He was very professional, always available to answer my questions, and offered great suggestions whenever I wasn't sure what to do. He followed up consistently and made the whole process feel smooth and manageable. I really felt like I could trust him and the company from start to finish. I also want to thank everyone involved in the project--from the crew who broke down walls and cleaned up, to the electricians, plumbers, and everyone else behind the scenes. Wow wow wow! RWK Construction finished our basement in around 4 months. I can't recommend them enough! The basement turned out beautiful with 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, under stair closet and a huge family room. It is everything we wanted. This was our second project with RWK and I hope to have more in a few years. The first project last year was the kitchen and main living area and involved removing a wall and installing a large support beam. This year we did the master bath and upstairs bath. The master bath involved switching the closet and bath area to take in the views of the hills. I requested to work with Jeff Rogers the second time because he is amazing . He was the PM on both jobs and always kept me informed about who was coming to the house and when. We were on schedule and under budget the first time and on budget the second time-mostly because I spent a bit more on nice custom cabinets. Jeff is always pleasant and able to guide and direct you on what you need to be thinking about and what items you need to choose. Not sure how he remembers it all with other projects going on. He always made me feel like I was the only project he was working on, but I know he had about 6 going at the same time. I always felt I was treated fair and honestly, which is rare in the construction world these days. Ryan explained any billing questions I had quickly and fairly. I would recommend them to everyone except then they might be too busy for my next project :)) read more

We have loved working with RWK to finish our basement. They did a great job and MAX was the BEST Project Manager! He made this process so smooth for us. I seriously think I would have gone insane trying to coordinate everything. He was so kind, checked in everyday, met with us around our schedule, listened to our concerns, etc. We can't say enough good things about him. He always went above and beyond and made sure things were done right. Communication was key with him. He maintained an app for us with the process and dates scheduled out. We hired Ryan/RWK to do a basement finish for us about 9 months ago. Needless to say it was not a pleasant experience and is one of the worst and most expensive contractor/construction mistake we have ever made. During the project RWK would schedule subs to come and go as they pleased making the provided schedule completely inaccurate. Many of the subs used our front door and went up and down our main stairs tracking in dirt, leaving the front door open (middle of winter) instead of using the large basement windows so we had very little privacy or input on any of the scheduling. Our house was disgustingly dirty throughout the 6 months because the basement was rarely cleaned. There was enough dust/dirt/debris that our home's fire alarms would go off when the heater would kick on...even in the middle of the night. We discussed the problem with Ryan/RWK and they told us they would get to it, they never did...after several weeks of this issue I finally grabbed the kids and wife and we rolled up our sleeves and went down and cleaned it ourselves, which surprise surprise caused the fire alarms to stop going off. After that point, we just kept cleaning the site to avoid the alarms going off again. RWK never addressed the problem. During that time our heater actually turned itself off in the middle of December, RWK said it wasn't their fault, but the 3rd party HVAC company said that our heater had been stressed to the point of failure due to the unclean surroundings...that's what gave us the idea to clean for the fire alarms. The project suffered massive delays due to poor scheduling, and poor communication. We ended up having to take days off work in an emergency fashion to go pick things out to keep additional delays from occurring. Some of the work done was bad enough that even we would find the poor workmanship and quality while just walking around the recently completed work at/that night. An example of our experience: that picture of a deep hole in the concrete floor the only reason it was repaired was because the city inspector came out and even though it wasn't what he was inspecting, he made a specific note about it as it was big enough to start caving and expanding. Until that point RWK told us it was fine and didn't need to be addressed...they caused it when jackhammering for plumbing. Even with all this going on, the heavy delays, the miscommunications, the poor scheduling RWK never offered anything more than a "Sorry". They did not try to make up for the delays/poor quality workmanship by doing anything extra for us, or even discounting the price of the project. Because our contract did not include anything about penalties resulting in delays or issues in poor workmanship we were charged close to full price of around $60k. In fact, at closing Ryan actually tried to charge us full price for cleaning. Our latest challenge is 2-3 months after the work has been completed we are having issues getting repairs under the 1 year warranty RWK provided as part of our contract. Any scheduled work thus far has always been very slow and usually requires multiple times contacting Ryan to keep things moving. Who knows, maybe this is all our fault, we had hoped for trust and professionalism, and maybe we were too uninformed so RWK got relaxed and figured they could just slip things by us. Included are some pictures of a few problems we documented with RWK along the way. Should have taken longer and looked closer at some of the other contractors like Salt, whom we got a bid from, but liked Ryan's sales pitch more. Guess we'll chalk it up as a very expensive learning experience. Hopefully this helps you learn from our mistakes. read more

About a year ago, after sifting through several different contractors, we decided on RWK Construction to complete our basement. I would have written this review earlier, but I waited a year to see how things would shake out in our basement. I can tell you that even after a year, everything is working great. RWK built a beautiful and simple basement, with matching trim to the main floor. We built two bedrooms, a bathroom, a storage room and left the remaining space as an open plan. We gave them a general idea of what we wanted, and I must say, they executed all of it very well. RWK stayed within budget. They were roughly on time with the project, maybe a bit longer than expected, but it was worth the wait. The most interesting part of their work was how they handled the large beams supporting the main floor under the bathrooms and the appliances in the kitchen and laundry rooms. In both cases, the beams were wrapped in deep soffits of drywall with rounded corners, while retaining the higher ceiling in all other areas. The high ceilings make our basement feel bigger. We got a granite counter top for the bathroom. Wired network connections in both bedrooms and in two locations in the open space. Lighting was more than sufficient for the basement with down lights at regular intervals throughout. They even matched the bedroom and storage room lighting to the original lighting on the main floor. We asked for long wear vinyl for the open area, bathroom and storage. We asked for carpet for the bedrooms. We got what we asked for. RWK exceeded our expectations with the closets in the bedroom by providing practical and tastefully appointed shelving therein. Our expectations were exceeded again with a Moen faucet in the bathroom, a very practical shower stall with a curtain (rather than a sliding door), and excellent cabinet work. I am one very happy customer with RWK and offer a strong recommendation to anyone who is planning to finish their basement. And since they did such a great job on the basement, I'm sure they could handle any home remodeling task you have in mind with aplomb. read more
