The food is ok, it could be better. The restaurant is not very clean and the service is not good. I'd go to another place instead.

Arepa, tequenos, passion fruit juice, and the plantain sandwich in the back.

The food was good. I got an arepa with shredded beef and cheese. Simple and flavorful. I wish it had some lettuce and tomatoe but I'm glad it didn't have any mayonnaise or onions. We started with tequenos with cheese and guava, which I loved. The leftovers were great in the air fryer the next day with some coffee. My bf got a Venezuelan version of a Jibarito - a sandwich using fried plantains as the bread. It was a heavy meal, with shredded chicken, ham, lettuce, tomatoes, cabbage and mayonnaise. It was OK, but I don't like that much mayo or ham. The plantains were crunchy and huge. He took the top layer home and it was great as a breakfast with a fried egg. There's a lot on the menu and if you just walk in, like we did, it can be a little overwhelming to choose while they wait at the counter. I wish I would have reviewed the menu online ahead of time, but that might not have helped because it had items I didn't see on the menu in the restaurant.

This is a great little place if you like affordable food with generous portions. I was looking for arepas and realized after getting them that they are differently than the Colombian ones. This Venezuelan version has loads of white cheese peaking out the little corn sandwich. It was very filling. We also tried the meat versions that are stuffed with your choice of meat. The tequeños are flaky breadsticks with melted cheese inside. You get five and they're also very tasty. This place is a great find to try a variety of food, come hungry!

After the Astros' victory in the 2022 World series, I really wanted to celebrate some Venezuelan dishes. You know Jose Altuve is from Venezuela. I visited Sabor Venezolano. I ordered a lunch plate. It was so good though I had no idea about Venezuelan cuisine. I especially loved arepa which is similar to pupusas in El Salvador. Regarding the name, Sabor Venezolano, sabor means flavor or taste in English. But it sounds like saboru(さぼる) in Japanese. Saboru means " I skip or ditch school in Japanese"! It is a good reason to go to the restaurant and don't go to school. LOL.

Its a small place but the food is full of flavor, you want to try real venezuelan food this is a must! The service was great! The owner was always checking on us if we needed something else, he was really nice. I ordered the breakfast criollo and a cafe con leche, everything so delicious and my husband ordered an arepa. If you want a spicy sauce just ask for the habanero one that one is good! We will be coming back!

UPDATE So as you can see below the owner chose to respond to my comment about the price of the food (which by the way $8 for a SMALL arepa is a lot to pay for just plain cheese.) However, did not want to own up to the quality of the food served. At the end of the day the food was bad. So if you pay $1 or $20 it still ended up in the garbage because it tasted and looked horrible. I gave them one star just so that I can post this review. I paid $22 for TWO arrepas. Unbelievable I thought maybe they are really big. Boy was I WRONG. The lady at the restaurant handed me a tiny small oily paper bag and before she gave me this tiny bag containing my $22 dollar worth of arrepas she asked me for PROOF that I was the one that actually purchased this item. Once at my desk I opened this package and took a look at the mess within. The arrepa was drenched in old oil cheese was congealed to the sides hard and crunchy the arrepa itself was lukewarm and the contents inside just thrown in there. It was the most unappetizing item I have EVER ordered in my entire life. After paying $22 I tried to eat this and could not. I had to spit the food out. My stomach was hurting after a few bites. In the trash is where my entire meal went. Save your money DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!!!!!

It had taken me a while to visit though I live five minutes away. I saw the price of an arepa, $7.50, but ordered one thinking it would be big. It's not. I'm a small eater and ate the arepa with cheese and avocado. It shouldn't cost more than $5. The passion fruit drink with lots of ice is $3.75. The place is casual. You order at the counter and food is brought to you. While the arepa was tasty, the $7.50 is outrageous.

Oh wow. These empanadas are so flavorful and delicious. I would highly recommend it to anyone who's open to trying new foods. This is a mom and pop shop so the service is slower but the vibe in the restaurant is very laid back. I got the beef empanadas and there are green sauce that u can pour over your empanadas. It's amazing.

