Checking in at the hotel late at night we wore happy to have some food at the hotels restaurant. We…read moreall ordered the salmon. We were starving so the tummy was very pleased. Then we had dessert. Me and two in my company got their "hot chocolate with whipped cream". A cute idea, putting ice cream and whipped cream in a cup and then on the side you've got a little cup to poor meted chocolate over it. I would have preferred a smaller serving. The other one in the company had "etton mess" like meringue with strawberry coulis. - The waitresses was nice and friendly. - The restaurant itself could get a lift up. Pretty boring setup not cozy. - A little overpriced I would say

Easy to find just a short walk from Carnoustie station, we were given a lovely welcome at the desk. Our room was clean and nicely sized - no pokey chain-hotel boxes here. The afternoon tea I wouldn't bother with again. We couldn't swap the husband's hot drink for a fruit juice/cola because "the kitchen is separate to us" and the scones were a bit dry. The spa facilities on the other hand are what made this a relaxing break. A decent sized pool (and warm too!), spa tub and a sauna - we spent plenty of time using these facilities and not so much in the gym. A well located hotel for relaxing - right by the beach for long walks, skip the restaurant and get something from the local chippy.

The car GPS took us behind the building and we had to walk around. We had a huge lunch so we weren't too hungry by the time our reservation came but we had amazing appetizers and some of the best drinks of our Scotland trip. The servers were great even though we didn't end up wanting main courses and just kept ordering drinks.

Service was good. We had a server who had just graduated from the University of St. Andrews. She was friendly and welcoming which was a nice change having just spent 2 nights in Edinburg. The wine list was not very impressive and my date ended up ordering a bottle of wine that resembled Capri-sun. I couldn't even drink it. We started with the oyster pair (HUGE oysters, very creamy), deer tartare - couldn't get through one bite of it and Pig's Head on Toast. Appetizers were not a good sign for the rest of the dinner. However the tomahawk steak was pretty good, lobster was overcooked. Soufflé was pretty good. Would give it a higher rating if not for the food. I think you really come here for the views, the putting green overlooking the 18th on the balcony, some gorgeous views vs. the food.
