordered the vegetable Briani which has always been fresh and full of flavor. We also ordered the butter chicken and vegetable summons. The Briani was so disappointing. Looked like it was pre-made and reheated in heavy oil. I mentioned this to the waiter but he assured me it was made today. Don't agree just not up to the standards I am accustomed to. While I understand prices have gone up. 78.00 for a mediocre lunch, doesn't sit well with me. Don't think I will return. Just not worth the money. read more

Went with a big group to celebrate the approaching arrival of our baby boy. I don't think anyone was disappointed with their food--and there was a whole lot of it. I really enjoyed the restaurant's namesake dish, which was my first time having it. Naan and chicken boti were solid. The place has a homey and authentic feel with lots of other large groups and families there late on a Saturday night. The service was fine and even with a large order, we didn't wait long for the food. read more

Sabri is different than your run-of-the-mill Indian restaurants. What sets it apart is their Nihari, or beef stew, originally a Muslim dish from Northern India and Pakistan. The large chunk and beef has been simmered for hours and the Nihari is thick, aromatic, and goes extremely well with naan and paratha. We also ordered the frontier chicken, which was moisture, flavorful, and very spicy. We really liked both of the entrees, but my favorite at Sabri is their mango Lassi, one of the best I had and it's a must get to go along with spicy food. Overall, I highly recommend Sabri not only because it's a specialty cuisine at its best, but also because it is amazing value. Across 4 of us, our bill only came out to be 90 post-tip. read more

Finally got up to Sabri Nihari, since the mental block of driving 25 minutes up to Devon was apparently too much for me to bear. Overall, solid. The Haleem curry was spectacular and full of flavor, and did very well on the reheat since there was way too much of this for one person for only $13.49. The palak paneer was good, but a little too thin for me given what I'm used to with other Indian and similarly-flavored ethnic dishes. (Also, it was a bit light on the cheese.) Breads were good, but not top-of-class. Lots of dining space here so if you are bringing a large group you will be in good shape. Again, incredible value for the price! read more

Went here with a group of friends based on a couple independent reviews from South Asian friends. Dined here as a group of six on 8/25/18. I'm green and uninformed regarding the regional cuisine, and one of my aforementioned friends attended this outing. The ambiance and setting were a cut above what I expected. Overall the decor was clean, vibrant, and elegant. The service was solid, prompt, and reasonable. Something amazing and hilarious about the menu. Their English descriptions were so tempting :"Masterfully barbecued." "Delight the senses." Loved it, made me want to order everything! We ate garlic Naan, plain rice, Sabri Nihari beef stew (money dish), paneer palak, Chicken Charga. Most of these were recommended by my friend and I would eat them all again. Also we kept ordering Mango and plain Lassis after we tried one. I kind of want one now as I compose this review with the 90 degree heat outside. The prices were slightly higher than what I expected but not bad $16 per person after the gratuity was included. Worth a revisit! read more

I ordered four dishes, I can't recall the last one because I forgot to jot it down but I was disappointed. I ordered this for a group of 4 people, thinking that we can each try a bit of everything. Well, there's no set standard for the portions so not all the portions allow for us to try a bit of everything, especially not the Sabri Nihari. I walked here from my house, it's less then a ten minute walk from Devon and Leavitt to their location. It's not far and you can easily spot their bright sign. They are located on the corner of Campbell and Devon. Street parking is accessible and their entrance is also friendly for individuals with disabilities. I ordered: Vegetable samosa- stuffed potatoes with spicy vegetables with the choice of their house made sauce of either yogurt sauce or sweet sauce. The appetizer includes four medium sized samosas. Sabri Nihari- super disappointed by the lack of meat for this! We ordered to go so the food was in a medium size container and inside was SO much sauce that you literally had to go fishing for the meat. For the $11.95 that you're paying for just the meat without rice or any other sauce, this is not worth it. It's delicious but not that great. Chicken Charga- this was honestly absolutely delicious! It was deep fried chicken mixed in with vegetables, it was sooo good with the sweet sauce that accompanies the samosa!! Keep in mind you're literally just eating the chicken without any sides. Since the chicken biryani lacked any chicken, I put a cup of this over the biryani. The spices of the biryani mixed in with this was really good! Chicken Biryani- Chicken mixed into basmati rice and sautéed onions seasoned with spices. The portion for this was the biggest.... But go figure why, it barely had any chicken and had an abundant amount of basmati rice mixed in with spices!! If there was chicken, it was very small servings of it and because of the spices, caused clusters in the rice! It was hard to tell if the piece was chicken or just rice chunked to gather. It was spicy and I highly recommend pouring their special yogurt over this. I can't recall what the last meal was but it was spicy. If you can't handle spicy food, ask for their house made yogurt, it is the perfect way to cool down!! Their food is incredibly flavorful and I highly recommend not eating this as your first meal of the day because it is strong. The food is delicious but keep the Tums nearby, trust me! read more

