While I've never been to Detroit I've now tried Detroit style pizza at five different local businesses. So, I can't tell you who makes the most authentic version, but I can tell you which one I like the most and how they are different. Today I visited Rustic Pizza and Eats (technically in Wilton but close enough to be considered Saratoga Springs). Coincidentally, I was last in this same building over twenty years ago while Mino Kawaguchi was serving sushi in his Japanese restaurant. While the sushi bar and hibachi table are gone not much else has changed. There are maybe a dozen tables, some of which can be slid together to accommodate larger families or groups. Upon entry you are greeted by a sign directing you to pick up menus, choose a table to sit at, and place your order at the counter. My sole purpose in coming here was to try their "Detroit Meets Rustic" pizza ($22; toppings +$3 each). The pizza meets the qualifications to be considered Detroit style by being rectangular, having crispy, caramelized cheese around the edges, a crispy bottom, and a thick tomato-based sauce. I can't say for sure if the sauce was applied in strips or if they used Wisconsin brick cheese, but the combined flavors of dough, sauce and cheese were very good. I opted to add sausage and roasted peppers. I didn't notice any fennel flavor in the sausage which is something I enjoy. The dough, especially in the center of the pizza, was not as light and airy as found in the Walt and Whitman's version of Detroit style. I wonder if an establishment that only makes Detroit style has an advantage of preparing all of their dough in a single style 24 to 48 hours in advance over the business that must be prepared to serve multiple styles of pizza. Or is it possible that a larger pizza is less likely to be light and airy in the center? Rustic's Detroit style is considerably larger than any of the local competitors' pizza. I can finish a whole Detroit pizza at Walt and Whitman or Korner Bar & Grille, or from Pizza by Plu; but I only made it through three of the eight slices at Rustic. My wife tried their Soft Pretzel Sticks ($9) served with a cheese sauce blend. She was pleased with the quality and flavor. I tasted a bite dipped in the cheese sauce and thought it was a decent starter, fresh and hot. Beverages are bottled water (Poland Spring [$2.50]), iced teas ($2.65), and various canned and bottled sodas. Service was friendly and prompt. Noise level can be high when almost all the tables are filled.

Undercooked cheese pizza, with the cheese just falling off.

Pizza was undercooked, leading to a rather sloppy mess. It lacked flavor and needed a lot of help with salt and pepper. The inside was nothing special and could look a little more cleaner. Had to wipe down our seats before we sat.

I cannot say enough how glad I am to have such a casual deliciously healthy eatery thats local. I never have to second guess whether the food will be good or good for me. I just know that they are using nothing but the best ingredients either from their farm or locally sourced. You cannot go wrong with whatever you choose here. Whether it be their soups, salads, all day breakfast items, brunch lunch dinner or to go. Their pagnotelle egg sandwich in my opinion always hits the spot. Egg, ham, cheese with roasted veg on a house made pagnotelle roll what can be better? Also available vegetarian if you desire. Stop in or grab something to go, you're sure to agree!

I love when local eateries are well-loved because they deserve it. 9 Miles East Farm certainly does! A lot of the folks who came in for dinner wanted to sit on the terrace to bask in the last couple of hours of sun, but being from Florida I get overdosed with that and sat inside. I'm glad I did, the playlist reminded me of a Sunday picnic without being either. However, the atmosphere felt like that, even indoors. The owner was super personable, and the server was just the right amount of attentive. I ordered the chicken piri piri, and it presented beautifully. I felt comforted by the food. The tender grilled chicken parted from the bone with a twist of my fork and the mashed sweet potato was a great partner to the savory, citrusy, and slightly spicy piri piri. Im not even a chicken thigh person, but this dish changed me. I actually felt tended to and taken care of by the food! Does that even make sense??? It did when I was eating because that's how I felt. And the crazy thing is, I've been here once before. I loved what I ate, but it didn't feel like this. It's been a rough couple of months, but after this meal and listening to the carefree, but intentional music, it lit up my mood and my spirit. This will definitely be one of my go-to's when I visit Saratoga Springs, and I highly recommend 9 Miles East Farm to anyone. I think that a lot of people feel like they're visiting a friend's place when they come here. I definitely did.

