I've been coming here for years, ordering special orders, and all the ladies that work here are so kind but this guy needs to go. I know he's related to the owner and somehow so that won't happen but he's losing lots of business because of him. This is a small convenient Mexican bakery. They do have a variety of Pan Dulce. The sweets that we city: conchas, pound cake, little conchas, very cute and small, and one maple bar. The conchas and the pond cake were very good! We were so happy surprised. We enjoyed them very much. They were very soft and the pound cake was moist. No so much the maple bar. I love to come here because it is close to my home. The breads are hit or miss usually. I'm sure there is a better time to come. Like in the morning. The people who work here are friendly. Basically you walk in, grab a tray and a pair of tongs. Then snag all the ones you like. Like the jelly roll, concha, the puerquitos. They're all good when they're fresh. I feel like the display cases could be updated and that would help to keep the bread fresh. No matter the time of day just be aware that there are usually homeless people who panhandle outside. There are so many variations of these pastries. Growing up, my mom used to always call them, "sweet bread." My mom is half white half Mexican. Growing up, we didn't eat these too often, but when I would go to my dads side of the family, I remember going over to aunts and uncles house and they used to call it pan dulce. There would be a platter of them sitting on a table during tamale making, or during get togethers, or funerals. I wasn't always a big fan, they seemed kind of dry to me, but as I got older, I started dipping them in my coffee. Then, my new love for sweet bread came a few years ago from a local baker that would make mini conchas in her home. I loved them! They were so damn soft and they did not require you to dunk them in coffee to soften them up. She no longer makes the conchas, so I found Cafe Oaxaca in Clovis and I LOVE their conchas! Super soft and sweet. Fast forward to today, I was in charge of bringing treats for "kindness week", and I brought the team "sweet bread." Cafe Oaxaca was closed, so I searched (via Yelp) for another location and found Saavedras Bakery! Saavedra's is a small bakery, but they have a large variety of breads. They also have mini conchas, 3 for $1.00. The large size bread range at about $1.30 each. They are very soft and sweet. I received so many compliments on the bakery and how soft the bread was. I love this panadería! My Abuela has been getting me mini pans here for many years. Now as an adult, this is my go to spot. I love that their hours are so open. They're open really early in the morning before work and also late in the evening. All day long they're pretty much restocking and baking fresh bread but my absolute favorite part about this place is that they have the mini pan. I'm the type of person who likes to try various different things, but can't eat too much of anything. So this is the perfect spot! I got over 80 pieces of mini pan for $42. After contacting a few bakeries to inquire about ordering a strawberry birthday cake with a one week notice, I was out of luck. I decided to give a call to Saavedra's Bakery. I knew that they made delicious pan dulce their mini conchas are soft and tasty. The young lady that helped me was friendly and helpful as I showed her a picture of how I wanted the cake to be designed, Frozen 2 . It had to be a strawberry Frozen 2 themed cake. The cake was a hit! The strawberry cake with whipped cream frosting was delicious! The guests were impressed. Lots of compliments on how scrumptious the cake tasted. We only recently discovered Mexican bread over the past few years. Historically, to us, it was always hyper dry and no matter what shape or color you got, it was all dry and tasted the same. NOT SO HERE! Seems this is a family run place. We are so happy we found it. The pan dulce here is delicious. We also shop very early in the morning and we find very fresh pastries. Bread is really good always fresh. First come first serve, always runs out fast. They also have special orders in which you can get miniature versions of certain types of breads. They open early at 5am but the bread usually isn't out till like around 8am. read more

I love the bead here and have been buying my bread here since I was small. I placed my first order of 200 breads for Valentine's day for my students. The first problem I ran into was when I went to pick up the order, they wanted to charge me more than I was originally quoted. Spoke to the owner and she tried to tell me the person who took my order was new, but I go there twice a week for bread and the lady who took my order has been there for a while (months). I told the owner that and she ended up leaving the original price. I left happy but then I ran into my second problem. A lot of the kids were throwing their bread away. Out of curiosity, I tried the bread just to make sure it wasn't the bread and maybe they didn't like it. I had ordered mini conchas, elotitos, cuernitos, and the chocolate chip cookies. Well come to my surprise, the conchas were really stiff. I tried a few, and had the same problem... like they had just given me the ones they had not sold the previous days. I told them I would pick up the bread up on the 13th in the afternoon (at 4 pm) so I could pass it out the next morning... they should not have not been that stiff, or stiff at all. Every time i buy bread there it'll last me a few days before they begin to feel stiff. I placed my order a week in advance so I would not run into this problem. The other breads were okay, but weren't as fresh as the bread that is sold daily. It really upset me as customer who's family has alway been coming here... I didn't like being lied to and then not having a fresh order for my students. read more

Hands down the best pan I have ever had. I've tried at least 10 panaderias around Fresno and no other bakery has been able to make bread that was as fluffy and moist as Saavedra's. Even two days later the bread tasted like it was just made. The cream-filled breads also maintain their shape and don't get soggy where the cream is. I've never been a fan of cuernos and have found them to be too dry, but the cuernos from Saavedra's are moist and have the perfect amount of sugar. They also sell mini conchas that are super adorable. This place is pretty far out of my way from home, work, and every other place I go around Fresno and Clovis but it's well worth the drive. read more
