My first time dining here. It won't be my last. I couldn't finish my meal. It was worth the price. Come see for yourself.

Great restaurant in the Quarter at Tropicana. They are in area by the movie theater…read more They are hard to miss as there's an old school Cadillac parked right out front. It's decorated like it would be in Cuba(I think? I've never been). The staff were very friendly and the food was delicious. The mixed grill was good and just enough for two people. The banana split is awesome as it's served in a huge martini glass. I'll definitely be back.

Plentiful bar seating and lots of hours and days offered, unlike some other venues. Pleasant bartender took great care of us, and there were regulars at the bar which is always encouraging. The happy hour menu includes several $8 cocktails so I ordered a red sangria and hubby tried the mojito. When in Cuba, have a rum drink for sure! Both were excellent and good value. I had to try the crab guacamole, even though it's just crabmeat on guac. Good stuff. All mine because hubby doesn't eat avocados, too bad! The surprise was the plantain chips that came with this dish, they were huge, and such crunchy deliciousness! We also got the dragon street meatballs, which he got to enjoy by himself (because they are beef and pork meatballs and I can't consume pork). This was a big portion for $8. The sauce was sweet and salty. A good dish! We weren't super hungry so we didn't try other apps but this is a solid HH!

Another tale of two experiences between the Misses and I. *I* particularly like Cafe Nitido; the…read morewife said she will wouldn't go back. *shoulder shrug emoji*. Let's discuss.... First, the place is very nice on the inside; spacious, clean, relatively quiet. The servers were nice, (a little awkward, but nice...), and the food was delicious. I decided to go with the chicharrones mofongo, and the Misses got the salmon. We got a side of fried plantains to split. I was a little worried watching other peoples mofongos coming out, because although beautifully plated, the helping looked small. But, it was more than enough food. The plantains were more than a little over, (aka burnt,) but they tasted ok nevertheless. The Misses enjoyed her salmon, but was QUITE upset that the meal came with white rice instead of yellow. She says that she specifically asked for yellow, but I can't remember, AND, as is the custom now a days, the waitress didn't write the order down, instead trying to remember everything. Hate that practice, I really do. The MEALS were reasonably priced, but the sides and drinks were astronomical. The side of plaintains was TEN dollars. I ordered a coffee at the end of the meal, (that took FOR.EVER. to come out by the way,) and it was like an espresso sized cup of coffee that costed almost $5. The iced teas, over $4. They make up the difference of the meals on the other shit. Our bill for the mofongo, the salmon, an iced tea, a side of plantains, and the worlds slowest, smallest coffee was JUST under $100. It was good, but it wasn't THAT good. As I mentioned, the server was awkward, and would come by the table and then just stand there, or walk away and then walk IMMEDIATELY back, so it was just a little weird. YMMV. Again, even with all that, I would absolutely go back here. They have a LOT of mofongo options, and I'd love to try another protein.