I ordered a ricotta roni I think I thought…read morethey ricotta was going to be mixed in with a tomato sauce but I'm glad that it was put in little logs on the pizza. I did like it a lot. It was very fresh. There was enough pepperoni and I liked the pepperoni. It had a good amount of mozzarella cheese and it was a fresh mozzarella cheese cuz this was the old style section of the menu. I also got a sausage and mushroom pizza I felt like there could have been more sausage and mushroom, and it could have been spread out evenly. That being said I did like it. It had regular mozzarella. I like their sauce. The crust was thin crust which I like and it had a good flavor. They put corn meal on the bottom of the pizza. There's a 20 to 30 minute drive time the pizza was warm when I got home it's been really cold out. I couldn't get it to reheat where the bottom of the crust was super crisp which makes me really just want to go there in person and get a Super Fresh Slice one day. I was despairing of finding a thin crust pizza that taste awesome since I moved but this was one of the best places I've gone to for pizza. My roommate gave it his seal of approval when he said it's not terrible. I've come to the conclusion he has no taste buds. It's a little more expensive than the pizza at the place I used to live at although it could be their prices went up I moved so I have no clue. Good great pizza is always worth the price. And there was enough for both of us and for leftovers and even more leftovers as I got two mediums. I didn't go inside so I don't know anything about what it looks like Ambience lies but I definitely recommend the pizza.

(If the 2 lovely ladies from Mama Mia see this; yes we had a rough start with my pizza not being started or whatever but shit happens; it wasn't your fault) this is the very best pizza we have had since moving here. I asked the server to bring another plate and started to explain why but she was on major caffeine or something and didn't inquire as to why I wanted the plate or why I moved my food. Anyway, the au jus was WAY too salty. Luckily once I took my beef, mashed potatoes and veg off the drowning plate, the food wasn't quite so salty and was pretty good. I think the extra salt helped for the leftovers because normally I need to add salt on leftover beef, but not this one. The veggies were cooked perfectly btw. My partner got the rigatoni (no meat) and it looked dry to me, but he liked it. The house wine was a caraffe for $18 and was ok tasting. Our server was too efficient. She was so fast and it was uncomfortable. She did not make any small talk she just rushed about and it did not feel like an old school Italian place in that regard. The people next to us got a giant NY pizza and it looked amazing. Would try that if we go again.

We were hungry, and a quick Yelp search led us here. It was a beautiful day so we elected to eat outside. The courtyard is an attractive space. A canopy of umbrellas dangle from above giving a whimsical yet effective cover from the sun. The menu is rather extensive and offers a nice variety. I ordered the Druthers Smash Burger and my wife ordered the Braised Short Rib French Dip. While we waited for the food our waitress brought out complimentary homemade potato chips along with a dill dipping sauce. The chips were light, crispy, and cooked to perfection. The dipping sauce was tasty. The burger and french dip were excellent. They have a nice variety of beers to choose from. I was curious about Uncurious. It is a New England style IPA and after trying it, I declared it the best beer in Saratoga Springs! My wife had D-light. And I honestly think it is the best light beer I've ever had! Service was friendly and professional. Turns out our waitress shares my wife's occupation (teacher). They had a nice conversation. She was super friendly. If you ever find yourself in Saratoga Springs I highly recommend Druthers Brewing.

The chicken tenders were super crisp! Loved them when eating at the shop. Once bringing home, they were not as crispy, so recommend eating there. Husband loved his chicken parm and said the chicken was amazing. Presentation of the salad was on point and they mentioned their salad dressings are Ken's, I can appreciate this, because Ken's is still family run with real ingredients. We ordered one cheese pizza, 4 chicken tenders, a chicken salad, chicken parm sub and 3 drinks and it came to roughly $70.00. Out of their menu, most people walking in were ordering subs the day we went and they also do catering as one person picked up a catering order. I agree with previous reviews that the pizza is greasy. It is cut St. Louis style, which pleasantly surprised me and set this place aside from the other pizza joints in town. It's definitely a variation of a deep dish with a medium sized crust, definitely not thin. I would probably give 4 stars if restrooms were available.

In fact, they come sliced in half and delivered in two boxes. I've honestly bought them and made three sizable meals out of a sugar large order. I'm partial to the meatball and chicken parm subs which I think are some of the best in the area along with Fat Paulie's and Cardona's Market. I'd give the subs 5 stars. The pizza is an entirely different story. It's too bready and greasy. The dough is thick, but bland. The bottom is crisp from the grease. The cheese slides right off. I've enjoyed pizza's from the grocery store more. Marino's pizza has it's fans, but it's not a style I enjoy. I'd give the pizza one star. Marino's has been around a long time and has its ardent supporters making it worth a try if you've in the area.
