The mussels are incredible, as is the Sea Bass entree! Loved the atmosphere and wine list. Highly recommend!

The car GPS took us behind the building and we had to walk around. We had a huge lunch so we weren't too hungry by the time our reservation came but we had amazing appetizers and some of the best drinks of our Scotland trip. The servers were great even though we didn't end up wanting main courses and just kept ordering drinks.

Service was good. We had a server who had just graduated from the University of St. Andrews. She was friendly and welcoming which was a nice change having just spent 2 nights in Edinburg. The wine list was not very impressive and my date ended up ordering a bottle of wine that resembled Capri-sun. I couldn't even drink it. We started with the oyster pair (HUGE oysters, very creamy), deer tartare - couldn't get through one bite of it and Pig's Head on Toast. Appetizers were not a good sign for the rest of the dinner. However the tomahawk steak was pretty good, lobster was overcooked. Soufflé was pretty good. Would give it a higher rating if not for the food. I think you really come here for the views, the putting green overlooking the 18th on the balcony, some gorgeous views vs. the food.

Greyfriars Hotel - Inoperable Safe

Greyfriars Inn 5/27…read more We checked in a bit early when our train arrived. Matt, the manager on duty, was lovely and offered to store our bags and asked us to check back at 1pm to see if our room was ready. We got checked in around 1:30 for a family room with 2 twins and a king. The safe which was located on the floor in the closet area was in the locked position so Matt and a member of housekeeping came up to open it with their master key. They were able to open the safe door but unable to remove the key from the safe or reprogram the safe. This rendered the safe unusable for our stay. Matt offered to store our valuables in the office safe which was accessible to staff members but we were not comfortable with that arrangement and opted out of that solution. After we had dinner we were able to remove the key on the non operational safe and returned it to the manager on duty at the bar/reception area. Shortly afterwards this member of the management team knocked aggressively on our door and demanded that we pack up and leave the premises or apologize for saying the safe was useless. She aggressively and loudly berated us for being rude by stating the safe was useless. After this inhospitable treatment by management team member we decide to seek alternative accommodations elsewhere despite having prepaid £210 for the room. There is no excuse for this behavior in a hospitality environment - especially from a member of the management team. This employee needs conflict management training or a different career path. The General Manager then lied in her response to my negative review on Google and declared that my sister was rude, abusive and swore at her staff. No swear words were used and her voice was not raised (in stark contrast to the manner the hotel manager was loudly berating us) The Oxford dictionary definition of the word "useless" does not describe it as a swear word: adjective: 1. not fulfilling or not expected to achieve the intended purpose or desired outcome.

The only staff member that has helped us is Ashlee the front desk, girl. When I first called about my son who got a bug bite and it was swelling up really bad and we needed help. The concierge told me that there was no one here to help us and that we could attempt to take him to the emergency room but because we were from out of the country, they probably wouldn't see us. I am so glad I called back and got Ashlee the front desk girl because she is actually a nurse. She came to our room, examined the bites, cleaned them and then wrapped them and sent us to the emergency room where we were completely taken care of without any charge! I do not know why the concierge would have not helped us and gave us more to worry about when we were already stressed out. We also received a $250 smoking charge letter because the housekeeping saw My Husband's cigars and smoking stuff out when he was leaving to go play golf he got his stuff out to take his cigars with him. I took my two year-old son for breakfast and came back to only my bed being made in my room and with a letter under my door stating that we had smoked in our room and we were being charged $250. I called the front desk, asked to speak to a manager and was told that they would call me right back. I had to call three times and wait for two hours before anyone even called me. I am now in my room, waiting for the management to contact housekeeping to see if the charge will be reversed. I find this extremely frustrating, considering how much money we have paid to stay here. I also feel that the rooms are outdated and rundown compared to all the other Fairmont I have stayed in.!

When I brought this issue to the staffs attention, they didn't even offer me anything. Other than that though, the staff was nice. Moldy water just isn't something you should receive at a 5 star hotel... The breakfast selection was abundant and delicious and the facilities were alright. Overall would recommend, but next time I would definitely look at the other options nearby.

I was expecting it to just be a bar with crappy nibbles so as to make sure those imbibing didn't get completely PISSED DRUNK... But I was mistaken, for there is a restaurant upstairs, and the grub offered there can also be served to bar patrons. SCORE because I was HUNGRY! I got the chicken salad, doctored but of course... And as you can see from my photo, it was a pleasantly simple, yet fresh salad... And SUPER TASTY! The chicken was VERY well done and I loved the lettuce boats because I used them as vehicles for the chicken. The bell pepper addition to the salad was also spot on as they were incredibly sweet and juicy! Fiancé got a CLUB SANDWICH and I almost broke my water glass from shock, when I heard him say multiple times to our server: THIS IS THE BEST CLUB SANDWICH I HAVE EVER HAD. Say what?! AND he only had a 1/2 a beer at that point so the BOOZE wasn't doing the talking! Ha Ha. The club sandwich was a double decker, one layer of chicken and cheese and the other filled with lettuce, tomato, mayo and bacon... And then of course, it came with French Fries, which he also wolfed down without even blinking. We left this place fueled enough to play another 18-holes, except I KNEW that wasn't going to happen when Fiancé almost fell face first onto the pavement when exiting the restaurant... I mean, when at a Scottish bar, right?

Was much more chill than the Dunvegan- I would recommend '1 Golf Way' way before the dun - plus the service was better