Really disgusting!!! I asked for a patacón and I got a big peace of meat not even shredded with a bunch of cabbage and ketchup. Terrible service , they didn't even want to open the door because they were celebrating a baby shower for the boss" , I mean what kind of owner does this to their restaurant. Super disappointed and absolutely never coming back . I used to come here before and I loved to food now is absolutely nasty . You can see the difference between the two picture before and after :(

Their unique position as one of the only Venezuelan spots in the loop becomes even more niche when one realizes that part of the menu is also Mediterranean / Middle Eastern (#1). If that's not Houston in a nutshell, I don't know what is. The place sports a casual vibe with a clean and bright interior. It's been practically empty with every visit, but I suspect the takeout game is strong here. There is limited parking in the back of the restaurant and the narrow alleyway entrance is somewhat easy to miss. Food wise, I am not disappointed. Their cheese cachapa is the stuff of dreams and includes a number of stuffings from ham to shredded chicken / beef. My vote is for their pabellón, which is a nice combination of shredded beef, black beans, and sweet plantains. For cheese lovers, the double cheese is perfectly indulgent with the sweetness of the cornmeal. The main draw for me was the arepas, which is something I missed having had so much of it back in NYC. La Pelua (shredded beef, mixed shredded cheese) is one of my go-tos, but my all-time favorite is the reina pepiada, a shredded chicken mixed with avocado topped with sprinkled salty white cheese. It's a staple in the Venezuelan arepa game and while their version is very solid, I'm just extremely thankful that it's available. Their breakfast platters are a big draw, which mainly consist of scrambled egg combos paired with arepas and various proteins. I think their yuca buñelos, tequeños, patacones, and especially their mandocas are incredibly underrated. The latter is practically dessert since it's mashed plantains with the cachapa stuffed with sugar and cheese. While they're not known for their empanadas, I do think their cazon (#2) is unique and their potato and cheese is always hearty. The shredded beef is a nice alternative to their arepas or arepitas (side) and make for an excellent snack on the go. Fans of Venezuelan cuisine who find themselves in the inner loop owe them a visit and I highly recommend calling ahead of time to ensure they have items available and to get a jump on the wait time for takeout. They are a slept on gem in the neighborhood and one that I hope sticks around for a very long time. _____________ (#1) The owners are Venezuelan and Syrian. The sweetest couple. (#2) Dogfish? It's really a mini shark.

They even have a gluten free fryer separate from a regular fryer, which is great! The restaurant itself is very casual, few tables and friendly staff at the counter for helping decide. I tried the caxapa with cheese, 3 empanadas with various fillings, and the plain mini areas. All the items were good especially the caxapa and the empandas, though I think the combination of items I picked was definitely fryer-heavy. The sauces they were served with with are also a nice accompaniment. We got to go and excited to try out more of their menu!

The server was very friendly and explained the menu to us. I love the fact that there is a QR code at the table that pulls up a menu with all the photos. It's great for someone who doesn't know what the items look like. You can also pay by scanning the QR code. The downside is that they charge you extra hidden costs like tap water and a whole lot of many other things. I would have bright my own purified bottled water from Costco that cost a a fraction of what they charged. The prices didn't not align with what was reflected on the menu from scanning the QR code and they were not upfront about it until we got the bill. The menu states that one of the orders came with brown rice so that's what we ordered, but they tagged in extra $2.50 for that on our tab. With the patacon, there was lack of transparency that you would be charged extra for each additional ingredients which was not started on the menu and they don't tell you until the very end when it shows up on the bill. Price and transparency 1/5. Pan De Jamon was Sweet and savory with reasons, ham, olives. They're homemade and fresh. 5/5 Patacon - you can add a variety of means but they charge you extra for each one. The plantain part was good, but I felt mixed about it because certain ingredients were hot, lukewarm and some cold. Lack of consistency. 3/5 We also ordered the pabellon plate, It came with plantains (the best part about it), black beans, brown rice according to the menu through the QR code. The meat was tender but not much flavor. 3/5 Love trying out local hole in the walls and finding hidden gems, but this one didn't meet expectations.
