I usually avoid dining at hotels because the food tends to be a little generic, but we decided to eat dinner at Rusty's Bistro since it was convenient and allowed us to spend more time at the beach instead of driving or taking a trolley. The menu sounded good, but I kept my expectations low because of the negative reviews. To my pleasant surprise, I was blown away by how good the food was!!! This might be some of the best seafood I have ever ordered on the beach! Rusty's Bistro, located at the Sheraton Sand Key Resort, is one of more upscale restaurants of the three choices at the resort. The menu includes many local seafood choices as well as several dishes with an Italian flair. The kid's menu offers everything from steak Kabobs and fish and chips to children favorites such as chicken tenders, hot dogs, burgers and pasta. Everything we ordered was excellent, even the children meals were or high quality! My husband and I shared an appetizer of PEI mussels that were accompanied by the tastiest broth and charred bread. For my entree I selected the scallops and my husband ordered the catch of the day. The side dishes change seasonally so you can always expect the freshest vegetables to be served with your entree. The service was just as excellent as our meal. We adored our server and the manager made time to stop by our table to chat with us. When we mentioned the food was so good, but we wish we weren't seated next to the kitchen with the loud construction they offered to immediately move our table and offered complimentary dessert. Excellent service. We love coming here for thanksgiving. They have a prix fixed menu. We all chose the lobster bisque to start. For the main course My brother chose the traditional turkey dinner and the rest of us ordered the prime rib. It was incredibly best one I've ever had. Juicy and tender meat. And the mascarpone mashed potatoes were a great accompaniment. For desserts were great we got pumpkin cheesecake, chocolate bomb, and pineapple upside cake with coconut ice cream. This may be the most deeply underrated restaurant I've ever been to- I'm so confused. Staying for a conference (which usually means you're held captive by the hotel kitchen for days on end and just hoping to not go to bed hungry or wake up with food poisoning.) Not this place. The marketing team at the hotel severely missed the opportunity to highlight this restaurant and its executive chef. First night I ate here exhausted from travel. I thought they were closed because there was only one other group in the restaurant. The device was five star- I practically had my own waiter. I had the burata caprese because I will always get it if it's on a menu. There types of fresh, chilled, flavorful tomatoes and creamy burratta. Omg. Yes. Waiter casually mentions do you want bread- sure. I've learned one my second trip back- YES - you absolutely want the bread. It's amazing. The perfect mix of flavor soft and light on the inside white just enough texture on the crust to hold up sprinkled with cheese. I'm told by tonight's waiter it's apparently one of the chef's particular talents with study of pizzas and such. It shows. He gets textures very well. For my meal I had the ny strip. Hate me all you want but as a traveler I have to get it well tone safe. Both times it's been juicy, flavorful, not tough, delicious. The broccolini was beautiful fresh green with that tough of garlic and the air gratin potatoes are not what you'd expect- think casserole/ratatouille but all potato. Amazing. Tonight I made it to dessert. A pineapple upside down cake with vanilla ice cream. It's not what you're expecting. It's better. Remember back to the starting with the bread. The chef shows how he has mastered that texture- crispy outside of the cake like it sizzled on a skillet and soft light spongy inside. Not dry. Not too dense. Cherries that didn't come out of a jar after being bleached to an unnatural color and flavor. Vibrant and a nice pairing with the creamy ice cream. Decided to eat here since I'm staying at the Sheraton. I'm never one to eat at the hotel restaurant but I was blown away at how good the food was here. I initially thought I would get couple appetizers, salad and the bisque. The server comes by and says there is a special and she said it was fresh pasta with basil cream sauce and crispy pork belly and shrimp. She highly recommended it so we said we will do that, salad and bisque and will share it all. Salad was good, dressing was slightly sweet with the tart. It had some good greens but not the typical lettuce. Then there was oranges, grapefruit and strawberries with the sweet nuts. I really enjoyed this salad. The bisque was good but too salty for my taste. My husband enjoyed it. I don't cook with much salt at home. Then the main event. The pasta just perfectly cook, the pork belly crispy like a Korean bbq. The shrimp was good but I fell in love with the pork belly. The sauce was cream sauce vs like an Alfredo sauce which has cheese. It was Percy for me as I don't like cheese. Super amazing special! read more

