Rusty's is a great way to experience Bishop. A small town bar with interesting people. The beer is good and the price was very affordable. NICE place! But there is a big problem with the police. You can really see them at all parts of Bishop. You have speed traps as you enter the town from LA or Mammoth. They job is to keep visitors out of Bishop and leave as big of a BAD impression on all visitors to just keep driving. I did not get a ticket nor was I stopped but the lineup of losers along the side of the road that got nailed, said it all. These people will not be coming back to Bishop any time soon. Add to this, the harassment at night from the police as you WALK about town, adds to this overly aggressive police department anti-visitor approach to guests. Leaving Rusty's, a group of us walked to Denny's up the street to get some late night food and back to the motel . Several cops followed us slowly from their cars as we walked the several blocks to Denny's. They were also stopping anyone that was driving on the road too. What a shakedown! About 10 minutes after we got to Denny's, which already had a lot of late night diners in it, the police decided to come in and "walk" the tables to make sure their presence known. AMAZING!! My friends and I will probably stop in Long Pine next time and try to bypass as much of Bishop as we can. read more

Rusty's is the ultimate dive bar and I love it! They started remolding but haven't finished yet. I love that they kept some of the original artwork from the once local brothel. I have been to Rusty's a few times and every time I'm there they have added something new, they are offering new drink specials or there are new changes coming. It's pretty nice to see a bar that puts the effort into keeping it fresh for locals and fun for passers through. Had a different bartender every time I go and they all seem pretty friendly, and are more than happy to give info on the good spots to eat around town. I like this place so much that I have actually never even bothered to go to any other places in town!! And although Rusty's doesn't immediately come across as a sports bar to me, they have tons of tv's and lots of sports time specials. Had a great time at Rusty'sl! I love that it is a little dive bar but smoking is only allowed out back. We stopped in for one drink, that turned into 5. Fortunately we walked there so we crawled back to the hotel room, which happens to be owned by the bartenders family. Everyone was great and we can't wait to come back to visit! A regular old dive bar with dirty glasses and plenty of local drunks that have grown roots around their bar stools. I think the best part was the 1950s style front entrance (even though most visitors go through the back door). With pinball machines and pool tables, there's plenty to stay entertained. Okay, considering there are only three bars in Bishop (yes, we went to all three) this place easily gets the full 5-stars. Some local bars give out-of-towners a big f-u but the bartender and staff at Rusty's were super nice, made awesome drinks and it's dive bar prices. Doesn't get much better. Rusty's is your classic small town American dive bar. It is by far the best place in Bishop to get a drink and catch a game. However, if it's a NFL game you desire to see you might have to fight one of the locals for the big screen 'cause being that Bishop isn't exactly the big city means that NASCAR is king. Cute hole in the wall with cheap drinks. Locals aren't too welcoming to tourist coming thru, which is a surprise since it's a drive thru town for visitors. Drinks are basic well drinks and beer. The bartender wasn't friendly and was actually rude when my friend asked what was in a certain drink. The first review! Well Bishop in general is not much of a place to hang out. Unless you live in Mammoth there is no reason to hang out there, unless you're fishing. So if you happen to be on your way home from Mammoth or just traveling up 395 Rusty's is a good spot to grab a beer or 2 then hit the road.
