If you know Wheaton, you know there are food GEMS here regularly. You can add this one to the list. Always love trying the new places that come in and I hope this one stays for a while. Great vibe and atmosphere, which is on the cozier side but chill and relaxing nonetheless. The service was immaculate as both waiters were attentive, knowledgeable and positively spirited. We ordered the Passion fruit agua frescas to start, alongside their housemade Queso Fundido with Chorizo. The cheese was nice and melty, and had jalapeño slices in it. Mixed with the chorizo and slapped inside a corn tortilla was a perfect bocadillo. Our mains were tacos al pastor, de lengua and carne asada, along with a Suadero Burrito. The tacos were solid. The lengua was nice and juicy, the carne asada was grilled to perfection and the pastor was marinated in a lovely pineapple sauce, where the flavors came through well. The Suadero burrito was nice as the meat inside was very tender and juicy. I don't like lettuce on my burritos, and I should've ordered without it but during the Cinco De Mayo celebrations and mariachis singing, I missed that detail but it didn't disappoint regardless. The restaurant is painted in cheerful colors and decorated with art, and is very clean and welcoming with attentive and friendly service. We had delicious sopas as an appetizer. I had three chicken (which was tender and tasty) enchiladas smothered in a tangy slightly spicy salsa verde and my husband had a special dish of pork and potatoes with homemade tortillas and unusual spices. Both dishes were delicious. Refied black beans were very good and the only weak spot was the rice which didn't have great texture, and the tres leches cake which was nothing special. We would definitely come back to try Oaxacan dishes (their specialty) that the friendly owner recommended. We were also offered a free shot of fruit flavored mezcal each. I bought lunch for my grandson and me at Sabor Mixteco today. I had the Enchiladas Mixtecas(Mole), which was delicious. My grandson enjoyed the chicken quesadillas. He said that most quesadillas are virtually identical (and good), but this one was outstanding. We shared an order of guacamole, which was fresh and very good, but typical of most well-made guacamoles. The most impressive aspect of the restaurant is the customer service. When I called to order my carry-out food, the man taking my order was friendly and very welcoming. And when I arrived, I was greeted with a handshake and a sincere welcome. The curbside parking was adequate when I arrived, though I can imagine times when it might be more challenging. I unhesitatingly recommend this small restaurant. We had Enchiladas Mixtecas Mole and Carne Enchilada and they were both great. The mole sauce is rich with subtle flavors and is SO good. The Carne Enchilada is served on a sizzling platter fajita style. The pork was delicious. We usually don't get dessert but our server convinced us to try the flan. WOW. Do not miss the flan. Sabor Mixteco is the best place to eat at in the area if you want to have Oaxacan cuisine. Yes, the parking is mostly metered, street spots. However, all your worries will go away when you enter this restaurant. You are greeted by very hospitable staff, who will help you learn about the various dishes and specials of the day. The must order dish is the tlayuda. One is enough to share between two patrons as an appetizer. Also, do not forget to put on some salsa and/or homemade hot sauce. It kicks up the spice level a bit. The al pastor torta was great, and we also had the mole enchiladas. I recommend Sabor Mixteco if you want great food and great service. read more

The service is so homey and the owners are lovely people who clearly take pride in their work. The mole enchiladas you can tell they make the sauce in house, the nopales have the traditional grill marks, and the chorizo is also made in house which was great as part of the queso fundido. Wow - we were excited to find an authentic Mexican spot near our home, and Sabor Mixteco is the real thing! I had the amazing posole: rich but light broth, perfectly spiced, topped with avocado and onion with just a pinch of oregano. My husband had the enchiladas mole and the mole was so so delicious! Do you want amazing, fresh, well prepared, AUTHENTIC Mexican food? Sabor Mexico is the place! I've visited Mexico many times (not the touristy beach towns). I love visiting Mexico City, Guadalajara, Puebla, & Oaxaca. At Sabor, the tortillas are made in house - a real treat. The beans are vegetarian. My family went and we were well taken care of. Our littlest one is 4 years old & had a non-menu request - tacos with beans, rice, cheese, & salsa. They made her 3 and she ended up having a 4th one! The Oaxacan mole was sweet, with a creamy texture and delicious. The mole sauce was made in house & takes 4-5 hours. The Alambre (?) with the braised beef was extremely filling and rich. It was served with 7 tortillas. I came home with leftovers. The table salsa had a nice bite. We plan to return for lunch soon to try the different lunch menu which includes chilaquiles. Other items to look forward to: alambre with steak, street tacos, the enchiladas suizas and the burritos (these are very well priced). The final bill was very reasonably. Our 2 entrees, "custom" kids plate, and two specialty non-alcoholic drinks came out to be $50 (without tip). We tipped 25% because they took great care of us. read more