Somewhat surprisingly, quite good. Not perfect but well worth the meal during a crowded spring break. We started with the Risotto balls which were crispy and full of cheesy goodness. Also the olives were a surprise hit with a dash of meat and fried. For the main dishes, the steak frosted was a great value and well prepared (and mostly tender). The crab cake and filet was a huge hit. Great crab cake without too much filler. The tagliatelle Al Tartufo was pretty good too with mushrooms and tenderloin. It was just missing one thing: tagliatelle pasta. Instead it seemed to come with a spaghetti or angel hair with no explanation. The same with the seafood version of it. Weird and kinda disappointing since I love a good tagliatelle. The desserts were also mostly good. The key lime creek brûlée is a stand out without being too tart or sweet. The bread pudding was loved by my dining companion. The vanilla ice cream and caramel certainly made it but I found it lacking on the bread itself which felt just over cooked to me. Service was solid and food came out quickly. Decor inside is nondescript and kinda disappointing in a hotel sort of way. But would I comeback again? Yep. We ordered the super green salad, half rib with rice, and kid's burger with fries, along with a virgun Pina colada. Everything tasted amazing, surprisingly. The ribs were perfectly seasoned, sweet, juicy, tender and melt in your mouth. The salad was ok, could have added more stuff, because it looked half empty. The kids burger was the bomb, perfectly cooked, fries tasted great, my son loved it. And the virgin Pina colada was the star of the night. I arrived in Clearwater today and wanted to get something to eat close to my hotel. This place is actually inside of the Sheraton Hotel right on the Beach. They bring fresh baked bread assorted basket to the table with butter and Black Sea salt. The Black Sea Salt is from Hawaii as I understand it. We had several appetizers, Crab Cakes, Calamari, and cauliflower. All of them were excellent. The Calamari was very different from the usual. It was flat and cut into thin pie shaped slices. It was really good! The crab cakes were also quite tasty, although a bit on the small side. We also has the Shrimp Bisque Soup. The Soup was just ok, my bowl only had 1 shrimp in it. The kids enjoyed their hotdogs and spaghetti and they were "made for Kids" which was perfect. My wife and I split a grilled chicken dish and it was also delicious. For the price I would expect a bit more/better food, if our meal was say 5-10% less or the portions were larger I would give this place 5 stars. read more

I had the tagliatelle pasta with beef, mushrooms and pecorino cheese. It was amazing! The taste and temperature were spot on. Incredible. Husband had steak with a crab cake- both outstanding! Oh, how could I forget about the bread basket...variety of breads all fresh, warm and tasty. The butter with the black salt - yum. Usually hotel restaurants aren't anything special.. but this is a HUGE exception. If Rusty's was back where we're from, my wife and I would be frequent visitors. I would put it up there as the second best restaurant I've been to, all while maintaining reasonable prices for the food you get. I ordered the Grouper while my wife ordered the Steak and Crab Cake. To me, walleye is by far the best fish you can eat, BUT this dish was a very close second. The sauce drizzled on the fish and greens is delicious. As for my wife's dish, she said very well could have sent the steak knife back to the chef. Overall, great atmosphere and great service. I can NOT believe I'm giving 5-stars to a hotel restaurant. They are usually the worst (you foodies know this) but I had breakfast here two days in a row and they delivered an impressive breakfast. While staying at the Sheraton we dinner at Rusty's once, and took it to go another night. We had four different dishes that ranged from surf and turf to chicken pasta (chef creation), and shrimp pasta. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I personally had the chef creation and it was AMAZING! The flavor was great and the left overs were just as delicious. They provide you with bread before your meal and it was really good to. I hate that I didn't get the servers name because she was very kind. The restaurant is a little on the darker side, with a low noise level. We didn't make it for their breakfast, but absolutely enjoyed their dinner! read more

My son and I went to Rusty's to have Thanksgiving dinner. It was three courses for $52 per person. We both ordered the lobster bisque. I had noticed a table close to us was talking to the waiter and he was apologetic and appeared to be removing their bowls. There was a long delay and our waiter said there was a problem with the bisque and they were remaking it, hence the delay. He then brought out the bisque and I tried mine and nearly gagged. It had a horrible smell and metallic taste! My son also said it was really bad so we sent them back. The waiter brought me a Cesar salad instead of the beet salad I had requested, but I didn't want to make a big deal about it so I ate it. The main course was good. Turkey, dressing and mashed potatoes were very tasty. Green beans were just ok. The desserts were good but a tiny amount. For $52 a person it just wasn't worth it. I will never go back. read more

