We are so delighted this was our first stop on our holo-holo day trip to Lana'i. Cathy and Mike are clearly passionate about their own art and creations, as well as those of the other local artists that are on display in their gallery. We even got some local knowledge of places to eat and visit, such as Sweetheart Rock/Pu'u Pehe - definitely worth the trip. During our Lana'i tour, our tour guide shared that Mike Carroll was the designer of the Lana'i Cat Sanctuary t-shirts and his wife, Kat was the founder. We stopped by for a visit after eating at Blue Ginger Cafe (right next door). Kat was there and she was so gracious and passionate about their work. It would be great if her name was also a part of their Gallery name since it seems that they make an amazing team. I appreciated that there were a variety of items at various price points. What I liked seeing the most was the Koa frames from a guy on Oahu. In the back of the shop other artists were featured. read more

This is a nice gallery if you are in Lana'i and are looking for some art to take back home with you. Mike Carroll and his wife moved here and started the gallery which focuses on Hawaiian-themed art and features a few other local artists - like a local dentist who does some awesome wood work. The gal inside mentioned that Mike Carroll's wife is who founded the cat sanctuary on Lana'i which had made a big difference for the town because the feral cats aren't all running around populating the place with their offspring anymore and now there is a place to put them plus it's very pretty. I saw some nice framed art pieces that were small for about $85 and they do ship so pricing is reasonable inside. They have some jewelry and other handmade items inside as well so it's a great place to stop in and view the talented work of local artists if you are enjoying the small town. read more

I visited the Mike Carroll Gallery while walking around the town. This gallery is a gem! Mike and his wife, Kat run it and his paintings are simply beautiful. They capture the spirit of Hawaii like nothing I've seen before. I bought one painting and am having another commissioned. They ship to Maui where we live and I think anywhere else... can hardly wait to hang the paintings! I'm not big on art, but I know what I like. Mike Carroll and the other artists hosted in this gallery are simply amazing. Their use of different mediums to capture the essence of Hawai`i, from landscapes to portraits, creates images that are both lovely to look at and enhance any environment they're placed in. From oil paints to photographs, there is something here that will likely catch your eye. One piece in particular by Mike Carroll, called "Rising Sun", showed a beach in the early morning. At six feet wide, you cannot help but be drawn to it. The color, the scenery, and the lighting make you feel like you are there. Every time I passed by, I couldn't help but pause to take the piece in. I only wish I could afford it as well as had the room. Most of the originals here are pricey, albeit for a good reason due to the talent and skill. For those with lighter pocketbooks, there are smaller prints of similar quality well within anyone's price range. If you're visiting Lana'i, you cannot help but stop by the various art galleries. If you do, I recommend Mike Carrolls; even if you don't walk away with something for your own home, you'll at least have had a pleasant experience simply looking. read more

My husband and I stumbled upon this gallery when stopping into Lanai City during our stay in Lanai. We were just beginning our honeymoon and wanted to find a piece of art to bring back to Chicago with us. We were shocked to find out Mike Carroll used to live in Chicago and drew the original illustration for the Goose Island logo! Mike was even in the shop and was extremely approachable and kind. He walked us through his art showing us what we will see in our future travels as we island hopped. He had many wonderful paintings of the Hawaiian Islands. We purchased one of his pieces of the beach with Sweetheart Rock in the background. It was already framed with Koa wood. I love visiting Mike and Kathy's gallery when I visit Lana'i. Mike has carefully packed and shipped art home to the mainland for me . I have recently purchased a new favorite bracelet found on their instagram account that I bought over the phone and they shipped it to me. I love the way they support local craftspeople by providing exposure to those artists via their gallery social media so the artist is be able to sell their work to those of us off islanders who can't always get to gallery. This gallery is a hidden gem in a little-visited town on the little-visited island. Lanai is dominated by two high-end resorts, but Lanai City feels like what Hawaii would be if it weren't overrun by tourists. The Gallery has great paintings done by Mike Carroll as well as other artists. Instead of bringing home a chunk of postcards to remember our vacation, we bought one beautiful print (I guess that makes us adults). It's a wonderful reminder of our time in Hawaii, and isn't hidden in a box with all our other stuff. I highly recommend visiting Lanai if you're visiting Maui (they have daily ferries), and visiting Mike Carroll's Gallery. read more

