The concept is amazing; their delivery: leaves much to be desired. Upon arriving 3 mins before…read moretheir 4:15pm start time, we walked into the downstairs of Capital to see the rest of the tour folks taking a drink of the 2nd beer sample. I politely ask the tour guide, "What beers were sampled today?" His response was a look of confusion, and he didn't know the beers that were sampled. Better yet, we were not even offered the samples. Strike 1. Everything seemed a little disorganized and that was made evident when the owner, not giving the tour this past Saturday, asks "Who hasn't purchased tickets yet?" We were immediately looked at and given the look, you're not going on the tour because you walked in last; regardless of the fact that we purchased our tickets over a month beforehand. Evidently, the company could not count the number of people on their own tour list to see that we had 2 people too many. A couple that was there on their anniversary date were asked/told they would not be going and they would be given an extra two tickets. Strike 2. Upon getting on the bus and rolling over to Legends the group we were with was a solid group. We were all joking and having a good time. At Legends everything was a little chaotic and not organized at all (definitely not a shock after our start). It was nothing beyond the standard Legend flight, that was poured and half the time the tour guide pouring didn't know what was in the pitcher (Pale or IPA, he did not know). Really? Also, we were told nothing about the beers that were being poured, were given no tour or description how they brew there, nothing. Strike 3. Next up was Midnight Brewery. We arrive and find out there is some beer festival going on; interesting. We get inside and the guide has no idea what is going on. 5-10 mins later he walks around and hands us all a $5 beer coupon and says, "They are not doing samples due to the event." Ok. So my group and myself proceed up to the pouring area and talk to the bartender. Super nice and points out that most of the small brewery owners were there hanging out. So, the bartender knows more than our guide, awesome! We get introduced to the owner and was ask him to give us a tour. He was very welcoming and then introduced us to Neil Burton, the founder of Strangeways (where we were heading next). A huge thumbs ups for Midnight! Tour company: strike 4. We get to Strangeways and everything was. . . . unorganized/chaotic. Surprised? Me either. They give us a few samples to taste, and were nice. We again, heard nothing about their brewing process, did not see the brewing room, nothing. The beer was tasty, no question. Strike 5. This tour needs a major overhaul for it to be worth it. At $65 a ticket, this was one of the biggest wastes of $130 we had spent on a night out ever. I'm not one to bash a company, but for the 3 places we went (I'm not counting Capital since we didn't get any samples there) we could have gone and asked for a tour, had a few samples and spent half what we did.

Tommy was great to work with and our driver Jay was both informative and a ton of fun..(maybe I should mention patient and tolerable as well!! )We started off at COTU with a tasty, generous tasting and little history of the brewery in a private room in the back. Despite that, I arrived on time but other guests did not and arrived over 30 minutes late. My 1 hour ghost tour was 3 hours long. However, I really enjoyed the ghost tour guide and the content was Ok. The content of the two hour trolley tour was really informative and comprehensive but the trolley struggled to get up many of the hills in Richmond and was loud and the exhaust smelly. Having the older, southern gentleman tour guide refer to me as a yankee I did not appreciate- not because it isn't true but because I was raised in the deep south and more southern than him. Asking questions was not encouraged on the trolley tour.

I had the pleasure of being gifted a tour certificate from my co-workers who all know how much of a foodie I am. I finally found a good time to go when the weather was pretty mellow, and it was just perfect to walk around for the tour. I opted for the Churchill food tour, and shockingly had not tried many of the places on the tour, so was in for a treat. I wasn't expecting the history tour along with it, but that was nice to hear about Richmond's history while walking and site seeing. The tour guides are great and excited to be there and giving the tours, which also makes for a great experience. There were about five stops on the tour within two hours and it was a nice balance of walking, eating and taking breaks to learn. Some tours and stops even include alcohol, so that was a nice surprise. I've already bought another gift certificate to check out a different food tour. Highly recommend this experience to all, especially my foodies and history buffs!

Save your money and just go to a few breweries and you'll thank me later. The tour which we selected didn't even go to the breweries they advertised. Them going out of business is the least terrible thing I wish upon them because this kind of predatory antics shouldn't exist in what I thought was a first world country. That being said, this review in no way should be taken against the destinations visited. They were very accommodating having been given no notice we were coming. We could not have asked for better service at each brewery. Please give your money directly to these organizations and cut out the middle man.