Hidden gem! What a fantastic dinner! Very quiet on a Thursday evening as most families were likely beachside watching the sunset. The service was amazing and our party of 7 thoroughly enjoyed everything. Highly recommend the Calamari Piccata. A group of 8 ladies were looking for a place to eat for Mother's Day. We found this on Open Table and made reservations. I was a little skittish with the 4 star reviews and the photos were kind of bland. We took a chance. The assorted bread was amazing. The dishes we ordered: the filet, the chicken, Steak and Cake, and Cavatappi Bolognese. We have not eaten a meal together that when the server came to pick up our plates-they were all clean-NOTHING left to eat. We agreed it was our best meal since we have been in the area. Was offered breakfast passes here after my king bed reservation at the Sheraton Sandkey Hotel was mixed up. I had the simple breakfast the first day with scrambled eggs and sausage and pancakes another day. Everything was delicious especially the sausage and pancakes. I've been to Rusty's twice now within 7 days. Each time I got the omelette with bacon, spinach, mushrooms and peppers. It was delicious. But my favorite thing to eat was the dollar pancakes. The dollar pancakes were light and fluffy. Probably the best pancakes I've ever had. My waiter said the secret ingredients to make it light and fluffy was LUV. Lol. I would def come back here for those delicious pancakes. Since I stayed in the hotel, it was pretty convenient to go down the elevator to get a table right away. The service was excellent. Stayed at the Sheraton and the front host was very welcoming to us and our 2 girls. Waiter was nice and responsive. Large area to distance tables and everyone was wearing masks properly. Manager seemed like he was coming down hard on the front host and making him defensive about some sort of miscommunication. It could have been done more to the side IMO. Food was okay. The Grouper was presented nice but was over cooked which was disappointing. However they did well with my girls and were very accommodating off their kids menu. The crab corn chowder was very sweet which was unexpected. Calamari is different in long strips (see pic). I liked it but my husband likes more traditional calamari. A little more detail on the menu could have helped in decisions. Overall they are doing their best to provide safe and good service but the food falls short so we did not go back the rest of our trip. read more

Rusty's is one of my favorite restaurants in Clearwater. I have eaten there many times. Our most recent visit was for a special birthday breakfast for a friend. The weekend buffet breakfast at Rusty's may be the best in the city. There are plenty of choices--but more importantly, the food is very high quality and kept fresh and hot. Rustys is inside the Sheraton Sand Key, which is a great hotel as well. Since it is a little off the beaten path, it is usually not too busy. Our favorites are the flattened calamari with the lemon caper butter sauce and the Caesar salad in a parmesean bowl. All dishes have amazing flavors. OMG. This place is amazing! I walked in with my wife and daughter and the wait staff just intuitively knew that we'd prefer to be seated away from the sparsely seated dinner crowd. Hidden really. After all we were only looking for desserts and cocktails. I really appreciated the defeated look on the waiter's face when we informed him that we'd already had dinner and that we were only looking for a nice little desert and drink. He then disappeared. I get it. We were dining out with a young child. Albeit a wellbehaved child with far superior manners than the waitstaff at Rustys- but a child nonetheless. I get it. We weren't getting the overpriced buffet option. That's right: buffet!! I get it. We weren't the goldmine Rusty was looking for to justify this overpriced hotel dining option. But we were paying customers. That is until we left the restaurant utterly unnoticed. So that's my story. In my book, it's one of those circumstances where I wish Yelp would let me give zero stars. read more

Five stars for Joshua, our waiter. Four stars for the food. I normally find that hotel restaurants suck ass, but the snapper with crab and risotto was deeeelicious. The Greek salad wasn't bad either. Perhaps instead of pure romaine lettuce they could have added some other greens as well (spinach?). At any rate, dinner was totally good and it was made exceptional because we arrived at 7 and wanted to make the 7:57 sunset. Fresh seafood and tasty pasta entrees (however, tagliatelle is NOT spaghetti And shouldn't Be ignored if unavailable). Scallop meal will leave you hungry. Grouper meal was very well prepared. The waiter was too friendly and decided to overcharge is on both occasions. When this was brought to the manager's attention that the $200 was about $50 inflated, he failed to rectify the intentional wrongdoing. The haughty assumption of what we would like to drink after 1 prior meal (before even approaching the table) and getting 3/4 guesses completely wrong was infuriating. So, my advice is to stay clear. There are many other more honest service workers in the area! Take out may be a better option. read more
