Cleaned up the garage and had a few things to recycle. Looked it up on Yelp and found this place. First time here and was a bit confused how things worked here in the beginning. The lady at the window explained to us the process but I wish she could be more patient. We had to dump our stuffs on our own. After almost 30-40 minutes, we got our ticket to cash out and guess how much? $3.75!!!!! Not sure if it's worth it to spent time and energy to come here unless you have trucks of metals to recycle. read more

The day I visited SA Recycling was a sad day - it was the day I had to retire the very first vehicle I had driven since high school. In order to start the vehicle retiring process and receive either $1,000 or $1,500 from the program called Consumer Assistance Program (CAP) Vehicle Retirement (sponsored by BAR aka Bureau of Automotive Repair), then the vehicle owner must meet the following eligibility requirements: [Vehicle retirement for $1,000 - https://www.bar.ca.gov/consumer/consumer-assistance-program/vehicle-retirement-1000] - The program is for consumers with household incomes EXCEEDING the income eligibility requirement. #1 - Must be the registered owner of the vehicle with the vehicle title issued in owner's name #2 - Must not have retired another vehicle through CAP as a sole owner OR more than two vehicles as a joint owner within the past 12 months. #3 - The vehicle must have failed its most recent Smog Check inspection. #4 - Additional registration and vehicle requirements - see the BAR website for more details. [Vehicle retirement for $1,500 - https://www.bar.ca.gov/consumer/consumer-assistance-program/vehicle-retirement-1500] - The program is for consumers with household incomes MEETING the income eligibility requirement (must have a gross household income that is less than or equal to 225% of the Federal poverty level). * Same as #1, #2, and #4 above with a slight difference for #3. * For $1,500 incentive, the vehicle must have failed its most recent Smog Check inspection OR completed a Smog Check inspection (pass or fail) within 180 days prior to applying. [Application] I began my vehicle retiring process by filling out the application. Once BAR approves the process via mail (which can take up to 10 business days), then the vehicle owner needs to bring the approved letter (aka letter of eligibility) to BAR-contracted dismantler (in this case it is SA Recycling). I came to this location in Irwindale because SA Recycling in El Monte didn't show up on the BAR website. Vehicle owner will need to find their own ride getting back home. [Process]: I initially parked my car in a designated parking area and walked up to the office window. I brought all of documents (driver's license, letter of eligibility from BAR, and vehicle's title aka pink slip) and had to fill out two more forms in person. Please note that CAP ID # is on the letter of eligibility, LOE means letter of eligibility, and EFMP means Enhanced Fleet Modernization Program (I believe $1,000 incentive = no and $1,500 incentive = yes but just ask the staff to confirm). After I submitted both forms, the staff instructed one person to drive the car to the giant weight scale. After following few simple instructions like stepping on the gas pedal while the car is in parked position, the staff said just pull the car up and park the car around the corner. Afterward it was my chance to say my final goodbye, left the key in the car, finalized the paperwork process, and received a paper check on the spot. I had a window air conditioner that was not working. This is not something that someone should just put in the trash. I found SA Recycling on Yelp (where else?). When to their place. Talked to someone in the office. Put my AC unit on a cart and took it to be weighed. The person in charge told me it wasn't very heavy so I wouldn't get much money for it. No worries. I was glad to leave it with them. A big relief. I'm so glad I know about SA Recycling. Obviously, their main business is recycling much larger quantities of metal, etc. But they sure helped me out. Called in for the CAPS (consumer assistance program) auto dismantling.. helpful and friendly response: They don't take appointments, dismantling takes an hour, for a Saturday be sure to be here by 11AM. Location: remote, bungalow office, port a potty, small parking lot. Limited seating: one bench table (in sun) and 3 folding chairs (in shade). Recommend: Come early, Bring sunglasses for sunny day. Expect port a potty (outdoor sink provided). Bring all requested documents, esp pre signed power of attorney, copy of owners DL, your own DL and signed vehicle pink slip. I went here during lunch time to drop off some scrap metal from my suspension replacement project. I ended up with some struts, coil springs and shock absorbers. Before you drop them off here, you have to drain all the mineral oil first. But after that, they're more than happy to take them. The process was fast, the people were friendly (Thanks Alan for making the experience easy!). Not sure about the rate they pay, but for what I got for what I dropped off, I'm definitely happy. Horrible customer service. I needed help unloading massive size, steel plates, which needed to forklift to unload the attitude. The driver gave me.! The girl at the checkout window when scaling out horrible, horrible woman. Horrible customer skills, horrible attitude. She couldn't get the paperwork done the first time she had to rewrite it. We came here to retire a car for the Replace Your Ride program. I called in the morning to see if we needed to make an appointment beforehand and was told that we didn't need one. We pulled in to the lot, parked in one of the available spots, and walked up the small set of stairs to the cashier's window where Nancy assisted us. We filled out some paperwork and then was told to pull our car up to the weighing station so that it can be weighed and then I told to park it a few meters away in a designated area afterwards. We sat in the waiting area for about 5 minutes before we were called up to get our receipt! Nancy was very kind, helpful, and patient and made the experience very quick and painless :) read more