If I could give negative stars I would and here is why:…read more 1) We did 0 tours, although we went to 4 different locations. So our group learned nothing about beer or alcohol and its process. The Educational experience of the tour that is promised on their site and general opening guidelines on the tour was not provided in any form. 2) Only one location ever spoke to us about the drinks they were serving us and served us personally (i.e. the name, its background, alcohol content, etc.). At the other 3 locations we went to flights were just brought to our table randomly by our driver/guide. They were not labeled and they were not explained. Essentially we were given drinks with no idea what we were drinking, the alcohol content level and if we did want to purchase said drink there was no way of us knowing which beer and or alcohol was used. Furthermore, no one from the actual establishment greeted us, served us drinks and  or gave us any background on their brewery/distillery. 3) On their website the Saturday tour lists: Castleburg Brewery, James River Distillery, Cirrus Vodka and Guides Choice as the tours for the Saturday option. When we arrived at Castleburg Brewery our driver/guide informed us that we would be visiting 4 breweries. It wasn't until myself and two other people on the tour asked about the list online and  voiced our expectations to visit Distilleries as that was the main reason we chose Saturday's tour for the diversity that the guide "fit in" a tour to Cirrus Vodka and the rest of the tours were breweries. 4) Lastly, and the most disturbing of the entire day, one of the couples on the tour brought their infant (possibly a newborn) child with them (I did not ask but the baby looked to be less than 2 months old if not younger). The couple had the baby in a carrier while they went to each location and drank along with the rest of us and often times the child would begin to get fussy and or cry as babies do.  I was deeply disturbed by this for multiple reasons and was unaware that anyone under the age of 21 years old was even allowed to participate on a drinking tour with a waiver that requires 21 years of age. This amongst the other unexpected happenings on our tour made for a very disappointing, uncomfortable and frustrating experience. Post our tour I tried to contact the company multiple times via phone and e-mail. No one returned my phone calls and then when I was able to make contact with someone via e-mail and voiced the concerns above not only did they not feel the need to call as requested and discuss their response was "we believe we fully offered the service you paid for and will not provide a refund". My husband and I were visiting Richmond for our wedding anniversary and up until the tour we were having a great and relaxing experience. We have done the Drink Williamsburg Experience tour in  November of last year and had such a great time we sought to do it with this company in Richmond. BIG MISTAKE. THIS COMPANY IS DISMISSIVE, UNPROFESSIONAL AND SHOULD NOT BE LICENSED. DO NOT WASTE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY.

And they all were great!! This is a walking tour and luckily the weather on June 7th was perfecto!!! Our tour guide Leah (Aleah maybe) was very informative and excited to show us around. The group consisted mostly of couples that seemed to be familiar with the surroundings. However, my guest and I were new to the tour and very much new to the Richmond's food scene. Therefore, we were already excited to be there and to experience some of VCU's Alternative Eats (that was the name of the tour)!! We were encouraged to wear comfy shoes of course and the meeting spot was a museum on VCU's campus. Most of the tours are walking tours, but Leah informed me about one (or two maybe) tour is on a bus throughout Richmond. The tours are held every weekend rain or shine. We parked on the street (2 hour parking) but the tour was from 2-430pm so we figured oh no...better get money out for the towing company. We didn't return to the car until 5ish but the car was still there unticketed...yes!!! All the places on the tour were great in their own way. This was a great group and I liked them all. If you want to try something new for cheap (take into acct two people at a restaurant spending about $50...but you get to go to 5 restaurants for $110) in my opinion, I definitely recommend it. They don't tell you the restaurants ahead of time so it's a hit or miss I assume, but being that our tour guide is a reviewer herself, I doubt she would set you up for failure. It's definitely ideal to not eat before the tour because after the 3rd stop I was full!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And the portions are hearty, not finger foods on this tour. I can't wait to go back and try another area in Richmond... Have fun! We hired Dennis on 4/25/15 for a Charlottesville wine tour. We started our tour at 12 noon and finished up around 5-5:30pm. We visited four wineries; Pippin Hill, Pollack, Veritas and King Family. There were three women total. We fit comfortably in his town car. The seats were very comfortable and the ride was smooth. The car was extremely clean and smelt very fresh. He provided us with complimentary bottled waters during the tour and was always prompt. Everytime I called he answered all my questions and concerns. He also returned my calls and replied to my voice message in a very timely matter. He was very flexible and allowed us to choose the wineries we wanted to visit. We had a change in plans and had to change our route around and he had no objections. This company is very reasonably price and most of the other drivers in Charlottesville don't reply back very quickly and are hard to get in touch with. I also highly recommend staying at the Hyatt Place (2100 Bond Street) hotel near The Stonefield shopping center. It's one of the newest, cleanest, and modern hotels in Charlottesville as of today. They book fast so don't wait! This hotel is also located right across the street from the brand new shopping center which is literally in walking distance to all the restaurants, bars, movie theater, nail salon, spa, yoga and other shops! It's perfect because you don't have to drive anywhere :)
