    Herb roasted chicken.

This is 2nd time having dinner at this restaurant. It was an amazing meal again and the atmosphere is very relaxing inside. There is also a nice outdoor patio to eat on as well. I recommend this fine dining restaurant to anyone who wants a great meal.

My buttermilk chicken portion - huge and delish!!

My friend and I were in town for a weekend tradeshow. We found this place online and went for dinner the Friday night. (Drove from Edmonton) We were the first customers there and greeted warmly. The fireplace was lit and added to the cozy ambiance. Overwhelmed by the quality of the menu items (oh what do we choose!) we decided on sharing to start, the Bacon Wrapped Steak Ends and Lobster Dip and chips. Both were amazing! The chipotle and sweet honey bbq sauce should be sold by the jar because I would have left with a few. For our main dishes we had Buttermilk Fried Chicken and Braised Alberta Beef Short Ribs. Two very generous portions for both, and again we were in food heaven! After the appetizers we had decided that we need not eat anywhere else during our weekend visit. No dessert that night. The following evening, we went back for more! Appetizers this time were Coconut Shrimp and Rustic Poutine. Again 10 our of 10! That grand marnier sauce for the shrimp was out of this world. I got a bite of the rustic poutine, and was like no poutine I'd ever tasted before. We weren't too keen to share this time as they were soooo good. My friend took a bite and stopped me mid sentence as my talking was interrupting her food orgasm. Our mains were Spice Rubbed BC Salmon, cooked to perfection and matched with wonderful veg quinoa and avocado crema (again there needs to be jars of that stuff to take home) and my friend who isn't a pork fan ordered the Alberta Berkshire Pork Schnitzel... needless to say after that dish, she fell in love with the beast! All in all you can probably tell we both have nothing bad to say about this place. If you live in or near Medicine Hat, get your butts over there for a fab meal and forget about the chain restaurants. Places like this inspire the imagination and boost/support the local economy in so many ways! We both would consider the 6 hour drive JUST to eat at this restaurant again!

We were seated immediately in the lounge/bar area. Our meals came relatively quick being that the restaurant was busy. The food was exceptional. My husband got the daily special, prime rib and I got the chicken alfredo. The prime rib appeared to be cut rather thin but the flavor was there. The veggies and potatoes were a tad sparse. The chicken alfredo was tasty with a thick sauce. The chicken was sliced nicely but there really wasn't enough to complement the pasta. Our server was also tending the bar and was very attentive to our needs and those sitting around us but could have offered the check to us in a more speedy fashion and not stay at the table as we were paying on the electronic handheld device. All in all we enjoyed the meal and ambience. Highly recommend if you want a break from camp food.

The high-vaulted dining room is kind of awkward, like they didn't know what to do with the space, but it's nice enough. We started with the dry ribs, which were great (favourite part of the meal). I had the steak salad, which was tasty. We finished with the cheesecake. Overall, a serviceable and satisfying meal, that was a bit pricey (those tourism prices!) and won't be blowing any minds.

Been to Elkwater before and it's nice to have this gem in the middle of the flat and desolate prairies. Anyway, we've mostly run out of things to do within an hour driving distance (there's a baby in tow) and I was a bit reluctant to go back to Elkwater again. She mentioned Camp Cookhouse and how the chef there won some award or was on TV or something. I'm like, "Yeah, sure," and just shrug my shoulders. So we get there and the menu is simple but full of good things. I get the short ribs, she gets a burger, and her mom gets soup. I'm still not really impressed at this point but the service was very friendly. Well, I get my short ribs, take a bite, and immediately I'm sold! The taste was just so succulent, amazing, and perfect! I have so many other words to describe it! Not one bone present and they were just full of meat and saucy goodness. Friend's burger was also amazing and very well crafted. This was the type of food would be expect to find in a big city, not a rural lakeside restaurant. Seriously, everyone...make your way here and enjoy the food! You will not be disappointed at all. If you are, message me and I want to hear all about it :)

Had the burger and fries one night, burger buns are made in house, and it was very tasty. Ribs the next night, tasty, but I wish they removed the silver skin off the ribs before smoking. Portion sizes are good, pricing is fair, local beers and wines/Mead's to wash it all down. I like everything they are doing here, you can't complain about much when everything is locally sourced and made in house, far too many restaurants don't do this type of thing and it's a shame.

Not sure if I would think this way in more larger towns. It is really nothing to look at. It is not really decorated in any which way and it doesn't scream "Cookhouse". It more screams like my aunt's dining room. When we were there, there was one server and she was AMAZING but run off her feet. Really for the amount of people in the place (during COVID) it was full. She did an awesome job being upbeat, friendly and fast as she could be. We were sure to tip her well. It is a typical bar food menu. My kid and I not being bar food type chose the pad Thai - one with shrimp and one with chicken. My husband had the chicken bacon club and my little one had the kids grilled cheese. It was a while for the food to come, but it was expected because of how busy it was. Food came and it was really good. My kiddo and I were not expecting much for a bar but the pad Thai was really different than what we are used to but equally delicious. It had an amazing peanut sauce and the portion was huge. I couldn't eat it all. I really rate restaurants on how well they do a kids plate, and this one was great. The grilled cheese was on speciality bread and had two kinds of cheese on it. I sneaked a bite and it was delicious. My husband was happy with his sandwich. All in all a good meal.
