The service was top notch and the prices were completely reasonable. Definitely a 5 star experience.

So we left. Hubby went back and asked another hostess if we can come back later or wait. We were seated immediately in the lounge/bar area. Our meals came relatively quick being that the restaurant was busy. The food was exceptional. My husband got the daily special, prime rib and I got the chicken alfredo. The prime rib appeared to be cut rather thin but the flavor was there. The veggies and potatoes were a tad sparse. The chicken alfredo was tasty with a thick sauce. The chicken was sliced nicely but there really wasn't enough to complement the pasta. Our server was also tending the bar and was very attentive to our needs and those sitting around us but could have offered the check to us in a more speedy fashion and not stay at the table as we were paying on the electronic handheld device. All in all we enjoyed the meal and ambience. Highly recommend if you want a break from camp food.

Luckily my colleague is more adventurous than that so we decided to check out PanFlame after seeing it on Trip Advisor. I am SO glad we did. I definitely didn't expect to find excellent Indian food in Brooks. Upon arrival, we were quickly seated. There was only one other occupied table at the time but it looked like a steady stream of deliveries went out the door throughout the evening. There were tons of vegetarian and vegan options so it was tough for me to choose what to order but eventually I settled on a mango curry with garlic naan and rice. The portions were extremely generous. I had trouble finishing everything! I was really impressed with how flavourful my curry was. It was a great combination of sweet and spicy. I also loved how the naan was covered in fresh garlic. This is such a hidden gem and I would definitely recommend it to anyone passing through Brooks looking for something a little more interesting than chain food.

Been to Elkwater before and it's nice to have this gem in the middle of the flat and desolate prairies. Anyway, we've mostly run out of things to do within an hour driving distance (there's a baby in tow) and I was a bit reluctant to go back to Elkwater again. She mentioned Camp Cookhouse and how the chef there won some award or was on TV or something. I'm like, "Yeah, sure," and just shrug my shoulders. So we get there and the menu is simple but full of good things. I get the short ribs, she gets a burger, and her mom gets soup. I'm still not really impressed at this point but the service was very friendly. Well, I get my short ribs, take a bite, and immediately I'm sold! The taste was just so succulent, amazing, and perfect! I have so many other words to describe it! Not one bone present and they were just full of meat and saucy goodness. Friend's burger was also amazing and very well crafted. This was the type of food would be expect to find in a big city, not a rural lakeside restaurant. Not sure if I would think this way in more larger towns. It is really nothing to look at. It is not really decorated in any which way and it doesn't scream "Cookhouse". It more screams like my aunt's dining room. When we were there, there was one server and she was AMAZING but run off her feet. Really for the amount of people in the place (during COVID) it was full. She did an awesome job being upbeat, friendly and fast as she could be. We were sure to tip her well. It is a typical bar food menu. My kid and I not being bar food type chose the pad Thai - one with shrimp and one with chicken. My husband had the chicken bacon club and my little one had the kids grilled cheese. It was a while for the food to come, but it was expected because of how busy it was. Food came and it was really good. My kiddo and I were not expecting much for a bar but the pad Thai was really different than what we are used to but equally delicious. It had an amazing peanut sauce and the portion was huge. I couldn't eat it all. I really rate restaurants on how well they do a kids plate, and this one was great. The grilled cheese was on speciality bread and had two kinds of cheese on it. I sneaked a bite and it was delicious. My husband was happy with his sandwich. All in all a good meal.
