It was around 8 pm when the boy got hungry and really wanted Thai food so we started searching for what was open. On a Tuesday lateish dinner night, unfortunately most options were closed until we luckily found this spot! Ended up trying the Tom Kha Soup - which was delicious, creamy with the coconut milk & plentiful with the veggies. Overall, the soup was great & came in a good portion. We also tried the Basil Fried rice with vegetables, and this was delicious as well. There were lots of veggies here but what I really liked was that the flavor of the rice was light but very tasty. Would recommend one to check this place out!

We had questions and he was patient and attentive. He answered our questions politely and cheerfully. The server was also earnest and brought out more water when we asked for more. The seafood pad Thai was tasty and very sweet. Maybe a little bit too sweet. I also wish there were a bit more shrimps in the dish. I love that the cashier asked us how spicy should he make the food. I said not spicy at all and my friend said 6 out of 10 spicyness level. The Thai ice tea was a bit too sugary. I got a sugar high from it lol. I would give this restaurant 5 stars but the inside of the building where we were seated had no air conditioning. A fan was all that was there. The outside air was colder than the inside of the restaurant were we were. We ended up sweating a bit. It was uncomfortable for my friend who was also eating a spicy meal. The inside decor of the restaurant wasn't super interesting but it was not shabby.

My company wasn't impressed either. Maybe there should be a checklist to confirm the customer gets what they order? Hard for me to confirm as I didn't reheat my rice rolls till the next day. After much research, we decided to give Vanxai's a try. We ordered the following dishes: * Spring Rolls * Papaya Salad (spice level 3) * Shrimp Pad Thai * Green Curry w/ Chicken We enjoyed the papaya salad, which had the perfect amount of heat at level 3 (their spice scale ranges from 1-5 with level 3 being hot and level 5 is inferno). The green curry was also quite good with an abundance of fresh vegetables in it, including onions, green beans, red bell peppers, broccoli, and bamboo shoots. The shrimp pad thai was delicious, though it could have used a squeeze of fresh lime juice to help brighten and enhance the flavour of the dish. The spring rolls were filled with vegetables and vermicelli noodles and was served with sweet chili sauce. We both thought it could have used a bit more seasoning if eaten on its own without the sweet chili sauce. Overall, we enjoyed the food here and will be making this our go-to Laos Thai restaurant.

Located in a neighborhood in the St. Anne's area, it was clear that the outside of the restaurant was a bit antiquated. However, when I walked in I was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant was clean and bright. The ambiance was fair and comfortable. Water glasses were large and the liquid was cold on fresh ice. The server was quite knowledgeable, friendly and courteous. He asked me what my level of spicey/heat tolerance was and I bragged that in College (down in the U.S.) I was known as the "Spice King". The Spice King he questioned? Yes, I responded noting that while I was attending a four-year college, I was able to withstand some of the hottest habanero salsas at a local eatery off the University campus. He commented that I would then enjoy the '3' level of spicey. Here is what we ordered: Souk-Gai - a deliciously fragrant soup with great flavors of cilantro and ginger and sliced chicken. A very spicy soup, charged with a very able helping of chili flakes and special seasoning. Kua-Som-Yum - A mix of shrimp, cauliflower, red peppers and onion in a thin red sauce. The shrimps were cooked perfectly but the veggies probably needed to be cook more thoroughly. I really enjoyed this dish and felt it was nicely peppered. I should let you know that this was a '3' level of spice. Gang-Keo - a chicken in green curry and coconut milk with onions, green beans, broccoli and red peppers. This was way too hot for me. It overwhelmed the underlying flavors of the dish and wasn't as enjoyable. Again, we had the '3', but I would recommend a '1' or '2' level. Bottom Line: This Spice King gives Lao Thai the Royal Assent.

The pad Thai uses very thin noodles and is extremely thick. It tastes very much peanut like and homogeneous in flavor without a ton of balance. Let me tell you... This is one of the most INEDIBLE ive had in my lifetime. I chose this place because of the recent good review that someone had put in there. We ordered food close to $130 worth and all most of their food tasted like soy sauce. At least they did not mess up the fresh veg rolls with shrimp and Panang is 6/10. The rest is just not worth to make your tummy spend the day having bad stomach ache which we all did. And please do check the bathroom its really unsanitary. They are very nice people eventhough they didnt care what we had to say when we have told them about the food and it tasted too salty and not good. We barely touched it and we just payed the bill and left. All i can say if you have good experiences with real authentic and savoury Thai food this is not the place to go. 2/10

Quick Yelp search brought up the Golden Elephant - and not far from our hotel - so we decided to give it a shot. A little hard to find as it is attached to a Quality Inn on Pembina highway. Not disappointed. The owner was super friendly and chatty and very helpful with navigating the menu. I opted for the weekend special combo, while the missus opted for the Deluxe Vietnamese Vermicelli. This was a lot of food for the two of us. The Chicken Satay - served on weekends as a part of the combo - was truly the best that I've had outside of Malaysia and Indonesia. Taste was authentic and just flavorful. I really hope they add this as a option to the regular menu. The curry Laksa seemed a bit on the oily/rich side, but it was flavorful. The Vermicelli was cooked to perfection and well seasoned. Staff even gave us a complimentary mango pudding.. :) No complaints, and we'll certainly return to try a few more of the tasty menu items...

I ordered the salad rolls with pork and shrimp...structurally very substantial in size and full of stuff. One could just order a few of these and have a nice filling meal. That said, the peanut sauce wasn't particularly creamy or pea-nutty. The pho is served in a moderately size bowl, but they didn't offer a lot of sprouts or basil. The salad roll had basil as a garnish and I put them into the pho. Also, there wasn't a lot of depth of flavor in the soup base itself...it wasn't watery just bland. Lastly I order the crepe sweet potato and shrimp. To describe this as a "crepe" has never had a crepe (made in the French tradition). It's not at all pancake like and more like a hash brown with shrimp. It was good and crispy but not at all what I expect. The restaurant has amazing ambience, kudos to the decor...with a wall length mural of a peacock and hanging paper lanterns...the restaurant looks exotic. Lastly, service was also just ok, not special or fast. Also, I got my entire order all at once, which I hate especially since I like having Pho hot. When one gets everything at once stuff gets cold! The cooks have no sense of timing (seemingly) and are more concerned about getting the order out. Overall, it's a beautiful restaurant full of charm with ok food and care for the customer. If you're not as exacting as I am about Pho and dining out in general...you may like it...the food is certainly filling.

I'd definitely be careful in requesting spicy level here, as level 3 was already quite spicy for someone with medium spice tolerance. The noodles were good, however the sauce was quite diluted.
