    Super Burrito
    James A.

I went in around 12:50 and the place was empty, should have been the first sign that I wasn't going to enjoy the experience. I sat on the back patio which had lots of flys and was a bit dirty. I got the super burrito and the super nacho's both with carne asada. The food was very under seasoned the asada seemed more like ground beef. The chips for the nachos were over fried and the cheese was that fake cheese. Sorry no way I'll be going back.

Came back for a second visit to this location - nice to see they've expanded into the adjoining space, business was brisk so I suppose they're doing well. I had the burrito - again, and was once again impressed not only with the freshness but with the size of the thing. I could easily have taken half home for another meal, however I wolfed it down greedily, it was really tasty. Service was fast and great, chips were warm, salsas were fresh, price was right, what more could you ask?

    Caldo de Rez

The staff are wonderful. I am working my way through the menu. I have had the Caldo de Rez (beef soup) served with corn tortillas. Think of pot roast but in a soup form with out the gravy. YUM! I've taken home the super burritos as a treat for family. Everything here is a comfort food made to order with fresh ingredients. Lovely ambiance and art, a giant Vicente Fernańdez photo in the establishment.

Overall a delicious experience! I've been meaning to kick the tires and was in the area so gave it a shot. This location was a couple different businesses over the past few years and was glad to see a new business come in. Upon entering the restaurant, it's got a counter style set up where you order and find a seat. It looks like they are still figuring things out as there is a beer and wine application notice in the door. There is plenty of seating available (probably too much) as there are seating area inside and a covered exterior spot. The menu is on a flatscreen which is typical these days. The monitor next to it was serving up early 90's pop and hip-hop music videos which was kinda funny. The food is very good and full of flavor. I ordered a super burrito and it could probably feed 2. The beans, meat, rice, and cheese all melded together for a delicious mix of flavors and textures. The salsa's were nice as well. There was a red (spicy) and green (medium) which is a good addition to a bite or two of burrito or chips. I hope this place does well and we'll see what the future holds.

Decided to try the super vegi burrito again before ruling out this place as a lunch option. I ordered the salsa, guacamole and sour cream on the side, hoping this would take care of the issue of my burrito being cold. I was wrong! The burrito was mostly lettuce on the inside, so it's difficult to make it any warmer. It was also lacking in flavor. The chips and mild salsa were tasty. Given my choice of entree, this clearly isn't the place for me.

    Shrimp and veggie tacos

The food was average. Nothing really stood out from any other Mexican restaurant in town. They have al pastor as a meat option which is not that common. I had it in a burrito. It was supposed to be a super burrito (regular burrito with guacamole and sour cream). It wasn't. My mother said that her enchiladas were okay. Nothing special. The stand out appears to have been the shrimp and veggie tacos. It deserves 4 stars. Everything else was 3 stars. The guacamole had more tomatoes than avocado. Not the way I like it. I think that this restaurant is very new. They have some things to work out. They overcharged us. They charged us twice for my mother's enchilada combo meal. They have a large space across the parking lot from Pini's hardware. This location can't seem to hold onto a restaurant. They had better try harder or they won't last either. They have covered outdoor dining. It was good to try this place but I probably won't be back.

What great news! After 25 years working at a taco shop in San Jose, Samuel finally opened his own taco shop in South Novato, next to the ACE Hardware store. The best taco shop in town. Excellent service and the best price. Honestly, the best tacos in the county. Very nice people and respectful

Super burrito was a good size!

Glad to see an authentic taqueria in the neighborhood. This location has been through a few other places that didn't last so hopefully this one sticks around. The staff is friendly and has a nice seating area by the road. I always go for an al pastor super burrito and this one hit the spot. My only feedback is the lack of customization. I prefer a spinach tortilla which most places have these days. They also only offer pinto beans which is fine, but I'm a black bean kind of guy. It was still very delicious and enjoyable. The marinade on the al pastor was so flavorful which was felt in every bite. Even with the pinto beans, I would still come back.

Finally got in for lunch since they close early for dinner, 7pm. Friendly fast service and relaxing patio that's covered for the elements. I tried a delicious al pastor tota on a fresh soft roll with all the fixings. Big enough for 2 but I was really hungry to polish it off. The menu is ample with everything you would expect with a few nice surprises like Dorado fish tacos. 5 for $11.95 and whole fried fish for $14.99 when available.. I will be back to Sabor de Mexico to work my way through the menu. Gracias

    Beef Torta, delicious!

Another delicious meal from Sabor de Mexico. This time we ordered a large Carne Asada quesadilla and a Al Pastor super burrito, both were a generous portion and really good. Prices are so reasonable and worth the visit so far.

I chose the Lamb Papardelle, which was earthy and savory with gloriously wide noodles. My companions had the grilled salmon and rigatoni. Jessica, the adjacent Speakeasy restaurant manager, made my custom cake. It was amazing. She made a gluten-free, fluffy chocolate cake with fresh raspberries between the layers--slightly sweet and tangy. Soooo delicious. She added red roses to match the roses on the tables. The ambience is so elegant--at any point, you expect a member of the Rat Pack or some performer to be dining there. They have excellent live piano music I believe on Fridays and Saturdays.

We ordered the truffle risotto and lobster bisque for the appetizers, and I thought they were both very hearty. Truffle flavor was there, and the risotto texture was great! For the entrees, we had to get the steaks. They were cooked medium-rare like we requested, and the meat was very tender. I would definitely want to come back to try a few things I've seen on their menu that weren't offered during the Valentine's Day special dinner service. Service was phenomenal and super friendly, even during the busy night. The live pianist and vibes added an extra touch to the atmosphere and made it a very pleasant dinner!

I assume I talked to Anthony (Lou) while I was ordering and he helped me and my friend choose between all the options they had for the day. I love how it's really no frills, but just really good food. My friend and I ordered the sunset fried chicken(?) and the local fried rockfish to share. Both were fried to perfection and we loved how the sauces complimented the meal so well. The chicken's sauce was spicy, savory and you could really taste the Calabrian chili kicking through. The rockfish's sauce was tangy and was perfect with the fish. The salad was also the perfect side for the meal. Portion were huge and we were able to eat it for another meal.

The food is often sold out by the time I come but I finally got to taste Lou's and I'm blown away. I got: 1. Fried Chicken Spicy: Sorry I don't know the actual names of what I ordered but it was with the orange sauce on top of katsu like fried chicken. This was a bit spicy but not bad at all and this is coming from a wimp who can barely tolerate siracha. The chicken is so crunchy and juicy. I'd compare the sauce to almost like an indian curry like (but not really). 2. Fried Chicken Green sauce: This sauce tasted more like carribean or coconut-y style. Both this and the spicy one was delicious but I actually liked this one more. I loved the coconut/creamy flavor of the sauce and it went so well with the freshly fried chicken. Overall, hands down the best asian food in Marin. There isn't even a question or comparison. The portions are huge, the flavors are fresh and innovative. The service is also great. The shop itself can it a bit hard to find as it isn't really labeled. Its just a small shack in the parking lot of Scotty's Market.
