I was having a normal, room-volume conversation with an elderly veteran when the owner came out and targeted me with a completely fabricated story. She claimed I sit there for "hours," when in reality, I've only used that bench three times ever. She then attempted to gaslight me, claiming my voice was "piercing her ears" and triggering her tinnitus--completely ignoring the loud, laughing family sitting right next to me. To top it off, she told me to "leave her property," despite these being benches on a public-facing tourist street where hundreds of people sit every single day without issue. I spoke with several other shopkeepers in the immediate area afterward, and they were all shocked to hear about her behavior. The shop looks inviting, but it is run by someone who is dishonest, exclusionary, and seemingly looking for reasons to harass people. If you have a service animal or just want to sit for ten minutes without being harassed with made-up stories, go somewhere else. The workers down the road have said she's done this numerous times to families and folks like myself. Complaining that the public irritate her tinnitus. Completely rude woman.

During my recent stop in, I purchased a very striking small basket and a hand made "gratitude" book from 2 different artists, both of whom were right there on that day. So I really knew what I was buying. And for the pieces I admired and didn't buy, I received great background information as the artists minding the store knew them personally. I was very happy with my purchases and enjoyed my visit thoroughly. I only wish I could have found the time to come back again before my recent visit to Maui was over.

It's all gorgeous. He and his wife were so welcoming and shared the kaona / meaning behind many of the art designs. Most of the artwork tied into the hawaiian culture and mo'olelo. We also purchased a book of her paintings called Lahaina Spirit in which a percentage of both would be donated to some of the victims. The book wasn't finished yet but we received it not very long afterwards. It is now our coffee table book. She was so accommodating and definitely did her best working with us.