Pakistani restaurant on Devon Ave. It's one of the larger restaurants on the street, and has one of the more upscale interiors. The place was busy when we went, probably because it was a holiday. We waited for about 10-15 minutes for a table. Ordered a variety of dishes and a lot of naan. Out of the dishes, the tandoori chicken was a bit dry, and the butter chicken was merely okay. However, the frontier chicken and the mutton curry (forgot the name) were delicious with a lot of flavor. We also really liked the garlic naan they had, which had that nice aroma and soft texture. We also tried their kulfi (ice cream) and it was alright. Overall it was an enjoyable meal with some okay items and some really good items. read more

Sabri Nihari Restaurant - bunches of dishes and garlic naan - Pakistani Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

I heard great things about this restaurant so a friend and I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, neither of us were impressed. Chicken Pakora was decent. Chicken wasn't dry and had a little flavor- better when dipped in sauce. Bihari kabob did not look like the photo which I wouldn't have minded if the meat wasn't so dry. The spice level was good but because it was so dry the flavor was just bland. Chicken biryani was good. They gave enough meat with the rice. Good portion. Surprisingly, it wasn't as spicy as we thought it would be. Might be because we ate it with the other dishes? Chicken makhani was just blah. Flavorless and just wasn't much to satisfy my craving for it. It's like chunks of chicken and some shredded ones? A little confused about that one. I did like the spiciness that you'd taste once you bit into the chicken. Service was sub par. They were pretty busy but no one checked to see whether we needed anything else once we received our food. Tables and chairs were a mess. At least take the high chairs away once the diners are gone.. read more

It's a restaurant right , so food is foremost. I drove 100 miles to get to this place and I. Am served with old chicken in a Karahi u can tell from seeing it. Old mixed nihari. Extremely disappointed and will never come here again. 100 miles drive and u r served with old mixed food. Not worth it. I get it it's inflation but I paid you in us dollers not in Pakistani rupees, so I deserve fresh food. I first ate here about 6 months ago and had the opportunity to come again last night. I was a little worried seeing all the recent negative reviews, but fortunately I can say that this place is still legit! We were in a large group and ordered a variety of dishes to share family style (highly recommend). The Frontier Chicken and beef Sabri Nihari were phenomenal - stars of the show. The garlic naan is just HUGE, which is great because I love naan. And the mango drink is very rich and not too sweet. The only plate that kind of fell flat for me was the mixed platter of kabobs we ordered. The beef in particular was really tough and chewy. Everything else on there however was decent. We ended the night with a dessert drink (see picture). I don't remember what it's called but it was a very unique and fun texture to a dessert. Definitely worth buying one for the table to share! Overall, if you are looking to grub some Pakistani cuisine on Devon Street, come here. read more

We got takeout from here during Covid. We really liked it. We ordered the chicken biryani, which was good. This one comes with bones. We ordered the bhindi masala (okra), which we loved. It is pretty spicy, but definitely a good vegetarian dish. We also ordered the sabri Bihari, was good. That dish is a beef stew-type dish without any vegetables. It was flavorful, but it'd be better with rice or naan. Probably that dish should come with rice for completeness. We actually used the leftovers the next day, but added vegetables. We also ordered naan and garlic naan. Regular naan is a good size and good value. It is easily enough naan for two people. Garlic naan is twice the cost of regular naan and is not a good value. read more

We had family visiting town so of course Sabri was our go to choice. We ordered butter chicken, which was just perfect. The chicken was perfectly tender and the butter sauce/gravy was seasoned well and creamy. There were 5 big chicken filets in one order. The frontier chicken rice was something new we tried and it did not disappoint. It was something different than the usual biryani. The small pieces of chicken cooked in the seasoned rice paired perfectly with the yogurt sauce. We got the chapli kabob, 2 beef patties in 1 order. The meat was tender and flavorful but they were a heavy handed on the coriander seeds (not a big fan), each bite had probably 4-5 seeds so we had to pick them out. We also ordered 4 garlic butter naan which are HUGE. Each fed about 2-3 people. It was baked well, crispy and def not burnt on the bottom (some places burn the bottom and I don't really like the charred flavor). Will order again and nihari is first on the list. read more