If you are looking for a place close to Monrovia or Arcadia to recycle your metal and not drive too far then this place might suit you. Hard to find between the Irwindale pit gravel mines, but an easy close stop. Prices for scrap paid less but the convenience worth it. Drive on to a scale, dump your metal, then reweigh and get cash. Today I visited this place and it wasn't bad at all. The great thing is that they accept scrap metal and they pay the most for aluminum cans that I could find nearby (See Below). I decided to give this place at try despite the previous negative review based on the payment for aluminum cans and acceptance of scrap metal. I mean, I collected the recyclables for quite some time and eeryone wants to get the most "bang for their buck" I suppose. It's in an industrial area which is off of the main roads but everything is run professionally. You sort things out yourself and the staff is nice. The lady at the cashier area passed by and instructed me where to go to get my voucher finalized. She made a mistake and gave me the wrong form to take to the ATM machine. You do not get paid by the cashier, you have to take a receipt to an ATM nearby and get paid there. After, I asked her about the ATM not accepting my receipt she apologized and gave me the correct one. Then she made sure that it went thru by walking over to the ATM as I tried it. Overall, not a bad experience. I did forget a bag of cans in my car but unfortunately this place closes at noon on Saturdays. I went to another place in San Dimas (** SAVE THE EARTH RECYCLING) and they had $0.05 less payment for aluminum cans but they did accept Milk Bottles and other plastic items that I noticed were rejected/thrown away at SA Recycling. However, the payment was so low for these plastics that they are not worth noting the payment. Basically, I'd go back here again especially if I have scrap metals. Note: Some scrap metal (depending on type) require ID, fingerprint, photo taken at this location. I'm told its to prevent vandals from repeatedly committing crimes and recycling stolen metals/etc at this location. Easy place to get paid to get rid of your scrap metal and old appliances. Just load up your vehicle, drive to SA and stay in your vehicle to get weighted. Then drive over to a drop off spot and a very enthusiastic and helpful young man will unload your metal and appliances. We did help him, but he did most of the work, lifting or two old large air conditioners out of the back of our pickup by himself. Then drive to the scale on the other side of the office to get weighted again and the nice, young receptionist who weighted us in (who was also very helpful on the telephone when we called her for information) gives you a receipt for cash at their ATM. We were paid $10, whereas GOT JUNK would of charged us around $200 to load and haul away our metal junk. GOT JUNK actually recommended we take out metal junk to SA! read more

this place is a total rip-off... if you want to loose your money definitely go here.. I took in 10 all aluminum large cooking pots.. the cart i use was marked 131 lbs, they marked it 138 lbs on the receipt... they marked the aluminum as old painted aluminum sheet (T/T) and only paid .30 cents a pound and ripped me off for 7 lbs to boot.. they advertise scrap aluminum paid at .78 cents a pound. This was scrap aluminum not painted sheet..I was paid $20.70 when i should of been paid $59.18 never again will i go here... read more
