Told me the car was driveable, but I should stop by his shop on my way back to the cottage. When I stopped by later, Scott crawled under the car to examine the issue (the racks were all occupied). Caleb invited me to stop by and have the vehicle looked at and test driven. A couple hours later I did just that. The man at the front desk, Joe, listened to my description of what I perceived as a potential 'issue' and we took the car for a drive up and down M-75 for 15 minutes. Joe drove and did some things one does to check if the issue could be a bad bearing or not. He noticed nothing unusual during that test or while braking. Upon arriving back at the shop he put it up on a lift to do a visual inspection of the rotors and pads. Not only did he not find anything, he pointed out to me what great condition the entire mechanism was in. He said the pads were good with at least 80% life left. Rotors were good looking, no scoring or corrosion. No charge, just good customer service. For someone like me who is new to the area I need to know service providers who are trustworthy and willing to win my business. Really made my day as brake jobs are not cheap. He invited me to stop by anytime if anything at all seems fishy. I will.

On vacation in the Charlevoix area, we experienced what no vacationer wants to experience: car…read moreproblems. Specifically, a flat tire. Bad luck. Good luck: this business was just a block away. We slowly drove our car into their very busy shop on a Thursday morning and were immediately greeted by two staff who left a project to help us. Within 10-minutes, they had our tire off and in a tub of water to find the leak. Because we had driven a while on a low tire, unknowingly, there was evidence of side wall damage. We dreaded a big bill and long wait. More good luck: a screw was retrieved, the pressure left in the tire was adequate to not ruin it and our hole was foxed within 15-minutes. The auto repair staff and office staff were all wonderful. They were reassuring, honest and made us feel at home. They could have easily put us at the back of the line (we are out of towners) or sold us an expensive new tire. We walked away with a $25 repair bill. They even let us keep our car on their property while we went to breakfast and explored downtown on bikes. You don't find business like this these days. Please give them your business and respect. Wish we lived closer. They would be our go-to for car repairs.

Bill's Auto Clinic repaired the truck that we haul our camper with when we were vacationing in the…read morearea for the 4th of July. The transmission was slipping, and we couldn't keep fluid in it. It was also stalling when idling. We left a message at the shop on Sunday and got a call back first thing Monday morning from Gordy. The shop wasn't technically open Monday because they were to be closed for the holiday that day, too, but Gordy was in anyhow. He had us come in so that he could take a look at our vehicle and take it for a test drive. We originally thought we'd have to have the trans rebuilt, but after Gordy inspected and drove it, he thought the only thing wrong was the transmission cooling lines. He said he couldn't be 100% sure about that until he got into it, but he assured us that even if they did have to rebuild the trans, they would be done in time for us to head home Friday as planned. They had the truck done and ready for us to pick up on Thursday. Gordy's feeling that it was the lines and not the trans itself was right. They also found that the fuel filter was clogged, which was causing the stalling, and they replaced that as well. All was good with the truck to take us back home to Ohio. When we first got there, I was a bit apprehensive about having them work on our truck because of the shop's appearance. Let's just say it's not a chain repair shop, and it has a very "homey" feel! But Gordy and Bill were straightforward and down to earth, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. When we dropped the truck off, we chatted with Gordy for quite some time. (Our ride took a while to get there, so Gordy even offered take us where we needed to go.) During our conversation, we learned that Bill has had that shop for 40-some years and Gordy has worked with him for many of those, so these guys have a lot of experience. Plus, when we picked up the truck, Bill offered our dog a biscuit, so a couple more points there!

I took it to Bill's first think on Monday morning and explained my situation. He was kind enough get me right in and found that it wasn't transmission fluid at all, but coolant leaking from a cracked plastic Tee in the heater hose. He went out of his way to diagnose and repair my car and had me back on the road in no time. He said he knows how it is to be on vacation, have your car break down in a place with which you're not familiar or know who to trust. I really appreciated it.
