If you want to stay in a clean, somewhat down-at-the-heels motel that's reasonably priced, this is the place. The woman at the front desk was friendly and accommodating, and quietly chirped "Crap!" every time something surprised her (me showing up at the counter, a passing truck sounding its horn, etc.). The furniture is eclectic and well-worn. The photos on the wall explain the early days of the town. This is your basic, tidy, no-frills motel.

The inside of our room. We stayed one night. It was roomy, comfortable and clean. It was quite nice for the price.

This review compares this stay to other budget lodging. My experience was very good. Quality for the price was high. I would recommend this to friends looking for a budget hotel choice. I would definitely stay here again if i wanted or needed to stay in Prineville. The prices listed on the web site are very reasonable, similar to budget chain prices, and already include taxes (as of the date of this review). Although they have a fairly nice website, you do have to call to make a reservation , which is still common for small family run establishments. The room was clean, comfortable and roomy. It's been around for decades, and the style hasn't been updated, so it's authentically retro, which I found charming. The person in the office was kind and friendly.

A nice honest place to stay when you are in Prineville. Ask for the Rooster Cogburn Room!

I'll start with the positives. The staff was very friendly and helpful, which I appreciated. The…read morearea around the hotel is quiet--there are no major roads nearby--which made for a peaceful environment. The Wi-Fi was strong, and the LG television in the room looked new. As for the bed, the best I can say is that it wasn't uncomfortable. I stayed in the annex, the smaller building next to the main hotel. Unfortunately, there is no elevator. The carpets in the hallways were extremely dirty, and a musty smell hit me the moment I opened the door--just as it did inside the room. The walls throughout the hotel and in my room were covered in scuff marks and grime. The room itself felt dingy. There was a persistent, unpleasant odor that I couldn't quite place--maybe it was the drapes, the furniture, the walls, or all of the above. The floor didn't seem very clean either. The air conditioner was very loud, making it hard to relax. The coffee maker was old and hadn't been cleaned properly. It's a shame the property isn't better maintained. With a bit more pride in upkeep--regular cleaning and a basic facelift--this place could be much more inviting. As it stands, I don't feel the room was worth what I paid, and I won't be returning.

Found this looking for a site close to Smith Rock with showers on our van trip thru Oregon. Only 3…read morecamps here plus the host trailer but never saw them. Sites are all paved on a hill overlooking the lake. All have fire pits, picnic tables and a water pump nearby. One closer to the entrance could hookup to a hose. In between the loop of camps is a nice shaded grassy area. The bathrooms are coded, warm and clean with two hot water showers and a hand dryer by the sinks. The lake was very quiet no one on it but could be used for boating. It has a strong odor like urine that carries up to the camp. Probably not a swimming lake. The highway is very close so you do hear road traffic all night. It is not a secure campground and people come in late at night and leave early.

We then proceeded to call the county parks office to get a spot that wasn't taken, she gave us no other option than a spot right next to the bathroom and in between the walking paths. Then we were given an invalid code to the bathroom. The camp host shows up and doesn't even acknowledge us. We found out she was the chick laying right in front of us at spot 30 saying she doesn't know who the camp host is. Then 22:00 rolls around and our camp neighbors are a bunch of teenagers talking about guns and shooting from long distances (from home to their school) until 01:00 (why I didn't get up to ask them politely to be quiet since we have an early morning). The camp host didn't go around or even close the gate at 22:00 to make sure that everyone is following the camp quiet hours. I hope they never hire this camp host again. She is rude, obnoxious, and flat out doesn't do her job. This place is beautiful and I was hoping to enjoy it but I was asking too much by wanting a camp host that does their job.

I rarely leave reviews, but my experience at The High Desert Inn was so bad I feel obligated to…read morewarn others. From the moment I arrived, it was clear this place is not being properly maintained or managed. My room had broken fixtures and lamps, filthy walls, and bedding/drapes that were dark and dingy. The hallways were poorly lit and depressing. A bug even crawled across the bathroom floor. Noise was constant: a loud steakhouse next door, guests in the room beside me screaming and arguing the first night, and a dog left alone barking and howling for hours the next. I called the front desk and complained after 2 hours. The dog ended up tied to the back of a truck in the parking lot. The hotel claims to be pet-friendly, yet there was nowhere appropriate to walk a dog to go potty. The front desk clerk who checked me in looked about 12 years old--hardly reassuring when dealing with safety issues. Speaking of safety, the exterior doors to the building were not secure. One morning I walked out to my car and found a man crouched by the entrance smoking marijuana, so impaired I wasn't sure if he was even alive. Not exactly the feeling of comfort and security you want as a paying guest. This was my first visit to Prineville, and while the town itself is absolutely beautiful and welcoming, this hotel is an embarrassment sitting right in the middle of it. Until management completely overhauls this property, I cannot in good conscience recommend anyone stay here.
