We pulled off in Grand Junction and started making calls to find someone who could take a look, and hopefully get us back on the road within 24 hours as we were meeting up with friends for my wife's birthday. The problem with our plan was that it was 4:00 pm and every shop in town that I talked to said 'They were closing for the night, and that Grand Junction, being a small town, nobody would even look at our rig for the next 2 or 3 days'. That was, until I called Transwest Truck Trailer RV and talked to Marvin. Marvin told me that he would be working until midnight, and he would do his best to get someone to take a look at our rig, maybe not until morning as there were several jobs in the queue ahead of us, but he'd try. Well he didn't just try. He talked to Wil, one of the mechanics whose shift had just ended as we pulled in, and explained our situation. Wil clocked back in and was under our coach within half hour of our arrival. He determined the problem (bad air leveling rod bushing), rebuilt, and resecured it in under an hour and had us back on our way with barely a couple hours lost; and the cost was a lot less than it would have been at the Freightliner shop back home. I can't praise highly enough the care, courtesy, and professionalism shown us by Marvin and Wil. They went the extra mile for us and made sure our trip wasn't ruined.

Having been in the business a long time, dealers I worked at in 2 different states would NEVER sell a car with under 4MM. 2-3MM is UNSAFE and causes LONGER stopping distance. But they do not care here. I only found out after asking for the Used car Inspection report on the car. ALWAYS ask for that if a dealer refuses go somewhere else they are hiding something. I am still considering reporting this dealer for this, lord knows they are surely NOT able to be trusted if they would let a vehicle leave with unsafe brakes. SEE BELOW UNDER ITEMS REQUIRING IMMEDIATE ATTENTION !!!!! Brake Pad Thickness Levels New (8 mm to 12 mm): Full performance and maximum stopping power. Worn (4 mm to 6 mm): Mid-life; plan to change them soon. Critical Unsafe (2 mm to 3 mm): Dangerous zone; stopping distance increases and risk of damaging the metal rotor grows. As I was paying for this work a mechanic mentioned that he was surprised I didn't ask to replace the fan clutch. I had never heard of a fan clutch. I tested the work by driving out to the 18 Road trails and sure enough, it was still over-heating. So they replaced the fan clutch. It would have been cheaper of course to do everything at one time. A good shop would have mentioned that issue up front instead of trusting the customer to know the solutions. Soon after this work it snowed and the camper van mostly sat unused from late October 2020 to the end of March 2021. In May and June 2021, just months after this initial work, I had to have the water pump and fan clutch replaced by a shop in Junction. That means I got only 2 - 3 months use out of the parts they installed. They installed either junk or did a poor job of installing them. I won't be back there. The shop I use now is terrific and I'm having my two older vehicles being well maintained there. They include needed future work on the invoice so I can plan my maintenance and pre-empt problems when traveling in remote areas such as south Utah or the Colorado mountains.

They are good, honest, transparent and affordable - truly a small business worthy of your support and the mechanic you deserve to take care of your car. We found ourselves stranded in Grand Junction about 200 miles from home on a Saturday afternoon and almost had lost all faith in humanity after calling every single mechanic/tire shop in town trying to get help before every one closed for the weekend. All the big name corporate shops (Big O, Firestone, etc) were backed up or claimed they could not do diagnostics on our vehicle on a weekend despite providing outrageous quotes and having us stop by" just to see" before ultimately turning us away. Finally after stopping by 3 different shops and 18 phone calls around town, we found Good Neighbor Mechanics and they came through for us. This husband and wife duo are 100% good people. They are kind, honest, transparent and knowledgeable. We were told by multiple mechanics that labor would take 2-3 hours minimum and that we would have to fix more parts than we really needed to in order to get back on the road. Mike was able to fix our issue in a grocery store parking lot in 80 degree weather in under 45 minutes with out all the resources of a big corporate operation. With in minutes he was able to diagnose the issue and his wife Frankie drove across the parking lot to the parts store to get the parts they needed, which they didn't even up charge us for. Mike was very educational with me about what he was seeing under the hood and even made recommendations on things he thought I should address once we made it home. Frankie even followed up with us a few days later to make sure we made it home safely and that there weren't any new issues. Hands down this was the best experience with any autoshop or mechanic I've ever had.
