Catastrophic negligence…read more Improperly torqued drain plug destroyed my engine I had my oil changed at Whiting Auto Center on Dover Rd. One day before my next scheduled oil change--roughly three months later--the oil drain plug completely fell out while I was driving on the parkway. Every warning light came on, the engine lost all oil, and it completely shut down and was destroyed. My mechanic inspected the vehicle and confirmed the drain plug had fallen out while driving. It had clearly been undertightened/improperly torqued during the last service, slowly seeping oil over those three months until the vibrations on the highway finally vibrated it completely loose. Whiting Auto Center was the last shop to perform an oil change on this vehicle, yet they are denying all responsibility for the catastrophic failure caused by their work. A routine oil change should not result in a destroyed engine. Their failure to properly secure a drain plug and their refusal to take accountability for the resulting damage is unacceptable. I strongly advise taking your vehicle elsewhere!

First visit, front wiper arm needed to be replaced. She said they normally replace the wiper blade. As they were only 3 months old, I declined. She asked 2 more times to replace the wiper blade making me feel pressured. Red flag 1 Car went in for service. The report they provided said air filter status unknown. There are 4 screws that hold the cover in place. The manager told me they only check the air filter if they are quick release fasteners. Basically, if they aren't sure if they can charge you for the filter they won't take the time to unscrew the cover. Red Flag 2. Took car in for oil change and tire rotation. They told me the rear wiper wasn't working. Odd as it was working the day before in the rain. Since I have an extended service warranty, I had them check to see if it was covered. It was only if the motor was bad. They told me that they would have to trouble shoot it and I would be responsible for the cost. Unless it turned out to be the motor. I asked if they checked the fuse. Service writer didn't even look at me nor acknowledged my question. Why should they see if it's the fuse when they play dumb and get paid for trouble shooting. Checked the rear wiper when they brought the car out and it was working just fine. During this same visit I was told the rear links are going bad. Insurance would pay but because the insurance would only pay a certain amount for the links, I would owe more than $100. I asked about aftermarket parts. She said they were more than the dealership. I found them online for what the insurance would pay for. After the prior red flags, I wonder if the links are in need of replacement. 3rd and final Red Flag. I canceled the appointment to have them replaced. Had the trans fluid changed along with the brake fluid not too long ago. Now I'm wondering if they did it? It's sad that Pro-Cat feels they need to do business in this manor. How did they stayed in business 35 years??

I explained this when I arrived and asked if they could give me an estimate. They looked at the car for maybe five minutes and then quoted me $1,600 for the job. They also asked for an $800 deposit upfront. I thought that was a pretty large deposit, but since I planned on getting the work done there, I paid it and scheduled the repair for later in the week. The next day I heard some negative things about the shop and it made me uncomfortable moving forward. I called the owner, Mo, and asked if I could cancel the appointment and get my $800 deposit back. Right away he became defensive and told me I couldn't cancel and that the deposit was non-refundable. After going back and forth for a bit he hung up on me. When I called back, he said he would give me $600 back instead of the full $800 and that I would have to come to the shop to pick it up in cash. I went there in person to try to talk things through and ask why I couldn't get the full amount back, especially since no work had been done on my car. Instead of explaining, he started yelling and said that by canceling I was taking money out of his pocket. I stayed calm and just repeated that I was asking for my deposit back since no services were performed. He eventually told me to leave and continued saying they don't give refunds. So in the end, no work was done on my vehicle and they are still keeping my $800 deposit. The way this situation was handled felt extremely unprofessional and frustrating. At this point I may have to consider small claims court to try to recover my deposit. I'm sharing my experience so others can be aware before deciding to bring their vehicle here. After this happened I also went back and looked through the previous 5-star reviews on this page. Many of them seemed very generic and were all posted within about a two-week period, which made them seem questionable to me. I would encourage people to read through all the reviews carefully before choosing this shop.

Dropped off the car, got a couple of update texts with digital photos during the day. They diagnosed the problem as a brake fluid leak. I didn't like the look of some other parts in the photos, so asked them to do the extra work. Picked up the car the next day; brakes were just as soft as when I brought it in!! I called and brought the car right back. Didn't have a ride home, ‍ but they were nice enough to offer me a ride home. Pretty disappointed as a first time customer. Will update when I finally get the car back.

I dropped off the vehicle today around 9AM and was greeted by Tom (the father), he explained appropriately how much it would cost and told me that they were down a few men due to COVID but, my car would be ready by the end of the day. At 11:15 Tom (the father) contacted me to tell my car was ready. I went to pickup my vehicle around 2PM and was greeted by Tom (the son) he explained what was done and also explained that there was pieces of the brake pad sticking to the brake disc. Tom said that this was something that may fix itself as the vehicle is driving or may need servicing in a he future. I was pleased with the service and the way both Tom's treated the customer.
