Years ago I had my kitchen renovated by one contractor and guest bath renovated by another one. Both did marginal work and created a lot of stress in my life due to their lack of concern for 5-star service. I was so disillusioned that it took me over 10 years to find someone honest, reliable, gives attention to detail, and really cares about their work even though it isn't their own home. Ryan had renovated two condos on my floor and upon my neighbor's recommendation and seeing what a beautiful job he did with her kitchen, I decided to hire him for my master bathroom which was in dire need being almost 50 years old. The reasons for only 3 stars are: 1) What he said would be a 1 day job he prolonged into 3, & offered no real explanation other than being "tied up." The project was to be finished same day on Saturday, but then he said he would come back Sunday at 9am. Sunday at 8:45am he texts to say he can't make it (no explanation), so he reschedules for Monday at 1:30pm. Monday at 1:30pm he doesn't show, then we get a text at 1:40pm, & he ends up rescheduling for 5pm. 2) When he finally shows to finish the job, he brings his 2 boys w/him w/out even a heads-up. (Unprofessional & inconsiderate, in my opinion.) And he left black smudges & scratches on our newly painted kitchen cabinet doors. The bottom line is, we were just a small job for him, & therefore not a priority. I felt that acutely. He has a friendly & pleasant demeanor, and if you don't mind him not showing up sometimes & unannounced guests, you shouldn't have any problems. read more

Bad Person ***STAY AWAY*** Tricked me into paying double We agreed on a price which included everything, (supplies and labor.) I asked for a quote in writing and he said he does business the old school way with a man to man hand shake. Ryan made me pay for all the supplies by cash during the work and then when the work was done, he asked for the total price that he quoted me. This is not what we agreed on and it doubled my cost. He wouldn't work with me on the price and he kept yelling he didn't go into business to be the lowest price contractor on the island. He said he'll take me to court so i just paid the scammer. * Beware, he's very nice when you meet him and makes you feel like you're his friend but he'll betray you. I honestly think he's desperate for the money and he's moving to the big island so he doesn't care about his reputation. * He says he's the best contractor on the island and shows you pics of past jobs he's done but his work is really just AVERAGE. * He started the job and then kept rescheduling to compete it. My parents were visiting for a week and they ended up having to stay somewhere else which cost them money they weren't expecting to pay. read more

I was in need of a handyman service to help me make some repairs in a new condo unit I bought and so I reached out to Yelp to get some estimated quotes from several different businesses (Yelp allows you to request quotes from up to 10 businesses, I had sent requests to 7). The work I wanted to be done included a mirror and hanging rack that needed to be lowered, air gaps of varying sizes at several located pipe penetration areas (under kitchen and bathroom sinks) that needed to be sealed, a smoke alarm that needed to be installed in the bedroom ceiling, a deadbolt lock that needed to be removed and replaced, and various areas in the bathroom cabinets and Jacuzzi tub that needed re-caulking. Ryan Repair & Remodel sent me a message within just a few hours, which included an estimated cost of $200 which I felt was reasonable for all of the work. He mentioned that he normally does not do business on the West coast of O'ahu (1 hour drive to and from my condo unit), however, he was very kind to make an exception for me and help me out with my repairs. A lot of businesses sent me messages saying they wouldn't help me due to how far I live, but Ryan was one that was willing to make the drive to help me and for that I already felt incredibly grateful. He was also very gracious in our initial phone conversation, providing me with tips on where and how to purchase a smoke alarm and a new dead bolt locking system. From there we scheduled for Friday morning for him to come in and work on the repairs. On Friday, he came in right on time at 9:30am and went straight to work in my kitchen. He didn't waste any time and did a magnificent job handling all of the repairs. He was also able to kindly provide me with suggestions on how I could fix my garbage disposal which was making a loud rattling noise as well as helped me to identify the problem with my patio doors which were hard to open (need wheels to be replaced and/or lubrication due to the salt air). Overall, I rate Ryan Repair & Remodel with 5 out of 5 stars and would happily recommend him to any one of my friends, family members, and anyone needing repairs and/or remodeling done in their home. Just had Ryan back for another, smaller, job to build a porch under our carport. We had an existing one done by another handyman that was, frankly, garbage. Ryan came over and we took 20 minutes to discuss options on how I would like it to look. I called in an order for the wood (though he did figure out a way to re-use most of what we had), he picked it up and was back and working that day. Finished it promptly and it looks a thousand times better, plus it is more sturdy and people won't be catching their slippah and falling on their face. I've hired Ryan for 2 jobs now and he is about to start a 3rd one, which means more than that 5 star rating. One other very important thing -- he wants to do the job right. While scouring the internet for someone to help me with my kitchen renovation in June 2019, I stumbled upon a bunch of 4 1/2 to 5-star reviews of Ryan's Remodel and Repairs. I knew I found the right professional for me as we visited about my project. He gave me a fair and reasonable estimate in price and time and made good on it. My kitchen turned out so fabulously that I hired him to restore my living room and kitchen ceilings after asbestos abatement. They turned out so beautifully that I've recently hired him to install my new engineered wood flooring and baseboards. This latest job is nearing completion now and looks spectacular. I couldn't be happier with his eye for beauty and detail in each of my three projects--he clearly takes pride in doing a job right no matter how big or small. I'm sorry to read other reviews of folks who are not satisfied with his reliability. I scheduled a repair job a few weeks in advance. Ryan asked me to text him the reminder so I did. He had a good window of time to do the job because I needed to squeeze him in between my two guests who stayed there. But that morning, he texted me saying sorry he has to cancel and that his phone is running at 4%. He said that day was going really bad for him. That's understandable. This guy just kept wasting my time. Flaky. I wanted a written estimate and he continually said sure and would never deliver. He came and looked at my drywall issue. He poked a couple holes and then left. He kept giving me lame excuses like "my email isn't working." I have given up on this guy. We had a leak in the upstairs shower and we had Ryan come to fix the drywall in the ceiling after the plumbing was repaired. He was quick to respond and showed up when he said he would. If you're looking for a skilled handyman who works efficiently and is a good communicator and problem solver, call Ryan. I initially called Ryan to fix an old wooden gate repaired by another handyman just two years ago. While talking to him, I found out that he could do other types of repairs, including some plumbing. We agreed that he would fix the gate, unclog a sink, and change a faucet for a reasonable fee. A couple days later, he came on time on moped fully equipped with all his tools. He worked continuously for the next 7 hours or so and managed to clear all items on my "to repair" list. He took apart the gate, replaced all rotted pieces, primed, and painted it. To fix the sink and faucet, he needed to turn off the main water supply, which was next to impossible with the frozen rusty cut-off valve. I probably would have had to call in a plumber to do that costly job when he thought of an ingenious, much cheaper solution: a shark bite valve. He also put up a much-needed clothesline. I was thoroughly happy with the quality of his work and impressed by his diligence and integrity. I will definitely be calling him in the future. read more

Ryan came to replace my garage sliding doors that succumbed to termites and fell off the tracks. I was glad that he came when he said he would to re-hang new sliding doors. After several days of working on the door, the wood doors were to be painted. Well, the quart of paint ran out and the paint was still "ghosting" but Ryan hung the doors anyway. When I returned home to inspect the work, I found that Ryan didn't paint the exposed wood where the door tracks hung from. He then said if you buy more paint I can come back to paint them. Before he left, I asked for a printed receipt. Ryan said he would have to send them to me by email but he never did. He charged over $800 yet never sent a receipt. Am I buying items that he used for the job but he took home? He sure didn't mention a discount when he didn't fully complete the job. Follow through on job completion is my main concern.