My husband and I met Mike Carroll in the lobby of the Lodge at Koele. He was displaying some very beautiful prints that caught my eye - different scenes around Lanai. We visited his gallery in town (love Lanai City - very cute!) and were especially drawn to a plein aire painting of Pu'u Pehe (Sweetheart Rock) in the moonlight. We like art, but had never bought an original oil painting. After lunch, we came back and purchased it. Mike framed it as we requested and shipped it to us. It arrived about a week later and we were ecstatic to get it. It's a wonderful reminder of one of our favorite vacations. I think he's the best artist on Lanai, and we feel fortunate that we had a chance to buy this piece - he had just recently completed it. I highly recommend this artist! read more

I adore the Mike Carroll Gallery! It's filled with beautiful work that captures the essence of Lanai. There are several artists on display and a variety of affordable prints of all sizes available for purchase. They even have beautiful koa wood frames for the prints! And it was easy to ship the prints home so I didn't have to worry about packing them. Great Gallery! We saw Mike Carroll, with some of his work, when we checked in to the Lodge at Koele. We didn't realize that he was only there for a limited time, so when we came back to look at his work; he was gone. Fortunately he has this gallery "in town". We recently went to Lania on a once in a lifetime vacation. Lanai is old hawaii ... easy pace, blue ocean, warm sunshine and amazing friendly people. We had the pleasure to meet locals that lived on Lanai their entire life and others that made Lanai their forever home. Mike and Kathy the owners of the Mike Carroll Gallery have been in Lanai 20 plus years. They are extremely gracious, caring and joyful. We had the pleasure of stopping in their gallery in Lania City. The art in the gallery celebrates Hawaiian people, the historic land, colorful scenery, and nature. We purchased three originals and were pleased as punch when they arrived at home in excellent condition on the scheduled day . If you have the opportunity to go to Lanai, please be sure to leave your hotel and go to Lanai City.. home of less than 3000 locals. You will find a number of fun stores, restaurants, and food shops. We were eating at Pele's when the owner, Mark, struck up a conversation with our group. He mentioned that the Gallery was owned by the gentleman who designed the Goose Island logo and was from Oak Park and we decided we had to stop by. I had the opportunity to visit Lanai recently and it is by far, my favorite Hawaiian island! I've always wanted to visit but the ferry ride and extra time it would take out of my Maui vacation always discouraged me from going. But let me tell you....it's sooooo worth it! If you want to visit heaven on earth, go to Lanai. Besides being beautiful, it's home to some of the nicest people I've ever met. The locals are welcoming and so helpful to offer tips of things to see and do while on the island. After my friends and I got off the ferry, we rented a jeep and quickly drove to Lanai city (population @ 3,000). We strolled through this quaint little town, stopping in at the local shops, one of which was Mike Carroll Gallery. Mike was outside on the deck of their simple but beautiful gallery (painting) and welcomed us in. Inside, our eyes were treated to his beautiful paintings and other stunning pieces by local artists. His wife Kathy, warmly greeted us and gave us information on a few of the highlights of the gallery as well as information about the island. On a side note, she founded the cat sanctuary on Lanai. Within minutes, we made plans to visit the sanctuary (and I'm not even a "cat" person) which is amazing by the way. On our way out, Mike suggested the Hotel Lanai for dinner (which get's my 5 star rating as well). Later that evening we saw them there and enjoyed a glass of wine and lively conversation with them. They even offered to let us rinse off our muddy jeep at their place so we didn't have to pay the extra cleaning fee...which we gladly accepted :) All in all, if you are lucky (or smart) enough to visit Lanai, I highly recommend a stop at Mike Carroll Gallery. I purchased a print done by Mike called "Sunny Seventh Street" which captures the peaceful, positive vibe of Lanai. It's a lovely reminder of my visit and inspiration to go back to this beautiful island someday. read more

I love stopping in at Mike's gallery! He's an amazing artist and a lovely man. His wife Cathy is one of my favorite people as well as she founded the Cat Sanctuary. I think these two are a real asset to the island of Lana'i and Lana'i City as once you meet them you will get a true feeling of the hospitality of the island.
